  1. Do you live in the north pole or something? Australia:) Man, I've always wanted to take a trip to Australia. Where is your favorite part of Australia? Just curious.
  2. Excellent move. Our bench is going to be good this season.
  3. I live in Columbus, OH, and I use Direct TV, and I only miss about a handful of games a year, mainly Pirates series, but I get to watch at least 90-95% of them in HD. If you go with Direct TV I'd recommend the sports pack as an add on to get some additional games that you normally wouldn't get, and the more Brewers games the better. Hope this helps.
  4. Now that we have all of this MLB ready Starting pitching and pitching in the mid-upper levels of the system there really isn't a need to spend serious money in Free Agency for a long time. I'd say multiple seasons. I was SO happy when I heard that Doug Melvin was going to go with the young pitching talent this season. I thought that day would never come, but was really surprised when it did. We have a great upper management team/ownership group guys that yes makes some mistake here and there, but it wise enough to know when to change direction.
  5. I haven't hardly posted here much (going to change this season ), but I've always wanted to get together with other Brewers fans who are just as passionate about the Brewers as I am, so I might actually attend one of these gatherings. The only thing is, I can't do it in March, but the way things are going right now I will likely be in town for the opening day series at Miller Park Vs the Rockies in April. It would be super convenient to get together at the ballpark at Friday's, during that time frame. I live in Ohio, but should be able to get together any game of that Rockies series. I'm a shy person, but this sounds pretty interesting and makes me feel more comfortable, if it's able to work out. Keep me updated, ok? Thanks guys.

  7. I thought it was 72-75 million at this point?
  8. Logan, Your not as high on him as I am. I actually believe that Segura will be better than Gonzalez this coming season. We have a "very" good SS in Segura. I understand the extra year of control idea, but It's time to give Segura his chance full time.
  9. I would love to hear your reasoning for this statement. Segura has proved that he is ready. Segura proved he would be adequate right now if we needed him. I think Gonzalez would be a better SS next year and Segura's 2019 season will probably be more valuable to us than his 2013 season. What? His 2019 season? How about his 2014 season. It's pretty clear your not high on Segura. I'd like to know why. This kids bat is going to get better each year, and his ceiling is high.
  10. This is a "great" opportunity for Mat Gamel. I'm going to be cheering hard for him to start out the season very hot for the Brewers sake, financially, and to win games..
  11. Highly unlikely. Segura will be the starting SS for the Brewers, and I'm very excited about it.
  12. He's probably my favorite manager of all time. That standing ovation and the crowd chanting his name after the last game of the 82 season vs the Milwaukee Brewers that lasted 15 minutes says it all. Rest in peace, Earl. Man we just lost a great baseball mind.
  13. Relative to what exactly? What closers make in FA? It's not fair to compare the Arby process to FA, more so it's fair to compare similar players at a similar juncture of the career. If he pitches like last year it's a horrible investment. I'm not suggesting they should have non-tendered him, this kind of money was inevitable, but I don't see much "bargain" in the signing. He got market value and there's no way that market values ever equals a bargain. From a value standpoint 5M for < 70 innings isn't all that intriguing, closer, setup man, or otherwise. Yes, relative to FA, and this is part of a bigger point that I was making in another thread. Find and develop relievers from within your system, because it's much cheaper than going through FA. I also see no reason at all to extend Axford beyond his FA years. I like Axford, but I just don't see any need to pay what he will command in FA, and they will need to find someone else at that time or perhaps sooner. I'm all for recycling relievers from within the system once the current relievers become too expensive.
  14. This is a bargain.
  15. You could very well make the case that this is a good move for the Nats before a game is even played (on paper), even though they really overpaid big time. Once the games are played and should he have one of those common middle of the road or down years that a reliever is commonly known to have, then I'd bet that there will be many fans (Nats fans and others) that will say, "Wow, did the Nationals just waste 15-19 million dollars." They will be less favorable of this deal. Usually you can find at least 1 reliever that got paid a fraction of what he got paid during FA and that performed better that season. Btw.. Should he blow out his arm in ST and get injured, then they just wasted 50% of his contract, and likely more because he will be done for the season or depending on the injury some of the following year as well. It will make the Nationals really look bad. It's extremely risky to sign a reliever to a deal like this.
