  1. TheCrew07, just curious but isn't a football throw a perfect curveball rather than a screwball? I can't fathom a football player pronating like is necessary for a screwball
  2. the issue in the game wasn't the bunt. The issue was taking out a hot pitcher that had just dominated some hitters and does well against righties AND lefties, and replacing him with someone with less success against a known Brewers-killer in Phillips.
  3. given his numbers, age, and previous dominance, why is Mike Strong not in AA/AAA? There's no lefty reliever infront of him.
  4. It's making these late innings unbearable to listen to viewtopic.php?f=63&t=29010&hilit=wooing&start=40
  5. I just texted a buddy baffled by the move to take out Smith. He carves up 3 straight hitters. I figured "ok, maybe they wanted Thorny to get a few batters," but they brought in Kinzler who's been shaky lately
  6. I've suggested Weeks in the OF on and off for about 4 years. He played CF in college, so it's not like he'd be raw out there. Plus he can't be any worse than he's been at 2b. I'd play Scooter at 2b just because his defense is outstanding...any offense is extra
  7. I've been thinking (I know, that's dangerous). The Cards are getting praise for drafting power arms. But it's not like the Brewers don't draft power arms. It seems like most of the arms we draft, however, wind up losing velocity. Guys like Heckathorn throw 98 in college and 89-90 as a pro. Arnett was 93-95 in college and 90-92 as a pro. How come some organizations are able to get guys with power arms, and get them to either continue throwing hard OR throw harder, while our guys all instantly lose 3-6 mph? We also draft lots of projectable young guys throwing 89-92, and then they never really project higher. Due to modern teens throwing year round, should the Brewers drop the old concept of guys increasing velocity as pros?
  8. I'm with LouisEly and Souptown. I think prospects are overvalued in this day and age, and even more overvalued is draft picks. I'd rather have a solid big leaguer than a draft pick given the Brewers' current state. If we were a team like the Cubs, I'd feel differently. I would definitely consider moving Yo or Estrada after this season if the price is right. Thornburg, Nelson, Fiers, and Smith deserve shots at starting. The Rays model would be nice....get 3-5 years out of a starter and then move him. The key is identifying the right guys to trade for. Just curious, how have the Rays done in their deals for Shields, Garza, and the others?
  9. Compared to Schafer and Davis, Gindl was the better prospect and better performer in the minors, so I really am glad to see him on the roster. Being lefty with good obp, good avg, good pop, and good defense, he deserves to play. Davis has looked over-exposed lately, and Gindl's obp skills could be helpful against all the righties coming up
  10. Souptown, I've thought of that before since Weeks has options, however, he needs to agree to go down. At the very least it would build his trade value. Plus right now we need Gindl in the majors since Davis is being over-exposed as we all expected. Davis is facing too many righties and needs someone to give him some days off. Gomez needs occasional days off, and Braun seems likely to miss 20-30 games every year. So having 4 OF isn't cutting it. Gindl and Davis should be 50-50 in LF, and Schafer should get roughly 50 starts between RF and CF.
  11. it should happen more. Don't throw a star out there. But your last position player?? why not. It's also entertaining for the team and players. And like they say, nearly all these guys have pitched before.
  12. I like what I see from Wang. 94-96 mph lefties don't grow on trees. I'd rather try to get Weeks agree to being optioned to AAA to play every day.
  13. Actually, I can't imagine someone would leave an MLB tv gig for ESPN. i've heard lots of negatives about working at ESPN on Sportscenter--the stress, hours, etc
  14. one thing I've noticed is that the Cards appear to throw almost no fat pitches. Many of the pitchers are on the upper edges of the zone, the rest on the corners at all heights. Other teams were throwing far more fat pitches. We're really not chasing bad pitches, we're just not hitting our pitches against the Cards or forcing them to throw our pitches
  15. liveforoctober, I don't get your statement seeing as the ball and glove logo is back! We have two nice logos
  16. As for the rest of the team, Wily Peralta is the best star prospect in baseball that nobody has heard of. Estrada has been good for 2 seasons. Throw in Nelson, Thornburg, Fiers, and Smith and we're 9-deep with quality starters, not counting guys like Burgos, Hellweg, Pena, etc that could compete for spots if we had less depth. I've heard people say our pitching staff is weak, and I say how? They say the lineup is weak, and I say where? It's a very well-constructed tesm
  17. Don't forget that Braun has always been viewed as a nice, great guy. His fall is similar to Tiger's fall as many people thrust their own emotional expectations on him. Where people are mistaken now is that he's still regarded as a great guy and they're vilifying him like he's Bonds or ARod.
  18. I love that he's in the bullpen. Many successful pitchers have earned their opportunities in the bullpen. It allows him to learn to attack hitters, manage velocity, finish key innings, and simply to learn the competition. He'll be that much better when he next gets a chance to start
  19. couple thoughts... Ryan Howard is a good defensive 1b only when compared to Princess and Juan Francisco. That 3b angle made it seem like Scooter reached 1b before the ball was in the glove The 'stache, Reynolds walks a lot in his career. He's a 3TO dynamo with nearly identical numbers to Branyan
  20. Given that he's the only OF prospect on the club, I'm curious why Gindl hasn't been playing every day. 3 or 4 games off really is either because of an injury or poor roster management
  21. Great to see Fiers throwing well again. He's thoroughly dominated the minors and should re-establish himself as a part of our plans with a strong first half in AAA. I was worried after the fractured arm
  22. In fairness, isn't a critique of gov't different from a critique of a political view or party?
  23. Ron said that with the Gomez play, they base it on the player. Gomez didn't react like he was shocked. Since they only have 30 seconds to appeal at the end of an inning, it was a tossup. Plus that's like the neighborhood play at 2b. Guys are often called out when they really aren't to avoid worse contact. Not sure the umps would have overturned it. I was screaming and texting friends that we needed to appeal it, but in hindsight that's a tough one.
