  1. It will be interesting to see the media reaction if there is any truth to Pujols juicing. Will he get the same treatment Braun and A-Rod got or will it be non-issue?
  2. It has nothing to do with McCann being a racist or anything. He's talking about culture. Watch the WBC. The Latin American countries play the game with flair and passion and their fans are partying, dancing, and singing in the stands. The American players on the other hand play stoic, emotionless baseball and the fans golf clap at homeruns. I can see how guys who have played in America their whole life would be offended by someone (gasp!) having fun and showing it while they play.
  3. The writing was on the wall when the GM said he wasn't going to be fired after they lost.
  4. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/10/brewers-waive-mat-gamel-taylor-green.html This doesn't make any sense. I would guess they are hoping they will clear and they can be taken off the40 man roster. I think it's possible for Green but probably not for Gamel.
  5. Someone with a high OBP. It really doesn't matter. There is no such thing as a "lead off hitter."
  6. Votto's best skill is his eye, which generally gets better as a player ages and doesn't drop off as much as the bat. When I was looking at his stats I was surprised to see how low his slugging is for a first basemen that plays in that ballpark. His OPS is almost entirely OBP supported and probably won't be effected by age as much as most other players' are.
  7. I would hope so. However, I would not be surprised if Weeks is the starter next year because of some stupid reason like "veteran-ness" or "had a good spring." I would guess Ron and Doug both see it as Rickie's spot to lose.
  8. A "leadoff hitter" is only in the eye of the manager. Put any guy with a high OBP in the 1 spot and you got a leadoff hitter.
  9. What about the very first play of the game? Jennings was called out at second. Replay showed he was safe but he was called out because "the ball beat him to the bag" and the ump was in a bad position to see it. I would guess 25-30% of all tag plays are gotten wrong because the ump is in a bad spot or the ball beat the runner to the bag but he avoided the tag.
  10. Which Segura is he going to get paid as? The pre-break .849 OPS Jean or the post break .583 Segura?
  11. From everything I'm reading it seems like he was hired more or less because you need to have a manager, not because they wanted him. Not that it was a knock on him but just that management didn't hire him with the intent of him sticking around very long.
  12. Votto doesn't drive in many guys (for a superstar hitter) because he walks so much. I'm a firm believer in OBP as much as the next guy (Votto's led the NL the last 4 years in that category) and, while walking isn't a bad thing (he led the NL in walks last year despite playing only 111 games), he can do so much damage when he swings the bat that you'd think in some situations it's be better for the team if he swings.
  13. I think it's sucky because Mark is probably going to tell Doug to sign another free agent this off season like Lohse that will cause the team to lose another 1st round pick.
  14. Some people just need to accept that Estrada is a serviceable Major League starter. Here is how Marco's 300+ career innings as a starter stack up against Gallardo's career. Gallardo in parenthesis. ERA 3.94 (3.72) WHIP 1.12 (1.31) BAA .241 (.245) OPS .697 (.700) K/9 8.6 (8.9) BB/9 2.01 (3.46) They are pretty similar pitchers. However, one of them people think is a top of the rotation starter and the other people seem to always want out of the rotation.
  15. Vomit. Dale Svuem will probably be available and they stick with this crap.
  16. And then explain to me why a 2 hole hitter is getting paid 200 million? Doesn't make sense. Players who are paid highly are generally really good at what they do. Giving the 2nd most plate appearances to a really good player makes sense, doesn't it?
  17. Since coming off the DL he has a .915 OPS. I don't think the knee was a problem anymore.
  18. I don't see anything about Ramirez getting suspended. Reed Johnson did though.
  19. I've spent the entire day scrutinizing the video. Gross over statement but I've watched both the Brewers and Braves telecast of it and here are my thoughts. - McCann should have been tossed and should get whatever penalties Gomez gets. - Gomez should have decked McCann. He clearly is only a bully based on his previous actions with Jose Fernandez with all his huffing and puffing and yelling. - Any reason why Betancourt immediately went after Andrelton Simmons and proceeded to hug him all over the field? That was weird. - If Freeman wouldn't have elbowed Ramirez in the face he may have taken McCann out. The Atlanta telecast had a good angle of him going right after McCann until the elbow and then he continuously tried to get after him but there were too many people in the way. - Reed Johnson is a prick. He did the same thing in the brawl with the Marlins. He jumped in, got a few punches in, and then weaseled out. Didn't get tossed from either game. - I really wish Nyjer was on the team last night. It would have been classic. - I really wish Prince was on the team last night. He hopefully would have treated McCann like he was Manny Para. - Things might not have gotten out of hand if Freeman didn't say anything. After he started trotting Gomez yelled a little at Maholm and then put his head down and started running until Freeman started barking at him. - I'm really surprised that Ron stood up for Carlos at all in his interview. He still needs to be fired though. - There are two things in my life I have always wanted from a baseball game: a foul ball and a brawl. I got my foul ball earlier this year in Nashville and now I've seen a brawl. I think I might retire as a fan.
  20. This is the 2nd time McCann has done that this season. If that isn't bad enough this is the 2nd time this season that Reed Johnson has ran into a fight from the bench, caused a raucous, ran out, and not gotten tossed from the game. MLB Network did a real nice breakdown of the history between Gomez and Maholm last night. Gomez has owned him his whole career so the last couple times they've faced each other Maholm has just hit him. When Carlos came to the plate McCann was already jawing with him. There has to be something going on between Gomez and the Braves. I will say that I am very surprised that Ron actually somewhat, kind of, sort of defended Gomez last night.
  21. At this point whatever. Didn't Ron say he would use Gomez at short last year when they were thin? That could be entertaining.
  22. Yeah, what's up with that? They're one of the best teams in baseball... Why isn't anyone there right now? No matter how good the Braves are the Atlanta fans just don't show up. The heat maybe? I don't know.
  23. If it's not Thornburg who will it be? Some overpriced washed up veteran? Hellweg who has shown himself to be a disaster so far? Nelson who has pitched well but in so little innings it's pretty much meaningless? Tyler will be like Fiers was this year: based on the previous season's results you have to put him in the rotation until he fails.
  24. Didn't Phillips hit second for a good chunk of the year too?
  25. I missed the "aren't". I read it as "are".
