  1. There are a number of ways the Brewers could accomplish the roster moves. Capuano and Branyan (assuming the comment about tearing the oblique is correct) to the 60-day DL would make sense. Outrighting Palmisano would also make sense.
  2. In terms of service time, my understanding is that being called up after Sept 1st counts as service time for Union purposes (ie, retirement pension plan) but for salary arbitration purposes the entire month counts for 1 day.
  3. last spring I was on a field trip to San Diego. While at SeaWorld on a 50 degree, windy, overcast, sometimes rainy day, I received the worst sun burn of my life and was blistering and peeling. I learned a lesson. the clear puss-like stuff was part of the burn, I guess
  4. Jim, calling up Salome wouldn't cause him to miss the AFL. Ryan Howard, among many others, has reported a few days late because of September callups.
  5. it might not hurt to call up Salome because he can hear from Yost and Simmons--along with Kendall--what he needs to work on
  6. Also, I noticed Jones threw for Huntsville. They liked him enough to have him take up roster space all year. He got to nearly 80 innings on the season without a major setback. Isn't it a bit sad this this is his healthiest season? Here's hoping his stuff is coming back
  7. based on the severity of last night's valleywide monsoon, I'll bet the AZ Brewers are cancelled, seeing as they don't pull the tarps in AZ very often.
  8. With Anundsen, he could also pitch like Dillard did at that level. When Dillard was making it to the 7th and 8th on like 75-80 pitches per game, it made sense why he racked up so many innings.
  9. the deadline for any PTBNL is 6 months from the trade. Additionally, we know that when the trade happened, Cleveland said they'd wait until after the season to decide...I assume they mean minor league season. I guess lots didn't catch that, hence why some are so frustrated
  10. I could see Gillespie being on the list, too. More advanced and refined. Less potential, but more likely to max out. Really, I don't view Green as a LH hitter, Louisly. I view him as a good hitter capable at 3b/2b, and I don't care about being rh/lh.
  11. This move makes sense because in the past the Brewers have promoted players to give them a taste of the level they are bound to repeat the next year
  12. I fully expect Escobar in the big leagues for a simple reason. If he is sent home after the season, and something happens to Hardy, then Escobar may not have been around baseball for a couple weeks. But having him in Milwaukee in case of an emergency makes sense. I'd love to see Brantley or Salome, but I'm not sure that'll happen since neither is on the 40 man roster. Of course, if either has to be added after this year, then it would make sense to add them in Sept.
  13. Would you feel comfortable sharing what the stomach condition is? Just sounds very familiar. Brian, this is attempt #2 cause the first time I accidentally hit the back arrow on the keyboard. Basically, her GI specialist has diagnosed her with gastroparesis. She kept being told , "well, this drug isn't working, so let's try something different and I'll see you in 6 weeks." In our first 4 months together she lost 55 pounds. When she ate, she got sick and threw up. So she often didn't eat. With gastroparesis there are two groups that are stricken. The vast majority are older diabetic women. The others are 25-35 year old women in their primes. The stomach basically stops working for no aparent reason. She also became unable to ingest dairy products. 2 of my college roomies are doctors (I'm 27 years old), and both felt that the gal bladder needed to come out since it was working roughly 33-40% less than it should have been. They figured that the pain from the gal bladder could have caused the nausea and kept her from eating, which would in turn have caused her body (with fewer nutrients) to slow stomach usage in order to reallocate its energies to more necessary processes. What drove me crazy was the doctor refusing to look at the gal bladder despite the test (a different doctor ordered her to have the test), the doctor telling her to "try (insert med) and come back in 6-8 weeks," and also that she wasn't willing to see a different doctor--one that might listen to her. The result is that she's likely causing irreparable damage to her body by being malnurished for about 13 months now. It also played a role in us breaking up this past May/June. Let me know if you want to hear more, as I am always available
  14. Scarpetta's peripheral numbers are awesome. less than a hit per inning, 3 bb, 21 k's in 12 innings. He'll be fun to follow in A-ball next year
  15. Brian, I've had three issues in recent years, so I hear ya. I'm not lucky enough to be married, though. My sis in law (one of my best friends) nearly died after complications from bleeding 8 weeks after giving birth to my niece. She kept telling them she had severe bleeding and they treated her like she was just another crazy person claiming the same old thing. My ex-girlfriend has been diagnosed with an extremely rare stomach condition yet her gal bladder shows very poor effectiveness. My friends that are doctors all recommended having the gal bladder out as it might be causing the stomach issue. Yet her doctors at Mayo (specialists in rare conditions) insist that while the gal bladder is working very poorly, it likely isn't the cause. And finally my mom--a former transplant patient--has gone to the ER complaining of things only to have the ER say that everything is fine. When her doctors later ordered certain tests, they confirmed her fears. So my biggest issue right now is simply doctors not listening to patients and not being concerned with finding solutions. It's as if they're taking the approach of "rub some dirt on it, you're fine."
