  1. So what does a guy do when he gets DFA'd? Is Kirk just sitting at home on his couch watching TV for a week?
  2. Small sample for Brinson but they've both kinda stunk in MLB this year. In this case I guess I'd go with Broxton and keep Brinson in AAA to not burn service time and keep him actually playing.
  3. Provided we're not giving up much, I see little downside to acquiring him. He's not blocking anyone this year or next unless you think Villar is actually last year's Villar and not the rest of his career Villar.
  4. Rock was talking about this during a game a couple weeks ago. The Brewers won't give it out because of Gantner. This organization really needs to get over 1982.
  5. Give away free tickets to random people and expect those people not to sell them for hundreds of dollars in profit? If you do it the day of the game they aren't likely to sell to Cubs fans.
  6. Never gonna happen but the Brewers players could buy up tickets and give them away in Milwaukee during the day before the game. Ryan Braun always could use some more good will.
  7. In the grand scheme of things he really didn't do anything to warrant it, but I have really enjoyed his fall of a cliff over the last year.
  8. I was pretty much against Kinsler until I saw those numbers for 2B above. And I'm assuming those include the 2.000+ OPS Sogard had for a couple weeks. Villar is beyond lost and Sogard is back to who is really is. Getting Ian would be like if we would have replaced Yuni with Tulo. That being said, the bullpen is still trash and the ultimate anchor weighing this team down.
  9. He's on the 40 man today and we're mostly assuming Kirk is gone tomorrow, right?
  10. If you want to determine who's at fault you need to look at the runs scored and runs allowed in extras versus the league average. I have no idea what those numbers are nor how exactly the Brewers would compare to them.
  11. True in theory. You just need to score more runs than the other team to win. Doesn't matter if you win 10-8 or 2-1. A win is a win.
  12. Thank god Wily's gone. He's toast. Anything he put near the plate on Thursday was hit hard, everything else wasn't even close to the plate. If the guy hasn't learned how to throw strikes by now he never will. Some may say maybe this will motivate him but if getting demoted last year and pitching beyond atrocious this year hasn't motivated him nothing will.
  13. The commercial is so full of historical anachronisms it's not even funny. The flashback makes it feel like the 50's with the music, car, and extras. But the woman is pretty clearly dressed like a punk from the 70's.
  14. This has been a trend around baseball all year. Everyone throws 95+ now. And any major league hitter can catch up to now. A big fastball just isn't as big of a deal as it was before so teams are having their pitchers throw more breaking balls and generally to greater success. Certainly it has to be part of the reason Suter has been so successful so far. Hitters just don't see fastballs as slow as his and it takes a while for them to get it timed.
  15. I doubt he would say anything else. He wants his fans to feel good about trading their best pitcher.
  16. It's also insanity to bring up guys who aren't ready. The names I keep seeing have not been doing well recently (Lopez, Burnes, Woodruff) And in the case of Woodruff, he's just coming back from injury. With that said, If they want to DFA Blazek and Peralta, bring up Wang and Wilkerson (or Jungmann) I'm ok with that. I also have no interest in seeing any more of Scahill or Espino. If the concern is guys aren't ready, they have plenty of retreads in AAA to give a shot - Cravy, Dillard, Goforth, Jeanmar Gomez, Jungmann, Wilhelmsen. I have no idea how any of those guys are doing but if they feel the young guys aren't ready there are plenty of options it would be easy to give a few games and then dump without batting an eye.
  17. He started the year as a reliever and once he was moved to the rotation he threw 60 pitches his first two starts and then was 80-100 every one after. Had he not totally sucked he was good for 60-80 pitches easily yesterday and should have gotten us at least 5 innings.
  18. Still plenty of time to get rid of him today but come game time if he's still around, you're right. It's ridiculous. Even if he wasn't terrible he still wouldn't be available for a couple days and the bullpen would be short 2 pitchers with him and Blazek unavailable.
  19. If Brinson is traded then Phillips, Broxton, or Perez would be better options than giving up something for Granderson.
  20. Bad as this game was, gotta say, this bit of comedy was solid gold. Well played. Not a big Blazek fan but you really do have to give him a mulligan here. In what world are you expecting a guy who hasn't' started in what ? 3 years to go 3+ innings against one of the top 5 offenses in baseball. He was totally set up for failure here. He's been starting in AAA. Thrown 80+ pitches almost every start.
  21. Um, what? You seriously think putting a value on an OF arm is silly? There's a ton of value in not letting every single base runner go 1st to 3rd on every single to left, and not letting every single base runner score from 2nd on a single to left. With Davis there are no variables, every single guy just goes. It without question should be factored into WAR as that significantly affects games. No, my problem is trying to equate it to wins.
  22. Any pitch Peralta threw near the zone was pounded. His 2 strikeouts were gifts by guys swinging from their shoes at everything. There is no way he should be on this team anymore. Even if we were in last place he has no business pitching in the majors anymore. If he's still on the roster come tomorrow night, you've got to question what the heck management is thinking.
  23. When we start attaching "wins" to OF arms, you lose me. It's such a situational thing. To try and put a value on it is almost silly. And to use things like preventing runners from advancing bases even more so because there are so many more variables involved. I'd rather look at things that are easily measurable like velocity and release time.
  24. It's not even about protecting or babying or whatever you want to call it. Continuing to run the same guys out there who continue to fail while Hader gets a couple batters twice a week is just stupid.
