  1. Because they think Aoki is good and won't sit him. Aoki has sat out a number of games including today and he can and has also played LF and CF.
  2. Why not give Khrush some starts in RF to close out this year to test him out?
  3. With a sweep of this series, the Brewers have a chance to fall within 2.5 games of the Cubs for 2nd to last place. Let's go crew!
  4. Rock just mentioned how Tyler Thornberg hasn't pitched since July 5th. I just checked and Thornberg's only allowed 2 runs in 13 innings including for a 1.35 era. My question is, why isn't Thornberg getting a chance to start over Donovan Hand? (edited: realized his last two outings were long relief, not starts. Still wondering why Hand)
  5. I remember that thread. I also said "I don't want to be premature, as it's just one start." It looked like he was starting to get control of his pitches. Since then, he's been awful, giving up 8 runs in 11 innings to offensive juggernauts Philadelphia and Miami. It goes to show the talent is there, but the consistency is not. That is why he needs to go back down, to work on refining his craft. In the Majors, he's just not consistent. It doesn't at all lessen my enthusiasm about his future. But right now Wily pitching in Milwaukee is not helping Wily, or Milwaukee. I have wondered about sending Peralta down to the minors too but still find it interesting how different your tone is towards Peralta on a night he threw a quality start and was very effective throwing just 60 pitches through 6 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 walk. Without being pinch hit for and without Ron Roenicke as a manager that is a path towards a complete game and a win.
  6. He's had more than one bad inning though, and that's the point. He's not just "not perfect", he's awful this season. His ERA before tonight's game in 15 starts was 6.16. His WHIP is 1.718. In 68 innings pitched, he's struck out 42 and walked 29. He's giving up 11.7 hits and 3.8 walks per 9 IP. Can you not see that? You're talking about "if he starts striking out more batters", he'll look better. Really? But he's not striking out batters. He is clearly overmatched right now at the Major League level, and needs to go back down. Giving up 6 runs a game isn't helping his confidence whatsoever, nor is it correcting any of the problems he's having. And it's certainly not helping the Brewers to get back in the race. Stache, this is an interesting change of pace from 10 days ago when you started an entire appreciation thread about "big Wily" who was "really staring to put things together" and who "has the ability to be a true ace" as he looked looked "absolutely outstanding" and therefore deserves "A big, enthusiastic round of applause". viewtopic.php?f=63&t=29995
  7. Estrada, Narveson, and Burgos are on the DL. Fiers has been a wreck and is either in AAA or a bullpen mop up role (not sure). Most of these guys are a wreck anyway, my guess is Gorzzellanny joins the rotation, although that will require paying him more money at some point, so maybe not. Also, Thornberg was brought up to start but ended up pitching out of the bullpen a couple days ago instead.
  8. I don't think this game is being broadcast on Wisconsin Television with Rock and BA. Mlb.tv has the video feed overlapped perfectly with Uecker. After so many times turning the volume off on the tv while listening to a delayed radio broadcast, this is like a dream come true.
