  1. He didn't do anything today, but he hit fine in the Reds series. You have a different definition of fine than I do. A .724 OPS is not fine. There is no doubt in my mind that 4 hits in 12 at bats and 3 RBI over one series can be considered a "fine" series at the plate. It seems to me that you are pouring through the stats to find one indicator to criticize. And you have posted this argument in multiple threads. Sure, .724 is not a fantastic OPS to post over the course of a season but I will take 4 hits and 3 RBI in a 3 game series any time.
  2. He obviously didn't have a play on Stubbs because he was playing behind the base but he somehow had a play on Hanigan he was probably at least 5 feet past 3rd base and running on contact? There was no play on Stubbs or Hanigan so look to see if you can catch Janish between the bases and he would've if he looked. So he obviously didn't have a play at home even though he missed an out by a split second, he missed by one hundredth of a second but didn't have a play.
  3. Well, Peralta just gave up 5 runs in 1/3 of an inning so that is not promising. Dillard came in and took care of the mess so we'll see.
  4. Well they did steal 108 bases (6th in NL) in Yost's final season with the Brewers compared to 81 (12th in the NL) under Maccha last year, so I do not think it is only insignificant rhetoric. Also should take into account that Maccha had a faster team last year with Escobar & Gomez/Cain than Yost did in 08 with Hardy & Cameron.
  5. Looks like they have 18 stolen bases out of 24 attempts (75%) over 14 spring training games. That is 1.7 attempts per game and 1.3 steals per game. Granted this is only spring training but that is a lot. Last years Brewers stole 81 bases of 107 attempts (also 75%) over the full 162 game season. That’s 0.7 attempts per game and 0.5 steals per game. I know it is a comparison of spring training to the regular season, yet I think there is enough significance there to show that Roenike is serious about the running game. Aside from the stats I have been listening to some spring training games on the radio and have most certainly heard the aggressiveness in the calling of the games, not only in terms of stolen bases, but also areas like stretching a single into a double, taking off for home on a passed ball, and distracting the pitcher on the base baths.
  6. These new klements sausages commercials running on repeat during WTMJ spring training games are absolutely brutal. The song does not put me in the mood to eat a bratwurst, in fact the imagery the song creates is the opposite eating brats. Sadly the song is so bad that it is running through my head "relax, relax, it's klemments time"
  7. Gomez with a triple down the left field line, incredible
  8. Betancourt seems to be making solid contact early in spring training.
  9. update: mid back tightness sounds like pretty good news rather than arm trouble
  10. sounds to me like Luis Cruz is having a splendid game with a homer and some aggressive base running. Maybe he can build on his winter league performance and be this years spring training uderdog.
  11. still extremely confused by this, and the product descriptions on mlb.tv and/or At Bat are not very helpful. Also, what if I want to watch live games on my iphone? How does that work / what do I need?
  12. Does anyone know, if I have mlb.tv am I able to use this subscription to listen to MLB radio on my iPhone? Or do I have to seperately purchase at bat or something? I was trying to figure this out today but couldn't. I know when you buy mlb.tv that also gives you MLB audio on the computer, but do mobile devices may require something else???
  13. "Man, I feel like a woman" by Shania Twain is my least favorite song ever. "Whose bed have your boots been under" is not far ahead of it.
  14. I have been to about 20 MLB stadiums. Fenway stands out as by far and away the most remarkable ballpark. I like the classic style and the history. Also I think the ballpark has a beautiful design and very intimate feel. The ballpark is located in a vibrant part of Boston so it is fun to go out or just walk around before or after the game. The fans there are die hard and seem to be knowledgeable and every game is a sell out which I appreciate. Of the newer stadiums, I like PNC Park in Pittsburgh the most. Walking across the Roberto Clemente bridge to get to the great is a good start. Inside the stadium I like it that the ballpark is simple and does not resemble a shopping mall like most of the other new stadiums. I consider the Pittsburgh Primati brothers local behemoth style sandwiches the most noteworthy concession item in all of MLB. The walking ramp from the field level up to the right field grandstand has tremendous views of the playing field and Pittsburgh and its lovely bridges. While I often find the in game entertainment and MLB PA systems to be an obnoxious distraction at baseball games, I enjoyed most of the stuff going on in Pittsburgh. A few of the stadiums I would give a poorest grade would be Nationals Stadium, Citi Field, and Citizens Bank Ballpark. I think these relatively new stadiums are dull and boring, often cookie cutter designs, lacking in unique local flavor, surrounded by parking lots or neighborhoods where I wouldn’t want to be. The absolute worst stadium was Tropicana Field in Tampa; that place felt like a depressing dungeon to me. Other noteworthy stadiums in my opinion include Camden Yards and Wrigley Field. I thought the old Tiger Stadium was far superior to Wrigley, and I wish they never tore it down, but I do think they did a pretty good job with the new Tiger Stadium. The new Yankee Stadium is not bad either and I like it that they offer rather affordable bleacher seats at or near the field level.
