  1. They may be forced to cut Hicks. At the least I'd expect they'd try to re-work his deal. He'd be a great fit in GB next season. Maybe Amos can convince him to come North. But Hicks and Mack and it looks like they're in good shape(just getting under, not addressing anything else). They have a lot of players they can just do what we did with Bahktiari and get them well under even without cutting Hicks also. Just take future roster bonuses, turn them into signing bonuses and save money. Eddie Jackson, Quinn...among others. I'm just using spotrac and playing with their "manage the roster" feature, but they usually seem pretty close.
  2. I'm pretty sure that they don't need to have a full roster, but the empty roster spots will count as minimum salaries. So I'd imagine if you have 40 players under contract, you'd have to count 11 minimum salaries. I wouldn't think the practice squad players would count, otherwise pretty much everyone would be fine. I could be wrong though and this year with the different exceptions like VSB contracts or other veteran contracts, it seems like its moving closer to the NBA's CBA. Though as we move away from Covid, hopefully it'll go back to normal.
  3. So probably about 90 pct chance they just convert Rodgers, Za'Darius contract. 50/50 they cut Preston 15 pct they extend Jones 99 pct they extend Adams Any other likely moves anyone sees coming? What's REALLY gonna be fun to watch is what the Saints do. [sarcasm]Maybe their cap situation will force them to trade Ramcyzk for 2 1sts to us. That's a move I could get on board with.[/sarcasm] Edit-I did put that last sentence in blue, but it's not showing up. Though I do think that'd be a great deal, teams don't usually trade franchise 26-year-old All Pro RT's, and the Packers do not make those types of moves. On queue The #Saints have informed CB Janoris “Jackrabbit” Jenkins that they are releasing him, source said. He was due $11.2M this year, with a cap hit of $14.2M. That one was pretty much a no-brainer, but they are still a long way away. They likely need to extend both Lattimore and Ramczyk. Not that they shouldn't, but those two players have more leverage now. And both were probably going to get ~20 million to begin with. The Saints are a franchise I think we should look at. They're going through ONE rough year after jumping through hoop after hoop the last few years to add players, even marquee players. Now they'll take a dip next year and lose some players with Brees retiring, but they should be back the following season in pretty good shape cape wise. So this fear of cap hell...most teams can really fix this with one off-season and a small re-build, and if you draft well and have 4 guys like Ramcyzk, Lattimore, Williams and Kamar all from one class, it's not even a re-build, it's just a quick re-load.
  4. I think it's meant to be a small incentive to resign veterans. If a guy might net you a 3rd or 4th you might let him walk, but if the most you can get is a 5th then maybe you think about resigning him. I guess that makes sense, but teams do this with younger players. One of the reasons the Pats let Trent Brown and Trey Flowers leave a few years ago was because they were going to net them 3rd round picks. Like the QO, it's being used differently than initially intended. It was meant as a way to compensate the less attractive teams who were trying to retain talent, but struggling to do so. Not it seems like the smart teams have years they try to add comp picks and years they know they won't, so they're more aggressive. For instance...lets say you're almost certain to get 2 3rd round picks as compensation. It would seem as though the chances you sign a big name FA is pretty low.
  5. So you don't think it's because they put what seems like a totally unreasonable price tag on him? Asking for Abrams...that has to tell teams you're not really serious. Asking for Abrams PLUS a young left handed reliever you just gave an 11 million dollar signing bonus to, who throws in the upper 90's and has elite stuff?