  16. Considering how volatile relievers are from year to year, I would say yes. All relievers have up and down years. If a reliever is having a down year, then it's important to have depth (cheap depth) to be able to step in a replace him. It's an extremely risky move to commit this kind of money to a reliever, and in my opinion most of the time if not all the time not worth it.
  17. Roderick, It's irrelevant, because it's still WAY too much money committed a reliever.
  18. You can't just ignore how it is spread out just because you think it is too much. It is basic math/finance. Without more details, it could be most of the $14M is going to be paid 12 years from now. If you use the rate of inflation in baseball to figure it in todays dollars it is definitely much less than the Yankees QO cost per year. This looks to me like a way for Bores to save face as the dollar amount looks big enough, but the real cost is much lower. Actually, I can ignore how it's spread out, because it's still 28 million committed, so they have to pay it all. It's totally an overpay, and perhaps by 20+ million.
  19. Did they really need to commit 28 million to 1 reliever? I don't believe they did. Is it guaranteed to be a good move because Soriano is a very good reliever? no, because yes he could very well not live up to expectations and be anywhere near worth the money he's signed for. Then they could be talking about how they could have signed some other reliever for 5-10 million total that would have done a better job, which is very common, btw... Relievers have up and down years over their career all the time and it's just not a position ball clubs need to commit 28 million to for only 2 years of service. There is always better positions on the roster for that money. I don't care how much money a team has to spend there are smarter and better ways to run a ball club. I'm not trying to focus only on the Nationals here, but in general, it's not smart.
  20. Wily Peralta is my breakout player of 2013, based on what I've seen from him last season. I have high expectations for this kid. It wouldn't surprise me at all if in a couple years from now he's better than Gallardo. That small bad stretch (hurdle) he overcame was "huge" for his development as a Starting pitcher. "Huge."
  21. Even though the Nationals got a good relief pitcher, 28 million is too much to commit to one no matter how it's spread out. I'm of the philosophy that ball clubs need to look within their farm system for relief help (Axford, Henderson, and possibly Rogers this coming season some), or sign a cheap veteran on a 1 or 2-year deal, just like the Brewers did with Gonzalez and Gorzelanny. Hard throwers that can throw strikes only when the catcher calls for it. Bullpens in my opinion are supposed to be cheapest area of the roster. A team that goes young in the bullpen can be just as effective as a expensive veteran bullpen, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers bullpen is right up there with the Nationals and Atlanta's in 2013. I also wanted to note that the Brewers can get away with just having an average bullpen, because they have a top 3 offense in the NL that can make up for it.
  22. You might be correct with what they do with Gamel. It's just hard for me to see Gamel stuck on the bench and I'm sure it's hard for the Brewers as well since they know his potential as a starter, but Aoki has been really good and he's super cheap. Don't get me wrong it's good to have all of this talent, especially on the bench, but I'd bet that if the Brewers get a good trade offer and the team wants Gamel included in packaged deal, before they make a deal, then Gamel in my opinion is so gone. I have high expectations for Schafer as well, but I actually believe that the Brewers will let Gomez walk, because they have Schafer waiting in the wings, so he will play CF, not RF, in my honest opinion.
  23. I really doubt that happens. Aoki fits too neatly in what Roenicke wants. Unfortunately. That's not unfortunate at all in my opinion. Aoki is a very very good leadoff hitter and hitter in general, and if he can duplicate what he did last season or do better than we will forget all about Gamel in RF. Also should the Brewers re-sign Hart, Gamel wont have a position on the team and imo will likely be packaged in some trade deal, because I doubt he will be a bench player and he wont have a starting position in the team.
  24. We are talking about the same thing. The reason why I originally said the Brewers could send cash over for him is because they have the payroll flexibility to do it, which not all teams can and do have that flexibility to be able to do that. Yes, if big market team is competing with us for him they obviously have more cash, but I doubt there will be a bidding war over how much cash one sends over to the Mariners. It will be mostly about talent.
  25. Actually, it doesn't matter if they have the lowest payroll. There are cases of teams not willing to eat salary, because they can't, and we aren't talking about the Brewers here. The trade can be contingent on re-signing Hart, which wont be an issue for them at all. Small obstacle. To give up this much for Hernandez is a big decision.