  15. I guess I'm the only one who thinks $15.5 million is an overpay, considering that this is $3 million higher than any arbitration case I'n history. I don't get that. Why does Prince deserve not only the highest arbitration salary ever but also by a significant amount? Shouldn't $14m been more than enough?
  16. So we have concluded Weeks isn't resigning with the Brewers next year or what does this mean?
  17. This is kind of what I was thinking about while reading through this thread. Have there ever been any studies examining the relevance of Baseball America’s prospect and organizational rankings rankings? For example, who were the top/bottom rated minors systems three years ago and how do their big league teams look now? Over time, not just one year. Since Baseball America is considered THE source for prospect and organizational rankings I am curious to see if there are any critical studies measuring the significance of their ranking systems. Interesting that the team with the worst system in baseball was able to trade for Zack Grienke while most baseball reporters applaud the brewers for not giving up too much to get him.
  18. Any thoughts on bringing back Jorge De La Rosa? Is that a good idea and what would it take to get him? I would like to see him in there as the #3 followed by Rogers, although I know there are cons to rushing Rogers up.
  19. Bill Scott was an Irish footballer who played as a goalkeeper for, among others, Everton, Leeds City, Liverpool and Ireland. In 1913 Scott was a member of the Ireland team that beat England for the first time with a 2–1 win at Windsor Park. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...y_Scott_%28footballer%29 And he's a voice over actor: http://en.wikipedia.org/w..._Scott_%28voice_actor%29 He's also a racecar driver: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ott_%28racecar_driver%29 And he's a famous ukulele player: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_%22Uke%22_Scott Bill Scott is a reporter and the sports director for Wisconsin Sports Network and WHBY of Appleton. As far as I can tell, this Bobby Valentine tip is by far the most high profile information leak that Scott has been a part of.http://www.wrn.com/contact-us/reporters/
  20. My research tells me the average MLB manager earns about $1.5 million. So in my mind, if we pay Valentine $3 million, the incremental cost of hiring Bobby Valentine is $1.5 million. $1.5 million is about the value of a Craig Counsell caliber player. If Bobby Valentine merits anything approaching the level of enthusiasm I am seeing from many on this board, I'd say he's well worth it. I'd do it. I voted for Bobby V, like most in the poll. And thanks for suggesting the poll Greg21, good idea!
  21. Sometime around 1992 I won a pack of 1978 Topp's baseball cards in a raffle at a baseball card show at the VFW in Appleton. There were no valuable cards in the pack if I remember correctly. On a dare, I ate the gum that came with the pack, which must've been about 15 years old at the time. It was gross. I won a Rawlings baseball glove at my team banquet sometime around middle school around 1994. I used it through middle school, high school and now 16+ years later this still use this glove when I play baseball or softball.
  22. Arizona Diamondbacks: not a fan of Phoenix, this team, or the reality that people can't really be outdoors during the day in summer because of the heat. Houston Astros: don't want to be in Houston, Texas Texas Rangers: don't want to be in Arlington, Texas Washington Nationals: not a baseball town Chicago White Sox: I have long standing dislike for this organization. If in Chicago I'd rather play at Wrigley even though I hate the Cubs as much as any other Brewer fan. Teams I would most want to play for would be the Brewers, Red Sox, Giants, A's, or Mariners. Unfortunately I don't think I'm about to be drafted :/
  23. yay! 5-0. Not buying this whole Yankees can't be beat argument. Texas may very well reach the goal of getting the series tied at 1-1 which crewcrazy initially mentioned.
  24. Good call crewcrazy. I agree the Rangers are tough, and showing it so far early on. Lee would also pitch game 7 if necessary.
