  1. I could see I could see Hinton, Chavez, Shanks, and Narron as possibilities
  2. I'd be content with Nelson at 1b as part of a platoon. I'd love to find a RH hitting 1b/OF for the role. I hate to bring up old names, but looking at the success of guys like Tony Clark in a limited role makes me think that perhaps we could bring in Sexson for 200-250 at bats. Figuring a Sexson/Nelson platoon would make about $1 million, it'd produce likely a .250-.260 avg, 20-25 hr, and significantly better defense. Or even my longtime favorite, Mark Loretta. Loretta logging 100 at bats at 1st base and another 300 at the other spots would make sense.
  3. I don't see Sheets pitching for an NL team outside of the Brewers. He likely doesn't want to hit
  4. I don't see Sheets getting a multi year deal this offseason since he's coming off his 2nd torn muscle dealing with his pitching arm. It's possible, but I just don't see it happening.
  5. here we go fellas...I want a miniSD disks
  6. my uncle puzzled me with this one...has a manager ever been fired mid-season before, while 16 or more games over .500?
  7. I was looking at it as Weeks is a natural OF from college, and wouldn't have to worry about the plays that give him fits at 2b. By letting him focus on his offense and playing CF, we could find more of a Loretta/Hudson type to play 2b that can actually make good throws while giving the offense a different look. An XM radio interview from about a month ago really had me start thinking about this, when an expert pointed out that he's heard from no baseball folks outside of Milwaukee that Weeks is a legit 2b. In fact, many within Milwaukee's organization supposedly feel he's not a legit 2b.
  8. I think of Upton...a toolsy underachieving infielder whose offensive and defensive results failed to match his potential. Yet moving him to CF and his offense has improved while showing off his great speed and strong arm. If the Crew doesn't bring back Cameron, should the Crew consider moving Weeks to CF? I've tossed the idea around quite a bit in the last 2 months, but seeing Upton is making me think more seriously about it.
  9. It's good to see Palmisano back behind the plate, no longer DH'ing. He and Salome could split time in AAA next year, whereas Rottino likely makes the Brewers as a 25th man or becomes super-sub in AAA.
  10. this offseason he could use acquiring some AAA OF depth. Not necessarily studs, but guys in that Brady Clark, Tony Womack, etc mold that can do a little bit while not killing us.
  11. Al, $10 million a year for a mediocre player like Byrnes? His value is only slightly higher than Suppan's to a team
  12. I would anticipate Chad Tracy as a target. lefty hitter, decent at 3b, decent obp, line drive hitter with pop at times.
  13. of those mentioned, Bob Brenly intrigues me most. I'd still love Kevin Kennedy, though.
  14. The Fall League parks generally don't have operating radar guns, so it'll be hard for azcheesehead to tell. I was shocked seeing the Mets' Brian Stokes throwing 98 in those Sept games, as I remember him as the undrafted college player throwing 87 and grinding out games, usually following Jamie Shields to the hill. I may try to get to a game sometime. I'd love to see Salome and Green. As for Palmisano, there is a procedure that includes filling in on other teams. I think that when a player leaves the league, he is replaced by someone from the same organization. If the organization declines, another organization comprising that AFL squad can send a replacement. If they decline, then another player can be shuffled from a different AFL squad. Normally it doesn't happen till the last week of the season.
  15. interesting to see Palmisano on Mesa's squad.
  16. the teams find discount apartments through apartment complexes that are generally furnished and affordable. I also thought they provided a small (very small) living stipend, but I could be wrong. Generally, team trainers help make sure their players have places to stay, at least in the organization I have experience with
  17. I would imagine the locks are Periard, Rivas, Rogers, and Aguilar. The next tier would include Cain, David Johnson, Cate, and Mercedes.
  18. What about dealing Suppan for a guy that fits a need, like Beltre?
  19. BrewCrewIn2004....I don't like Seth at closer, or in the pen, because he needs the luxury of innings to work around his wildness. If he comes in for the 9th and has wildness, it costs the game. If he starts and works through it after 2 innings, he can be effective for several more.
  20. Gallardo also was throwing all summer. While it wasn't in game situations, he was keeping his arm strong. Because of that, I think he should be alright. We're used to having to be careful with pitchers off of arm injuries, but with Yo it was his legs. One lesson from CC Sabathia is that I would like to see the team start pitchers in April on 85 pitches. Instead of trying to get the starters ready for 100 pitches on April 1st, I'd rather they be ready for 100 by mid-May. CC's slow start had him VERY strong in Sept. It's like an extension of how Yost/Maddux were careful with Cordero and Torres in Spring Training.
  21. I'd re-sign Hardy long-term. When he was in the minors, I projected him as a Rich Aurellia-type player, and he's really coming through on that. I have questioned Hary at many times, mainly because early in his career he was very vocal in saying that he was not an "all-fields" hitter, but rather was a "pull" hitter. Yet when JJ turned his season around beginning in June, it was obvious that he was finally embracing an "all-fields" approach. If that's a true assessment, then I would look to sign him for 4-5 years, and be honest with him that he's being paid as a good all-around SS, but might be asked to move to 3b to improve the team.
  22. Russ, my only issue that I assumed Yo wasn't available on 3 days rest, hence why Suppan got the ball. It really stung to see Yo come into the game after him. Why was Suppan throwing when a much better alternative was available?
  23. I just wanted to start a thread for any Brewers' players, employees, or family members that might read this site....Thank you so very much for this year. It's hard to explain the emotions we've all felt, but I can personally remember going to sleep crying because the legislature had voted against building Miller Park. To go from that night as a teenager to this point as a 27-year old is a total 180. Thanks to all involved in this year's club. And of course, thanks to Brewerfan.net for giving many of us a place to vent frustrations and share exciting moments over the years. There are more good times ahead, and it's great to have so many virtual friends to share them with
  24. If Nelson can be a 25th man capable of playing 3b in a pinch, 1b, LF, and RF, I'd love to have his bat and eye. I'd consider him and Rottino for bench spots at this point, and I'd love to have Kapler back. With Hall and Rivera, that would cover 4 backups, leaving 1 possible slot for Counsell or another SS-capable backup
  25. Nate, first off, Weeks has a VERY strong arm. What kills him on the IF is footwork. Often some of his best throws include crow-hops as they usually are on cut-offs and relays. Secondly, Weeks was a CF in college, so it's not like Hall learning a completely new position. (edit: long quote --1992)