  6. Awesome, came over here to ask a question and it looks like you guys are on the topic. I've got spectrum...and it sucks, but it's to be expected. But I do have a high speed package and it seems like my internet is always slow. That and the fact that I could cut my bill from about 100 to 60 by just buying my Modem and Router, I'm thinking about going that way. Any suggestions on what I should get(or even IF I should) and is a combo router/modem in one better than getting each individual? I'm assuming this SHOULD be pretty easy to hook up, right? Basically just take the existing modem, router, replace them and then call spectrum? Any help would be appreciated. And if you could explain this to me like you were explaining why Braun shouldn't come back and play 3rd base for the Brewers to someone who doesn't follow baseball, ie, in child-like terms, I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

  8. There are a lot of things that don't make sense to me with comp picks. If a player has an option and the team turns it down, they can still get a comp pick for that player. A vet being worth less as long as it's not a QB. Also, I believe they changed this rule, but you could cut players before week 10 so it wouldn't have an impact on comp picks. I remember the Bears doing this with Mike Davis a few years ago. I have a feeling the Packers are planning on getting 2 3rd round picks next year for Linsley and Jones and that will likely play a role in any FA they may sign. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2021-free-agency-top-100-free-agents I think we're likely to see more Jordan Lewis(CB-Dallas) type signings to near minimum contracts. Though one guy that sounds really-really intriguing is Hassan Reddick. Went from a bust as an off-ball LB'er until the Cards played him at OLB'er where he was like Khalil Mack. Prove me wrong Gutey. Clear some cap space and fill a hole before the draft so we're not trying to fix 4 glaring holes in the draft.
  9. Abrams and Morejon are where I'd start as well, and if that wasn't acceptable to the Padres, I'm not surprised it's dead. Sure...and I can see why the Pads would pass on that deal at this time. I'd think they could make another blockbuster trade with a top 10 prospect who has enormous upside and Morejon. That seems like a lot for Hader to me. Maybe Abrams and another pitcher with a lower ceiling, but both of them? That seems like the top pieces of a trade they could make in-season for another TOR arm or a middle-of-the-order bat. If they could get just Abrams for Hader, I'd jump at that.
  10. Crazier things have happened. I thought someone said he was finally throwing pain free last year in camp before everything got shut down. If that true, maybe it's not so crazy that he could make his way to the big leagues. He certainly had TOR type stuff when he was younger. If he's still got any of that left, maybe he becomes another lefty in the pen.
  11. Just looked at about 5 different sites and they all have it between 8.3 and then Field Yates has it at 8.5. Perhaps Carson Wentz and his number is being figured into that equation? That just about makes up the difference. Speaking of the Colts, I really thought Luck would come back after sitting out a couple of years. Especially with the way they built that team. Really good young OL and they've got a much-improved defense. And Luck is only 32 years old. It was just a guess on my part, but seems less likely now.
  12. I suppose it's possible that they couldn't even get that, as a potential reason. If the best offer was a 5th, they'd be better off taking the 3rd, even though it's a year later. Seems unlikely that they wouldn't have been able to get a legit offer for him, though. Usually the easiest explanation is the correct one, which in this case there are two options: that they either have no intention to resign him at all, or that they are working on a bigger deal with him. That's the rumor, but it still doesn't make sense. He's a really good player...but to make him a top 5 paid Running back? 1 year at 8 sounds a lot better than 5 years for 60 with 30 guaranteed or whatever it will be. You've got 10 picks and we should have quite a bit of confidence in our young RB to handle the majority of the carries. This does fit what Gutekunst said though, they're not against using the tags, they just feel like there are better ways to go about it. If this is in fact what they end up doing, I think this is the wrong way to go about it. I'll be happy to have him around next year and the year after. But I imagine we'll regret this contract in the near future.
  13. I don't think there will be any magic involved at all. I thought there were two possible scenarios, the cap stays lower this year and then shoots back up next year or they spread it out more over the next couple of years. They're not spreading it out over the next couple years. The majority of the lost revenue is coming this year. The new TV money and the fact that the pct of the money going to the players is increasing in the new CBA is why the Cap is going to shoot up next year, not because of any magical thinking. Though I suppose if by Sept stadiums are still partially empty due to Covid despite 3 vaccines, we'll have far bigger problems to contend with.
