  1. Good decision for Fischer. We sure are spoiled in Wisconsin with two strong programs. Marquette has always been fairly strong, and Wisconsin has been really good since hiring Stu Jackson. Today they have two of the nation's top coaches. Either program would have been a good call, but he chose the one that historically has had the more exciting offense AND lacks bigs.
  2. Adams is really intriguing. I like this idea.
  3. could very well be Ramirez at 1b and Green or someone else at 3b. Might keep Ramirez in the lineup where he can be a plus 1b.
  4. fondy, Herb was long ago nicknamed "the Dairy Queen of Wisconsin." To be honest, I was shocked when Tammy Baldwin was the first openly gay senator, as I long thought Kohl was publicly acknowledged. Not that that has anything to do with having heirs, just clarifying comments I've said for about 10 years that I wouldn't miss the Bucks leaving. I was a big fan as a kid but never went to games. In fact, I know one person that has regularly gone, which is pretty crazy considering how many sports fans I know. But to be honest, if you ask people in Wisconsin--even in Milwaukee-- their favorite basketball team, Wisconsin and Marquette would blow past the Bucks in terms of popularity. One component of an arena should be Marquette. It's one of the top drawing college teams in the nation and has been for over a decade. Marquette could probably get donors to build their own arena, or else contribute upwards of $50 million to the cause.
  5. recte, that's hilarious. Then every throw to first can be like our current bunt plays where Rickie has terrible footwork, ducks when the runner gets close, and then is seen chasing the ball down the RF line.
  6. Fondy, while Ramirez has 1 year left (plus option), I wouldn't be surprised if he was extended. Heck we already owe him money in future years
  7. What about one of my favorite Fall Leaguers rather than least favorites? Drew could be signed to play 3b, where he could bat leadoff and hopefully return to old obp/slg form from the left side. Ramirez would shift to 1st. Our offense and defense would be upgraded.
  8. also note that he's leaving CitiField and switching to Miller Park.
  9. reillymcshane, realize that article is from JSonline. Tom wrote it. I have no problem with his reporting, but many on here will feel it's not REALLY from BA

  11. we'd have huge wildcards for performance at 1b, 2b, SS, 3b, LF, and CF....so MVP2110, it might have the potential to be very good...or downright awful. 1b has the potential to be anywhere from terrible to avg, 2b could be slightly below avg to well above avg, ss and CF are just unknown because they've had 1 good year, could be terrible to well above avg, and Ramirez could get hurt.
  12. MNBrew, I'd take Mat Gamel in a heartbeat over Loney, and game is much cheaper. He'd likely hit for the same avg, similar obp, and more homers, all at a fraction of the cost
  13. yes. Also, Mark Mulder (who we almost signed 3 years ago) is attempting a comeback. I always like cheap flyers on former studs
  14. $4 million ??? that's such a low-ball offer. Seems that Seattle's offer was quite reasonable. I wonder if our budget is really tight? Too bad that Gindl, Weeks, and Scooter are all tiny. Moving one to first would at least be an option. But Weeks is scared covering first on every bunt, so that'd be potentially worse than princess over there
  15. how is taking more money short-sighted? Seems that's brilliance to me.
  16. As many might remember, I used to work in the Fall League on a team that featured James Loney. As I'm not employed in baseball, I have no problem talking about him. He was quite possibly my least favorite AFL'er, although Jarrod Saltalamacchia was right there with him. If they sign Loney I will root for the Brewers, but I will hope that he plays so poorly that we sign Yuni to replace him (although would prefer Branyan). Of the two being discussed on most websites, I'd take Moreland in a heartbeat. Although my two preferred scenarios: -sign Mat Gamel and offer him first chance at starting. With Halton, Rogers, and Morris, we have 3 AAA backups to buy us a year. -move the superathletic (but oft-injured) Braun to 1b, give Gindl RF, and look for another backup OF
  17. If I were the M's, I would heavily front-load this deal. Give him $35-40 million in 2014, $35-40 million in 2015, and then you're talking about 8 years @ $160-170 million.
  18. I would expect Cano to play for 2-3 years for the Mariners and then be traded--along with $25-35 million, to the Yankees, Blue Jays, Angels, Mets, Cubs or Rangers. One mistake that's commonly made on Brewerfan is that we assume that the team signing a player to a big contract will remain there for the entire contract, but that's often not the case. For instance, if the Yankees were to have 5-7 legit prospects, it's quite possible they'd be traded for Josh Hamilton, Albert Pujols, and $30-50 million.
  19. I'd love to sign Axford for 2 years and $5 million
  20. Smith is a high strikeout lefty as both a starter and reliever. I like the trade as it gives us a quality, young, cheap lefty
  21. Jaha had a lot more injuries than Hart (although not as easy to say with Hart missing '13). However, both were very athletic, powerful, very good defensively at 1b
  22. I really like both signings for the Twins. Both at a decent age, fair value, and durable.
  23. I thought that contract was fair a couple seasons ago, but I don't remember hearing his name last year
  24. would be huge to get Burgos and Fiers back as options for the rotation/pen. I've got my fingers crossed
  25. wow...didn't expect this giveaway
