BINGO! I also think that we shouldn't overlook the Jeopardy part of the equation. That's a perfect situation for an egotist like AR. In Hollywood you are the greatest thing ever and you can do no wrong until they are done with you. Aaron likely would feed off the constant stroking of his ego and it plays perfectly to his need to be the best every day, every minute and for everything he says and does. Do you really think that's much different than how he's treated right now? He's the 3 Time MVP of the Green Bay Packers. I'm pretty sure his ego is getting plenty of attention. I think that's just something that gives him some leverage.

Yeah, I just jumped down a Packer's fan's throat on Twitter(after we were talking about how bad Twitter is, so I did apologize) after he said this; He said, "The Packers have NEVER given Rodgers any help...he's made every WR'er he's played with." Then he kinda contradicted himself and said they've never had a good 2nd option when they had Nelson and now with Adams, but it is infuriating. The media seems to be fueling this narrative, and some fans with very selective memories are buying it, incorrectly. At one point, Rodgers had a WR room of Driver, Jennings, James Jones, Nelson, and Cobb. How crazy good was that? Add in Adams a bit later. Maybe we only think our WR room has lesser talent now because of how great Thompson was of stocking it with talent previously? And let's not leave out Finley. He was on his way to becoming an All-Pro TE. They also went out and got Jared Cook, they signed Bennett. The problem for most of Rodgers tenure(when there was a problem) was on the defensive side of the ball and then if you want to blame the Front Office, they weren't aggressive enough in plugging those holes in my opinion. Particularly the last few years, but Rodgers has generally had a lot of talent to throw to. Just because they weren't 1st round picks... In that same stupid conversation, the guy on Twitter tried telling me the difference in the NFCCG came down to the Buccs spending a 5th round pick on Tyler Johnson who caught a key pass on 3rd down while the Packers went with a UDFA who couldn't come up with a key catch on a similar player. So there is no shortage of stupid opinions and bad takes out there.

If it does, how absolutely absurd is it that he would do to Love exactly what was done to him 13 years ago? Yeah, nobody is setting Love up for success at this point. IF Rodgers leaves even after next year because he's upset with the team, that blame is going to be felt the most by Love...pretty unfairly. And he's going to have to be a very good NFL QB to endure that. I really liked Love last year and I think he's got a chance, but not if he takes over in the same type of situation Rodgers did. He doesn't seem like he has the confidence and even arrogance that has served Rodgers well. And even if it's not because of Love..as the rumblings about Rodgers not being happy came out long before the selection of Love with reports about him not being happy with McCarthy, as justified as they turned out to be, him being upset he didn't know they were firing his position coach and then a whole litany of issues we wouldn't have the first clue about, the blame is still going to fall on Love's shoulders. It's amazing how many people are already calling him a bust...with the main reason being, "He wasn't active for a game last year." That's also the dumbest as it just wasn't necessary.

That could certainly happen and is probably a good guess based on their history...but there are probably 7 or 8 really athletic Tackles still available and I think a couple of them could make it to the end of the second. Someone like Radunz will likely be gone, as will Jenkins, but Little, Cosmi, Brown, Mayfield, all fit the Packers scheme pretty well and at least one should still be around. I just hope they view Tackle as a need. Even if they THINK Nijman is finally ready to break out, they could certainly use a swing tackle given the questions about Bahk(though he did look pretty good while screwing around with Rodgers with the boxing).

I read on bleacher report that the Packers got an F for not drafting one of the 5 top WR's left on the board. Obviously the packers feel they can get one today, if thats the route the wanted to take. You are correct, that there are a decent amount of OL left too. Besides Samuel, I don't see that many top CB's left. It's just not even based on reality any longer. It's a talking point and that's it. There was just an article about whoever the Packers do end up picking at WR'er, the expectations for him will be huge, just because it's been SUCH an overblown issue now for the last several years. Really it became one when Jordy had the ACL and that was when the group started to get a bit thin. This is an offense that can do more with less at WR'er...and a defense that absolutely requires exceptional athletic ability at CB to be able to play as much man as they do. So it's just common sense to prioritize CB over WR'er even if there was a player there who they thought of as highly as they did Stokes. WR'er is at best the 4th biggest need coming into this draft.

Also...Samuel is a nice player, but I think a lot of the buzz around him was from his Dad being a stud and him coming from FSU. I'm a FSU fan, so I watch their games when I can. He didn't stand out like guys in the past there did. So I think it's probably accurate, the Packers thought there was a massive drop-off at CB. At OT, there are guys that will drop. I keep mentioning Walter Little and Spencer Brown. Two massive men who are just awesome athletes and should be available in the 2nd. I'll be happy if they go OT and then DE today depending on what WR'ers are available.

Then he kinda contradicted himself and said they've never had a good 2nd option when they had Nelson and now with Adams, but it is infuriating. We definitely could use a really elusive WR'er/RB-type weapon. Someone like Gibson who went just after Dillon last year(like the kid from UCLA Felton). But really, we've got the offensive weapons. That isn't the problem. So I REALLY doubt Rodgers is upset that we're not adding a WR'er so much as he's upset that they didn't address a more immediate need with the Love pick and bring in more talent this off-season(though they were handcuffed due to his contract).