  14. The sticking point was Dallas wanted it to be a 5-year deal to mitigate the cap hit and Dak wanted 4. They basically split the difference by making this a 6 year deal with the 2 voidable years.
  15. Ah...my bad. I'd forgotten he'd missed all of a season with an injury and just counted the years he'd played.
  16. That's how I took it since I said I like Northwestern guys and Iowa Guys. I actually still kinda like Lowry. It's Lancaster that I think is truly terrible. But Lowry's at least a guy you can count on to play hard, play smart, do his job. He got overpaid when they extended him and he's just a backup. But when you get a player who has all those traits, but instead of being a short-armed DE, they're an extremely athletic, long CB? Exactly what we need on the other side of Jaire. Should provide the opportunity to get quite a few picks playing on the other side of him and he sounds like a guy who could step in and start right out of the gate. Now watch this guy end up as a 3rd round pick and the Packers pass on him 3 times like Josh Jones last year when he was projected at this time to go in the 20's.
  17. The 4th was for Martinez, and the 5th was for Bulaga. Bulaga was downgraded value-wise for having 10 accrued seasons before signing as a free agent. We do get the 1st of the 5th round picks for Bulaga. So...that's something. This is another thing I don't understand. He didn't accrue his 10th season until he got to SD. So why does that impact his compensation? He would have been a 4th if he only had 9 seasons...but they count the season after he leaves the team? Meh, strange way to factor it in.
  18. Or a 4th, I don't know. But now there are reports they're trying to re-sign him. Seems like having him under the franchise tag, thereby extending the window to have exclusive negotiating rights would be much longer, but maybe that was a gesture of goodwill by the Packers and they're close to a deal. They were apparently close to one earlier this year in terms of AAV, just not with guaranteed money. I am pretty confident I know a little bit about football and I'm far more confident that everyone working in the Packers front office knows a HELLUVA lot more than I do, but I don't get not tagging him and still trying to extend him right before Free Agency. Keep in contact with the guy. Let him go see what the offers look like and then bring him back. As great as he is, he did deal with injuries his first two years...so a 5 year 60 million dollar deal with 30 guaranteed...that just doesn't make any sense to me. But again...I'm just a fan. So I'll trust the guy who actually know what they're doing will figure it out.
  19. Also, Knebel could very easily be among the games' top closers this year and I'd love to have Whitley in the Brewers farm system, TJ or not. So while TJ obviously lowers a prospect's immediate value, it's also about 90 pct recovery rate at this point. In fact, many pitchers actually at a tick or two. College pitchers who are out due to TJ have regularly seen their draft stock fall very little, if at all. Teams are a little more forward-thinking than this when talking about kids in their early 20's.
  20. Ok, but how does this prove you right about Gore? You posted a pretty mis-leading stat about him "only" pitching 183 innings "going on his 4th year" in the minors...which we all know is due to a unique situation in which no minor league pitchers pitcher last year. He reached AA at 20 years old and was dominant that year in HiA and very good in AA. So, assuming a normal progression, he likely throws ~140 innings in 2020 between AA and AAA(maybe even reaches the big leagues)...and then this inning limit you've created is a small hindrance early on, but little else. Whitley had more red flags(50 game suspension for PEDs, injuries prior to that). But two more points; A-The "trade proposal" you're stuck on, the one in which we give up players along with Hader...wasn't a proposal, it was an attempt to show you how much value Gore has and an example of the perceived value of the players involved. B-One pitcher undergoing TJ means almost nothing. Most power arms now have TJ surgery at SOME point. That a pitcher in the Astros org had it has absolutely nothing to do with a pitcher in the Padres and in no way lowers his value by the mere fact both pitch professionally.
  21. I saw 4.38. 4.31 is absolutely insane for a long, stick CB. Love Northwestern guys like I love Iowa players. They are all so well-coached, disciplined and they do not seem to struggle with the mental aspects of playing at the next level. I would be very happy if the Packers used their top 2 picks on Wildcats. Shore up their OL and their secondary. Could happen. Slater could also go in the 3rd round and Newsome could end up a top 15 pick. We all know how fluid player movement is at this time of the year. But this kid SEEMS like he's got a pretty high floor and an enormous upside.
