  1. With likely matchups of Marcum vs Jackson, Wolf vs Lohse, and Gallardo vs Westbrook, AND factoring in the way the Brewers have been hitting (7.5 runs per game in August), I don't see any reason why we can't get a sweep. I'd settle for a series win. Anything less would be disappointing.
  2. Lyles was the 42nd ranked prospect by baseball america this year and number 1 in the Astros organization. Not on the same level as Sheets but still pretty good.
  3. Pretty sure I just saw an Astros fan behind the Brewer dugout throwin up the T as Morgan scored and walked into the dugout
  4. You put that unlucky comment in blue as if a joke, but Grienke has a 2.88 era in the month of July with 35 strikeouts in 25 innings over 4 starts, more than hinting the stat heads were right when they predicted Grienke's bad start was largely attributable to bad luck. And last start he gave up 2 runs in 7 innings. I'll take that from any starter in MLB any night of the week.
  5. Yeah it was hit in the corner, RF Baker fumbled around for a while, then threw home. It could've just as well been a double with an error or a double with a fielders choice. Not a legit triple. It was a great hit though, nice line drive down the line, so it's not to take credit from Casey for the clutch two out RBI hit.
  6. Yeah I don't really get the Cobain Bigger in death reference. Maybe it has to do with the time I grew up but as I remember it smells like teen spirit has been the biggest rock and roll hit of my lifetime; nirvana completely changed the face of mainstream rock music at the time, and they were selling millions and millions of records with Nevermind and in utero. All of this happened before Cobain died.
  7. Hopefully the Brewers can score in the 8th, but if not I think David Hernandez is due for a bad outing. Since he took over the closer role he has been lights out, but he's not really that great of a pitcher. So that's my prediction for the night. And great game Grienke. ERA now under 5.
  8. Are there other options besides Dillard? I appreciate Dillard's hard work and perseverance getting here, and his efforts switching to sidearm etc. But when I watched him pitch for the Brewers he did not look like a major league caliber pitcher to me. I guess every team needs a mop up guy. But Dillard should not pitch in close situations until he can prove something. His minor league stats look alright.
  9. I like Cirillo as the color guy, although he is perhaps a bit awkward. Where's Rock?
  10. I doubt it. People complained the last couple games he started too. he was fine. Like I said before I'll say again he can't really be worse than McGehe defensively at 3rd.
  11. Where do you find this information? Would it be possible to post other teams? Is it normal to expect positive WAR from 8/8 players on a team and say anything with negative WAR is "putrid"? At least for me this is totally out of context, and I'm not really familiar with WAR, but I would expect that most teams have a mix of players above and below replacement. Without seeing the league wide data I would guess the Brewers WAR mix is somewhere between normal and good compared to the rest of the league. Otherwise every team in the league would be on pace for 100 wins.
  12. I think some of you guys are forgetting how bad Mcgehe has been defensively at 3rd base. I have some concerns about putting Gamel there as well, but ultimately feel like this is a positive attempt at making an improvement. And really don't think he could be much worse. Im Not writing off Mcgehe. I hope he has a feel good comeback player of the 2nd half. But right now we need to explore possible changes.