I definitely think Rodgers is a Diva(and that the Packers almost certainly won't trade him), but I also am skeptical that this was just him throwing a tantrum. It sounds like they've tried to extend him...maybe it was a Romo/Brady type deal where they give him 15 million now and then he just adds a few years that aren't guaranteed. That'd be the smart move if his top priority was winning and if the Packers would put that money into a position of need(Schwartz for example) that'd help him out. But the new X-factor is the chance that he could get that Jeopardy gig. There are a million and one great things about not having an owner, but it feels like this is a situation where Jerry Jones or even Daniel Snyder could have come in and assuaged his concerns last year. I'm not even sure exactly what his issue is right now. It can't possibly be what the moronic talking heads are saying, ie, we need to and haven't gotten him a WR'er. That's not our problem. We're not loaded there, but we have a superstar, a really nice possession WR'er, a deep threat, a younger guy in EQ with big upside, a TE, and an RB who are both good at catching the ball, and we just invested a massive new contract to his best friend on the team and his LT. So does this go back to Love? Did he feel insulted by the contract the Packers tried to get him to sign? I don't know, but the Packers hold the cards in terms of where Rodgers plays. Obviously, IF Rodgers plays isn't up to them, but I'd keep building while assuming he's going to be here the next 2-3 years.

Eichenberg screams Packer o-linemen that the fans hate on draft day that becomes an All-Pro. Fits the mold well as a player. That is very possible. Just a couple of notes regarding Liam Eichenberg: - Cleveland area product. I would not be surprised if he physically shows up at the draft site on Friday evening awaiting his selection. - His younger brother is currently a LB at Ohio State - Went to same local high school as former packer LB Jake Ryan. Other notable names from the program in the recent past: DT Chris Hovan, DE DreMont Jones, QB Brian Hoyer, recently hired coordinators Dave Ragone (OC for ATL) & Jon Gannon (DC for Philly). - Was offered a scholarship by Urban Meyer/ Ohio State before entering his sophomore year of high school (Liam hadn't played varisty level ball yet) - both CLE & Baltimore (among others) have O-line needs & picks ahead of packers in 2nd round; I wouldn't be surprised if Eichenberg is drafted before Packers pick again (if staying at #62) There is a lot of talent left at OT. Guys like Walter Little, Spencer Brown have a ton of upside, Mayfield and Jenkins are both pretty proven tackles(as well as Eichenberg obviously). Just 3 of PFF top 10 OT's have been taken. And maybe the Packers think Nijman has developed. That's a guy they've been developing the last 3 years and is extremely athletic for a Tackle.

Particularly TT's later drafts. I have wondered a bit if the Packers will end up missing out on a few guys they might otherwise overlook like Adams for instance or Jones...as neither scored very high on the RAS, but that's really nit-picking. I really do love Gute as a GM when it comes to team building. I can't help but wonder what he'd have done with a young Rodgers. I guess we might find out if Love hits.
-
As a Packers fan, I'd have been much happier with their draft had they taken Mac Jones instead of adding picks and still getting a potential franchise LT(finally).
-
Fixed. I only bother with Twitter when someone here posts something interesting. Social media on the whole can be pretty toxic, but the format of Twitter seems to bring out the worst in people. I'm worried there is an ELE that happens...and then a few hundred or thousands of years from now aliens come here...they find some books, but the one thing that survies is NSA surver farms. And this leads them to Social Media...at which point, they peruse some Facebook, Twitter and decide, "yup, they DEFINITELY needed to go."
-
I wonder what that's like, having an aggressive GM that will help out his stud quarterback. Wouldn't be a Packer offseason without fans complaining about the front office despite how good they are at their jobs..... It's a pretty valid complaint. I've been as big of a defender of the Packers FO as anyone, but they're neareing the end of the road with Rodgers and they just have not been as aggressive as nearly any other team has been in a similar situation or would be. Maybe it's due to the lack of an owner, I don't know, but just look at what other teams are doing? KC is drafting well...AND they're going out and acquiring players to fill the holes they have.
-
I'm still a little confused. Are you saying he wouldn't have played as well as Favre or just as well as he's played in the era he's in? If it's the later, I think that would go for literally every other QB playing. Mahomes would have been great, but nothing like he is right now if his career started when Favre's did. The QB is just so protected now and on top of that, they keep making it easier to throw the ball, etc..all things we all know. I took it to mean you thought if Rodgers and Favre played in the same era, Rodgers wouldn't have been as good as Favre.
-
Yeah...you're not wrong. I'd maybe argue it was half the reason, the other half being that they couldn't protect Rodgers, but if they were better in either area(and just a LITTLE better) they'd have played in the SB. It was a need pick, but he's also a guy with massive upside, a guy who fits perfectly with the Packers scheme(assuming they don't get stupid and decide to play a bunch of zone). I've said this in the past. With the race exception of 2020 when they picked a QB in the first round, a particular position you don't like, the draft should really only bring optimism as a fan. We don't know enough to guess which CB will end up being better than the other, we're mostly just reading the opinions of others and then forming our own favorites. Not to mention, of the few 'faults' I have with Gutey, they do not lie with his ability to evaluate talent. He's been pretty damn good thus far. He's made this team bigger, more athletic, faster.
-
Pro-Football Focus had a chart assigning a value to where a player was picked. +12 meant that player was projected or graded 12 spots higher than you'd gotten him. The Packers had two + in the first two rounds of Gutey's drafts. Love and Gary. Gary was +5 and Love was +12. Alexander, Savage, Jenkins...they were all reaches. So the two more questioned picks the Packers have made have been the best 'values' while Alexander was considered a reach. 6'1 corners who play in the SEC, run 4.25 40's and are physical vs the run, I'll trust Gutey to correctly scout him and evaluate him any day.
-
Whaa? Can you explain why you like "the CB from Florida State" more than the CB from the SEC who actually covered the 4 WR'ers who went in the 1st round? And why this would make you done with this team? Now I understand not liking the Jordan Love pick. Fine. But in THIS case, they drafted the position you wanted, but not the guy who's got the more familiar name?