  22. It's a little redundant with Lazard, not so much St. Brown. Lazard is more like a TE, similar to Funchess...who was considered a TE/WR'er coming out of the draft. St. Brown is more like MVS, but I think he's a better intermediate route runner and he's got better hands. I think EQ has the biggest upside of any of the Non-Adams WR'ers and he's capable of playing every position, even the physical WR'er who does many of the things they ask of Lazard, it just seems unlikely he ever reaches it. He was extremely talented at ND, but there were questions about his work ethic. Rodgers and everyone were talking about him this year...but he couldn't breakthrough. He's still young so maybe he'll figure it out, but my guess would be had has about 350 yards next year and is on another team the following(or if they draft one, he may move on earlier).
  23. Maybe pre-Covid he'd get you a 4th or a 5th in return. Short-term, low risk. But with the number of FA's who are going to be available and likely cheap. Why would a team pay Smith that much when they could sign someone like Kerrigan for probably a third of that. Smith himself on the open market coming off a down year probably gets a 1 year 5 million dollar deal. Ideally, he'd take a pay cut, but I'm guessing the Packers have already tried that. I still think it makes the most sense to bring him back. You end up saving 6-7 million when you factor in his replacement, but who knows. Gutekunst is kinda all over the place. He expects him back, now there are rumors they've "floated the idea of trading him." At the very least, designate him a post-June cut and save 12 million so you've got the room to do something. That's one of the possibilities suggested in this article with regard to the Packers salary cap. I would assume it's more likely the Packers are more conservative and end up having an off-season similar to last year, but they address more immediate needs in the draft. https://www.si.com/nfl/packers/news/heres-the-packers-path-to-ample-salary-cap-space
  24. I don't get it. They were willing to make him one of the highest-paid backs in the NFL...he turned it down. But they refused to put a tag on him? As for Williams, I don't really see him as a change of pace type back. He's a hard runner and he hits the hole and doesn't really spend much time going East to West, but he doesn't really have a different running style than Dillon. He's just not nearly as big or as physical. He's more of a James Starks. A fine complement to Dillon as Starks was to Lacy, but Jones adds an entirely different dynamic. Free Agency hasn't even started yet, but I wonder if a lot of the rumors we're hearing about the Packers doing this or that, trying to make a move to compete and improve their roster in the short term aren't similar to the rumors that Gutekunst wanted to add "two receivers" last year and that he'd go after Hooper and Robbie Anderson aggressively. At the absolute least, you had to have been able to get a 4th rounder for Jones in a trade. Any 4th you got would have been better than the supplemental pick you'll get for him. Maybe Jones made it very clear he would not sign the Franchise Tender and they didn't want to deal with that...or I suppose they could announce a contract extension before the start of free agency, which obviously unlikely. Still, hard to see how Jones isn't worth 8.0 million for ONE year.
  25. I wonder if he feels vindicated, given how LaMelo is running away with the ROY award? For a while, it looked like he hit rock bottom (LiAngelo shoplifting, going to Lithuania, starting his own league, etc.). You mean the guy who said he could beat Jordan with one arm tied behind his back or that he and his 15-year-old son could "easily take" LeBron AND Jordan? I doubt that type of arrogance ever felt like he was wrong. I do root for those kids though. They just seem like victims to me. And while LaMelo is the story, Lonzo is really playing well also. In fact...he might not have been quite so wrong about how good those guys would be playing together. If they can keep shooting it at ~38 pct each, the ball movement they'd create, the open shots. And they're not AS bad defensively as their reputations suggest. But yeah, Lavar is just a trash father and person as far as I can tell. It seems like LaMelo made some good decisions and didn't allow his father as much control over his business.