  9. I always thought the brats at miller park were pretty good.
  10. I think you're still missing the point many are making about those past trades, the objections to those trades have nothing to do with the players being traded and everything to do with the nature of the solutions offered to our pitching problems. You can only buy so many MLB pitchers with prospects and then the well runs dry. For those of us with WS aspirations, how many teams have won a World Series but got out-pitched by the opposition? That was the realization that started me on the "young starting pitching" track I've been on since the off-season before 2008. I don't mean during the regular season, but in the post season when teams shorten their rotations and bullpen to cut out the fat? What are your feelings on the franchise? Braun and Segura don't make the franchise anymore than Braun and Fielder made the franchise, 2 position players no matter how good they are won't carry a team by themselves. Are you optimistic for the future? If so why? If not why not? I don't think Logan's intent was to rehash the same arguments on both sides of the organization building fence for the 1000th time. Rather how do you feel about the state of the entire franchise and where do you see it heading? Many of us whom take a macro view of the organization and NL central have become very apathetic over the last handful of years, those that focus on just the MLB team seem to be more optimistic. Where do you fall? No, I fully understand the point. I think that suggesting we traded away the future for two playoff appearances not only undervalues the significance of making the NLCS for the first time in Twenty Nine Years, it also ignores the fact that all those transactions also netted Jean Segura who appears to be better than all the prospects we traded away, combined. And if your suggestion is that we should have acquired "young starting pitching" instead, then that is a hypothetical scenario which most likely would not have been as successful as Segura + Grienke + NLCS. I realize you were so focused on your "young starting pitching" dissertation that you forgot to enjoy nearly making the world series for the first time in three decades, but in my opinion it was a worthwhile gamble and I don't agree with the idea that the future of the whole organization has been compromised as a result. I also understand based on your comments from the past three years you think all 30 teams in the MLB have the capacity to replicate the Rays, regardless of draft slot history... I think you're missing the point. Yes I remain optimistic about the future of the Brewers. I know the month of May 2013 has been terrible but that doesn't automatically have me jumping on the board of the same title, different name vent thread every time things go bad. Brewers have a tremendously talented offense and I completely haven't given up on the talents of Wily Peralta or Gallardo during a rough stretch, or even Estrada and Lohse for that matter. Some reinforcements would certainly be nice but that doesn't mean I see the entire organization going down the tubes. 2013 is certainly not looking that promising but I'm not giving up hope.
  11. Everyone will point to the two playoff appearance as evidence of how great of a GM he is but the fact is he traded away the future for those two appearances. The way I see it is we traded away a group of players who haven't amounted to much of anything yet for two years of Grienke and Marcum and an NLCS bid, and then flipped Grienke for Jean Segura. That is way better than Matt LaPorta, Brett Lawrie, Alcides Escobar, Jeremy Jeffrees, and Odirizzi combined. Take a look at Lawrie's stats in comparison to Rickie Weeks and notice Weeks is having a better year. That's how bad Lawrie's been.
  12. Thanks. I find it interesting the Brewers overall average was 34,955 for the entire season per espn. Brian Anderson was saying attendance is always lowest in April & May because kids are still in school. But these stats indicate attendance was actually higher last year in April in May. I suppose that is because they were coming off an NLCS birth in 2011, but played poorly during the year until a late season surge, so attendance went down in June/July/Aug. http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance/_/year/2012

  14. As will the fans at Miller Park if this season continues in the downward spiral it is currently on. The Brewers are already down 116,000 fans compared with last year, over 5,000 per game, the 3rd largest drop in MLB. Attendance will likely wind up around 2.5 million unless they somehow get back into the race by August. I doubt there will be any money for free agents this winter. I'm curious what is this based on (116,000 and 5,000)?
  15. With this comment I am only wondering if are you watching the game? Burgos had 88 pitches through just 3 1/3 innings and was laboring in every single inning. Fiers came in and cleaned up. I am starting to wonder if it's time for Burgos to go back to AAA.
  16. You guys seriously think Martinez threw at Segura and Lucroy intentionally? Segura had two strikes on him. I don't even think Lucroy got hit. It might have nicked his pants, but I don't think so. Putting a free runner on base in "retaliation" for these actions, in a tie game, would be foolish I think.
  17. So a sawed off bloop single was the tipping point for you?
  18. WhoA-- and just realized he's also leading all of baseball in WAR at this point: 2.4 Gomez followed by 2.1 for Upton & Kinsler.
  19. Not sure I completely follow but I was watching it on MLBTV earlier I haven't turned it on tonight. I'd assumed this was one of the nationally televised games that would black it out on MLB.tv. MLB network games aren't blacked out on mlb.tv. Only the major networks/espn.
  20. Thanks Nottso for posting the link and introducing me to this unknown baseball movie gem! I just watched the movie for the first time and agree it was one of the all time greats!
