  1. I'm not bringing this up as an "I told you so" or anything but boy this guy sure turned out to be nothing at all. 6.71 ERA, 1.796 WHIP, 6.9 BB/9, 8.9 K/9, .761 OPSA in AAA
  2. That's certainly going a little far. What "can't miss" prospects have there been since Braun and Fielder?
  3. I would say Hart is a lock to start at first next year so whatever they are "trying" with Juan is pretty much pointless. He gets a lot of hate but his bat provides value and as long as he doesn't have to put on a glove he should be on the bench next year. His career HR rate (23.8 pa/hr) is pretty darn close to Hart (24.7) and Aramis (22.4).
  4. Are there any confirmed reports of Arizona actually specifically saying don't go in the pool? Everything I read just says that they asked the Dodgers not to return to the field. I can't imagine that they would have said that since no one has done it before unless some Dodgers had talked about doing it prior.
  5. I feel optimistic about next year too. Ramirez has shown that the knee injury really was a big deal and now that he's healthy he's back to his raking self. I'm no fan of Scooter but there is no way he could do worse than Rickie did this year. First base will be an improvement just because there is no possible way it could get worse. A full season (hopefully) of Braun with a potential breakout year for Davis and the offense should be great. Gallardo looks more like his old self since he came off the DL. Wily has been fantastic after a rough first couple of months. Thornburg could very well be a solid 4 or 5. I hated the Lohse signing and was expecting him to bomb but he has been very good this year. Estrada gets very little love around here but he is a legitimate major league starter. I would say the only thing the team lacks is a real top of the line starting pitcher. I look at all that and feel very optimistic. Then I remember this was more or less the feeling at this point last year too. Everyone said that all we needed to do was revamp the bullpen. Well that happened at least but everything else failed. I think the 2014 team will have a better record than the 2013 team but they still are the 3rd or 4th best team in the division and will need everyone else to have some bad luck to jump ahead.
  6. At first I thought this is no big deal and the media just trying to find a story but I've changed my stance on it. If the D-Backs did this in their own park that would be one thing but because they celebrated with the "icon" of an opposing team's park that seems wrong to me. How would Brewer fans feel if the Cardinals celebrated winning the division by going down Bernie's slide? What about Yankees fans if the Red Sox celebrated in Legend's Park? Should the D-Back be upset about this? Yes. Are they overreacting? Yes to that too.
  7. I'm getting sick of seeing the "butt slide". Not because of it's constant replaying but because it's a great example of how replay is going to change the game next year. The runner was quite obviously safe from the replay. He was called out because the ball beat him and the ump was in a horrible spot to see it. There are going to be (or should be) a lot of tag plays reversed next year where the runner was called out because the ball beat him but he actually avoided the tag.
  8. Since getting healthy and coming off the DL this is A-Ram's line: .287/.386/.519/.904 This is his line from last year: .300/.360/.540/.901 And this is his career: .285/.345/.501/.846 Unless he hurts his knee again, I'm not too worried about a drop off next season. He might bring something nice back in a trade but I don' t think it will be nice enough to pull the trigger.
  9. I'm not sure how that helps anyone to trade a poor fielding, washed up hitting, overpaid second basemen for another one. Weeks is at least athletic and could probably learn third or the outfield.
  10. Because we are Brewerfan.net. We are always looking to trade a marginal player for someone else's top prospect.
  11. Not every team can be bad during day games because someone has to win. But ya, this team has been pretty bad recently during the day and I think we all remember Nedly trotting out the B-squad every afternoon.
  12. There's no angst for getting rid of Lalli. It's for bringing in a pitcher who has shown nothing in his career so far to take a 40 man spot.
  13. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/224481981.html And when you consider how the game ended you have to wonder what Fairchild was up to yesterday.
  14. Recent Brewers manager seem to think that day games mean automatic off days for your starters. Today not so much.
  15. I'm sure he throws hard which seems to be a prerequisite to be given a chance to pitch. Nevermind that he can't seem to find the strikezone very often.
  16. There's this guy on the roster named Jeff Bianchi who can play all over and hits right handed.
  17. Khris never being a top prospect should be completely irrelevant. He is the same player he has been throughout his entire time in the minors. He has done nothing but mash with big power, decent speed, and not a very strong arm. If he was drafted by the Rangers, he would have been a top 70-80 guy easily. It is relevant though. Teams will give up something worthwhile for a guy who was a top prospect after little to no major league experience but not for a guy like Davis. I can't see any team offering up something that would be better than keeping him.
  18. I can't see a guy who was never a top prospect bring back much of anything in return after putting up good numbers for only 1/4 of a season.
  19. Just like the Brewers their future will depend on the rotation which could come crashing back to earth next year or sooner. -AJ Burnett is 36 and talking retirement. -Is the real Jeff Locke the first half pitcher (.202 BAA, 2.15 ERA, 1.128 WHIP) or the second half pitcher (.305 BAA, 5.43 ERA, 1.811 WHIP). - Liriano is only signed for next year and has shown that for as good as he can be, he can be even worse at times. Plus he's already had one TJ. -Wandy Rodriguez is 34 (maybe) and will probably not have his $13M option picked up. Gerrit Cole has looked solid and Charlie Morton may have finally figured out how to pitch. They have Jameson Taillon who will probably be in the majors at some point next season but the rest of their young pitchers are in the low minors. They are very much like the 2008 Brewers in that after this season their rotation will be pretty bare with little to replace the guys that are leaving.
  20. Other than having a nice stadium for their players to play in how would the Brewers benefit from this? Do they get a cut of he revenue from minor league teams?
  21. Hopefully this will give more credence to the theory that myself, and lots of other people have held, the MLB changing the ball had more to do with the homerun increase than steroids did.
  22. If that were to happen the fallout from this board alone would melt the entire Internet. The Brewers need to have a coaching staff that includes Roenicke, Macha, Yost, Lopes, and Royster. And then get Svuem to sell peanuts in the crowd.
  23. I actually believe this to be true. I think Ned was the right guy to bring our "young guns" along and change the losing culture around the team, but only to a certain degree. The team finally got to where it needed less nurturing and needed more solid managing; and that, he couldn't provide. He appears to have done the same in KC. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get yet another gig with a struggling franchise that has a lot of young talent. Like Milwaukee? (kinda,, sorta, blueish)
  24. You said before that you wanted Roenicke to look like he gives a crap. Maybe he decided to do that by using one of his most reliable relievers in a close game against a pennant contending team instead of throwing a tantrum over a call that the umpires got right and that wasn't likely to make a difference anyway because the runner was likely to score eventually even if he was sent back to third with nobody out. Kintzler threw 30 pitches the night before, and he didn't look that going doing it, and he's had multiple injuries in his career. He should not have been used last night unless the game went many extra innings. That was just stupid. As for the call, the umps may have gotten it right or wrong the TV replays were very inconclusive but none the other umps could have had a better view than the guy who was supposed to be looking at it. For them to have over turned that play was wrong. Ya, the runner would have scored eventually but that's irrelevant, there was no reason to reverse that call and Ron should have put up an argument instead of bending over for the Cardinals.
