  1. Ennder, I agree. I could see them regretting this move for the second half of his contract and when were talking a 12 year deal, that's a lot of years. However, this was a risk that the Reds were willing to take. The Reds already have Bruce, Leake, Chapman, Latos, Stubbs, and Marshall under contract through 2015 (or later). They have a few notable prospects in their system that should be up either this year or next or could become trade chips. In my opinion, the Reds are going for it and they think they will be relevant the next 5 seasons, which I think is their window of opportunity, because that is what their core is signed till.
  2. If the Reds GM proves that he is unable to field a competitive team around Votto then this is a bad move for the Reds. I like this move for the Reds very much for the next 5 seasons, but after that it starts to go down hill. It will be interesting to follow the Reds attendance over the next few seasons. I believe that the Reds TV contract is up in 2016 and they will be able to negotiate a new one between now and then, so it will be interesting to see how much that increases.
  3. I agree. I mean if the Brewers want to compete with the rest of the division beyond this season, then I really think they need to re-sign Greinke. They need that 1/2 punch at the top of their rotation. I wanted to add this, That I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Brewers are trying really hard right now to extend Greinke, and that the contract will be extended by opening day.
  4. I can't believe the Reds just did that and gave him a full-no trade clause on top of it.
  5. Doug Melvin commented on the Matt Cain contract in relation to Greinke, Melvin has been dealing directly with Greinke, http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/145838165.html
  6. I believe that Cain is ranked in the top 20 from 2008-present (NL, +100 IP) in terms of runs prevented. Greinke was ranked #40 (I believe?) in 2011 alone.
  7. Offer Greinke what we offered CC Sabathia 100-115 million over 5-6 years and go from there. Anybody think Greinke will demand a full no trade clause in his next contract?
  8. No, it doesn't. Like you just said, it's about the players. I said a manager is "less relevant". I never said a manager is "irrelevant". To get to "96" wins you need everybody to be contributing positively and that includes the Brewers management.
  9. I'm in the camp that says the Manager is less relevant than the players, because in the end it comes down to the players having to perform.
  10. 96 wins proves that wrong. A team doesn't get to "96" wins with poor decision making. I will admit that Roenicke is new to managing a ball club, because he is, but despite that he did an average to above average job last season and 96 wins backs that up. There is more evidence at this point to extend him rather than fire him. I agree with you on the second statement of yours.
  11. and the fact that he played a big role is the decision making that contributed to the Brewers winning 96 games, winning the division, and getting all the way to the NL championship series should have gotten him extended. I doubt Ron played a big role in trading for Greinke and Marcum. He played a big role in the in-game decision making that contributed and in cases led to those wins that I mentioned above. Because of those accomplishments he should be looking at an extension.
  12. Morgan with his 2nd hr this spring. Giants fans must be going nuts!
  13. and the fact that he played a big role is the decision making that contributed to the Brewers winning 96 games, winning the division, and getting all the way to the NL championship series should have gotten him extended.
  14. That could have been bad for Narveson, but he got out of it nicely.
  15. We'll, he was able to limit the damage to 3 runs, which is a nice recover. Had trouble locating the strike zone early on in that 4th inning.
  16. Narveson was asking for that one. Just gave up a 3-HR. Mix it up!
  17. Strained Left Calf. http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120327&content_id=27674090&vkey=news_cin&c_id=cin
  18. This is dead on. Don't forget about not having Weeks for a couple months. Right now, I'd say the Brewers are a safe bet to win 90+ games.
  19. The Brewers probably didn't really have 96 win talent last year so the drop of 10 games is partly Fielder but mostly just playing back towards their talent level. Oh, I believe they did have 96 win talent last season. If Weeks didn't miss a few months of the season and if they had K-Rod for all of the season they could have won more. That's just how good they were.
  20. Are the Reds even in a position to overpay for someone at the deadline when they are on the hook for all of Madson 8.5 million salary? I'm wondering how much they have already stretched their payroll.
  21. You honestly believe the Brewers will be 10+ games worse, because of the loss of Fielder? No way is he worth 10 wins. The Brewers will also have K-Rod for the entire season which should make the Brewers bullpen better than it was last season and bring much needed stability that they haven't had in a long time. This Brewers team is in my opinion a 90+ win team as is right now. Probably closer to 92-94 wins, but I could easily see them get to 96 wins depending on what Gamel does offensively. Lots of analysts are overstating the loss of Fielder on this team.
  22. I have to disagree with all of this. I believe the Brewers are the best team in the division. They won 96 games last season and in my opinion could have won more if Weeks didn't hurt his ankle. 2011 division champs. They only lost Fielder, but added A-Ram. The Reds went 79-83 last season and have a lot to prove before I will say they are the best team in the division. A lot to prove. The Brewers should be the favorites heading into this 2012 season, and I would call the Madson injury a decent loss for the Reds.
