  1. Martin is on the team for his defense, unless there is someone out there as good or better than he is defensively it would be pointless to bring in someone else. Also I don't think you can discount the success Peralta had once Maldonado starting catching him exclusively. However, if the team is doing something as stupid as trying to play Lucroy at first more, then they would need to bring in a catcher that could hit.
  2. End of thread. Someone send this to ESPN and every baseball writer.
  3. Where do you get 10-15 wins? Please break it down. I think you are overvaluing the contributions of any one player. I don't know about 10-15 wins but he's not talking about losing 1 player. He's talking about losing 3 and probably your 3 best hitters.
  4. When I saw he was DFA'd the first thought I had was that Doug should get on him. I'm not sure how capable he is of playing the OF but he has played a lot there. There really isn't a need right now but the versatility can't hurt.
  5. Hopefully this doesn't cause the thread to get too off topic but why, if the union wants to rid the game of PED's so badly, doesn't it allow teams to terminate the contracts of players who test positive without penalty? I would imagine guys like Braun aren't going to be released for testing positive but guys like Peralta certainly would be. It takes risk away from the team and puts an even bigger punishment on the player.
  6. May 9-11, 2014 Yankees at Miller Park. The Crew aint done with him yet.
  7. It's obnoxious for people like me who are going to set it off every time and then have to explain their medical devices to security.
  8. The stupidity in these deals isn't the money it's the fact that they are giving long term contracts to old players.
  9. If he stays healthy and performs this is a great deal. If he doesn't, which is very likely, it's a waste of $8M.
  10. Burnett has said he will play for Pittsburgh or retire. So you don't have to worry about that.
  11. I think people are really under valuing Tim Hudson. Yes, the ankle injury brings some uncertainty and his age is a risk but he has been very reliable since coming back from Tommy John. He's made 34, 33, 28, and 21(ankle injury) starts since 2010. He's has an ERA+ of 138, 119, 110, and 97 in those years and last year's would have been better had he not had a disastrous May. The money may be a little bit too much and 2 years is surprising but this is not a ridiculous contract.
  12. They are in a really tricky spot. It's not like the team is all old veterans. They have 3 very good young players at hard to find positions in Segura, Gomez, and Lucroy. Do you trade those players and risk getting back players who don't pan out? If you blow it up do you hold on to Peralta, Thornburg, Davis, and Gennett who will be entering their prime and getting expensive when the window to compete opens up again or risk trading them for players with equal or better ceilings? What about Braun? Do you trade him and get back no where near his value or do you tell him to be a good soldier and keep him through the losing? The Brewers are in that horrible position of not lacking talent but not having enough talent to compete.
  13. What? Why is anyone going to be digging up something that happened almost a full year ago. It's not even like it's going to be his first game since it happened. As long as Gallardo is on the team, healthy, and someone better isn't acquired he will be starting on opening day. It's pretty ridiculous to think otherwise.
  14. Thanks. I'll have to look into that. I can't remember what the brand is off hand or I would google it.
  15. HD TV for sports = Awesome! HD TV for shows = yuck I got a 55 inch tv about a month ago. It's great for watching sports but I think that most everything else looks horrible. Not the quality but such clarity makes everything look like it was filmed by some high school kids in their parents basement. My mom has said the same thing after watch her TV for a while.
  16. I love deadliest catch. It used to be 100% reality (I feel) but I think after Phil's death they've tried to insert story lines to make it interesting. Just watching these guys do their job was interesting enough though.
  17. This signing has nothing to do with steroids or big market money power. It's just a stupid GM adding to his many already stupid mistakes.
  18. That's what "reality" TV is. I don't get it either. A lot of the boys at the high school I work at love it. I guess it's better than them watching Jersey Shore or any of that other reality trash.
  19. Segura may play every day but when a starting pitcher is playing they have far more control over a game's outcome than a position player. First half Segura every day or second half Segura? There are still lots of question marks about what kind of player Jean really is.
  20. Jimenez had a pretty darn good year last year. He had a 3.30 ERA on the year which is pretty good considering he had a 7.13 ERA in April and March. I don't think he'll get 14M a year but he should get at least 36/3. Plus he won't turn 30 until January.
  21. Did Doug Melvin find his player who will inexplicably make the 25 man roster and get way too much playing time already? Herrera might be too young for that role.
  22. George Steinbrenner spent a lot of money and won a lot of championships. Tony LaRussa is a drunk, probably played a part in the explosion of steroids in baseball, and risked the lives and careers of many players with his beanball wars. I don't see how Steinbrenner getting in the Hall of Fame is such a travesty but LaRussa belongs. Steinbrenner exploited his massive revenue advantage over virtually every other team in the game. More than any one man, he prevented baseball from matching the appeal of the NFL, where market size is merely incidental to team success, by nixing revenue sharing for local tv and radio rights. In doing so, what he really accomplished was to render less meaningful each championship he won compared to had they been won on an equal playing field. What George Halas and Wellington Mara were to the NFL, that is pioneers who forsook short term financial gain for the overall good of the league and its product, Steinbrenner was the polar opposite in baseball. Halas and Mara are rightfully in the NFL Hall of Fame. Steinbrenner doesn't deserve the same fate. I hate how George did things as much as any other Yankee-hater but he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. He bought a crap franchise and turned it into a dynasty. Preventing MLB from growing as big as the NFL? No. You can blame the ADD, blood thirsty American public for that.
  23. Except when he did last year...in 2013.

  25. If Shelby Miller played for anyone other than the Cardinals, then probably yes. Knowing the Cardinals though, Miller would probably pull a Rick Allen and Segura would turn into Tulowitzky.