  13. 16-11 Pretty good schedule
  14. I was at both of the last two games. Very frustrating to watch. The Brewers outhit the Yankees both games yet come nowhere near winning. I saw lotta brewer fans on Tuesday, but not as many last night. The first game the Yankees score 12 runs on 10 hits, and the Brewers score 2 runs on 11 hits. Talk about aggravating. I’d been looking forward to that game and seeing Grienke pitch for so long. But before I could even finish eating my hot dog it was pretty much over. Then, last night it felt like no matter how many hits the Brewers got, the only prayer they had to drive in some runs would be via the long ball, and it wasn’t happening. Yankees turned three double plays in the first 3 or 4 innings, including one on a good catch by Granderson but some very bad base running by Hart. Yankees really work the pitch count and take their time in the batters box. It is infuriating to watch their routines. But they do lead all of MLB in base on balls so there is something behind their strategy, not just wasting time for no reason. However, would it be ok for the pitcher to just throw his pitch while Nick Swisher spends 45 secods digging his feet into the batters box for no good reason? That’s what I’d do. I was too far up in the nosebleeds to see anything well, but even before the Russel Martin homerun last night, and when the Brewers had the lead, I thought that Marcum looked pretty bad and was laboring. I was just waiting for something bad to happen. He couldn’t get out of an inning with less than 20 pitches. One bright spot from Tuesday night was that Mat Gamel looked sharp in each AB; even his outs were on well hit balls, but unfortunately that didn’t hold true last night. I'd go ahead and start him today even against a lefty. Yankee stadium isn’t that big of a deal in my opinion. It’s funny to me that they spend $1.5 billion on a stadium but a place like PNC Park in Pittsburgh, which cost $250 million for the Pirates to build, provides a much better ballpark experience. Also have to wonder where the Yankees would be if they didn’t have the money to just go out and buy Tiexara, A-Rod, and Sabathia. It seems ridiculously easy to hit homeruns at Yankee Stadium. Lazy pop flies end up on the warning track in right field. The Brewers need some homeruns today. I will be there again. Please give me something to get excited about Brewers.
  15. Do managers ever kick dirt on umpires anymore? I don't see it happen. Why not? That would've been a good move right there.
  16. I think it's a good and valid point to bring up how many people last year were criticizing Wolf, and more so Melvin for signing him, and to point out that now the critics have gone silent. So many people were calling him "Soup Lite" or whatever and bashing Melvin to no end for not being creative when in fact $10M a year isn't even that big of a deal for a SP in today's market.
  17. Yes. Just because a player is good or has talent doesn't mean he's a smart player. I've seen Weeks make so many stupid mistakes over the years. He might not be on the Gomez level but he still does stupid things that make no sense.Nah, your post was a reaction to his bad game, but not a reflection of his overall career.
  18. True, but it's still an interesting stat. The Brewers bullpen has a 63% save rate as a team. That stat would include holds by the way. The NL average is 68%. If we could simply be league average that'd probably equal 1-2 more wins on 30 chances. Actually I'm surprised the amount isn't higher. Turns out a lot of teams around the league have bullpen issues, except the Phillies with their ridiculous 92% save rate. And Houston has been atrocious at 43% (I can't barely imagine what it's like being an Astros fan). Thankfully Cincinatti (65%) and St. Louis (64%) have also been pretty bad. In order to be a real contender this I think this save rate needs to go up for the Brewers. I agree with those who are questioning Roenike's use of Estrada over Hawkins last night, as well as Dillard in an extra innings tie, and agree we are seeing too much of Kameron Loe.
  19. Yeah, I turned this on during a Brewers commercial break forever ago and haven't been able to flip back. Complete melt down from the Cards bullpen in the 7th. Nats have batted all the way around and then some. 6 run frame. Fun to watch. $2 Tuesday at Nationals stadium seems to draw a surprisingly packed and excited crowd. Good promotion down there in DC on what would otherwise probably be an empty ballpark in DC
  20. Yeah Jeter will rank 13 out of 28 in terms of batting average amongst those who got to 3,000 with Molitor 14, Aaron 15, and Yount 23. However I'm sure that other hitters saw their batting average decline after getting to 3k. But I guess what it says is that Jeter has done a pretty good job. Looks like Tony Gwynn is the best hitter of any recent era at least in terms of average. Still interested in the # of ABs to 3,000 if anyone sees it.
  21. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Eucker actually did the same thing. He went on a huge tangent about the rundown and barely talked about the safety squeeze. Apparently the cubs rundown execution was really poor and it shocked Eucker apparently Bill too
  22. I am curious how does Jeter rank in the 3,000 hit club in terms of the number at bats needed to get to 3,000? I searched for something showing this but no luck. I am hoping this doesn't happen until the brewers series but most likely it will happen against the Cubs at Wrigley.
  23. Maybe off topic but I just wanna say I really hate the Houston Astros more than any team in the central. They are so boring. Perpetually bad. No hope for the future. No exciting prospects. I didn't even like Jeff bagwell for some reason. Houston, not great city from what I understand. Probably the last tram in MLB I would want to see when they come to town. I hate the Houston Astros.