  16. I am starting to think I might have made a mistake. I work at a middle school and took a job with the local high school to coach girls' golf. Well, I figured in a rather wealthy area of Scottsdale with 2300 kids at the school, I'd have a decent team. It turns out that I have a mere 4 golfers, 2 of whom are awful. Beyond that, the different bell schedules are making communication a logistical nightmare as I can't easily call meetings.
  17. I'm tired of Weeks at this point. He might become very good, but I think the offense and defense needs someone more like a Loretta. Weeks=Corey Patterson=Alex Escobar All overhyped prospects that could have changed the game.
  18. What bugs me with Fielder is his constant indecision on grounders to the right side. He sometimes takes his time and signals to the pitchers that he'll take it alone, only to have to sprint at the last second (see Gallardo injury). He is terrible with feeds to pitchers. And the most frustrating is that he doesn't bend for balls in the dirt. Sexson, despite being nearly a foot taller, used to have his right knee muddy each night from getting it down to be low for throws. Fielder doesn't bend for balls, and has terrible footwork near the bag. Fielder has great offense, but I've completely changed my view. I don't see myself ever defending his athleticism and defense ever again, because he's been ridiculously awful this season. I used to praise his potential defensively. I still think that one day he'll join Canseco's header on the highlight reels, as a routine throw from 3b or SS will miss his glove and hit him in the face.
  19. I see no reason that Sheets will stay in the NL. He can't hit, doesn't like to hit, and likely will take the money from an AL team. It's the same reason (or opposite) as to why I see Sabathia staying in the NL
  20. I have no issue with it tonight. My bigger concern is that our most trustworthy infielder has made two crucial errors in the last week. Sabathia will get tons of rest, and his tank might have just have had lots of pitches in it tonight. I have never had an issue with Ned's use of starters, as he has been extremely conservative with young pitchers, and is only going hard with Sheets and Sabathia. Also, I think 130 pitches in 9 innings is less taxing on the body than 100 pitches in 6 innings. One of the key stats we know the Brewers look at is pitches per inning.
  21. I went to a public school and my football team played your school in 99' and I didn't have disdain for you school. Some of your people did have that I am better then you mentality. And when your football has kicking nets and almost looks like a semi-pro football team there is gonna be some disdain. Also when your fans throw stuff at our band as they are on the other side of the track waiting to do the halftime show then ovbviously there is gonna be some animosity Trombone482...I never really felt any ill will from WAC. They beat us our senior year ('98-99) in football in the state tournament, I think, but that's one of the few games I've ever seen where I truly blame refs. I remember we had a successful onside kick (although we don't deserve to win if we needed an onside kick) that went 13 yards, hit a WAC player, bounced back and was recovered by MUHS, but the refs ruled it didn't go 10 yards and wasn't touched by the opponent. I only remember it because we had a really bad weekend sports-wise. For one thing, my Calc teacher was the AD and football coach and it was the only time all year that he mentioned sports in class (I was impressed), telling us that the team video was being sent in to WIAA. Secondly, a classmate was accused by Tosa East's volleyball coach of being mean and showing poor sportsmanship. It was crazy because the reporter only asked one team--Tosa East-- and never asked our school to comment on it. It was odd, because he was the best volleyball player in the state and strived to the the best. Yet by dominating and not going lightly he was openly criticized in the paper. The good news is that he's happy and a doctor. As I was saying, we had no issues at WAC. WAC ran that cool offense in football where nobody in the stands could tell who had the ball due to fake handoffs. Also, it might skew my opinion since WAC wasn't much of a threat to MUHS at the time in the big sports--basketball and football. I remember some great games at WAC, include one where I think our shooting guard hit a 40 footer at the buzzer to force OT. WAC had some good crowds for hoops, although I hated the fieldhouse.
  22. They did well for Dunn. I really like Owings. Dunn wasn't going to be offered arbitration because he likely would have accepted. The Reds had been looking for an opportunity to trade him for some time, but few were willing to take on Dunn's defense and massive salary. One other reason is that Dunn isn't as popular with GM's as he is with internet stats-gurus.
  23. I absolutely love the time period, but I also hate it at the same time. I hate that the first half of the class focuses on the US, while the second is more of "Western World." So the 7th graders get used to looking at America's internal strife, then suddenly are forced to look at the US interacting with the world. What makes it rough is that they had colonial history in 5th grade, so they've all forgotten it 1 1/2 years later. We started this past Monday, and I know my first 10 days will be teaching them skills and re-teaching them things they should have learned but can't remember.
  24. Marquette University High School Hilltoppers. I still wish MU would have gone back to that nickname. I graduated in '99. I miss WISAA, because of the rivalries, too. I think I really hated the disdain we got from most of the public schools in the conference. I grew up in public schools, then went to a private high school and college. Now I teach in a public school. But I'll never get why so many public school students/teachers/parents have deep-rooted resentment towards private schools. I don't get it, because I've known so many genuine people that strongly believe in community issues and care about the world that come from both private and public schools (although probably private school folks generally felt moreso that they could make an impact and change the world for the better), yet many ardent public school supporters will take every chance they can to criticize private schools. It really frustrates me hearing this, especially as a teacher.
