  1. nice, and I put $5 on the Crew to win when I saw they were the underdog
  2. well done Brian...nice free press. Ask if he has ever cruised the site
  3. I don't think Frazier ever hit one like that in the Fall League.
  4. I thought Webb was supposed to be the hottest pitcher in the Cactus League? Doesn't sound like it today. Glad the Crew is taking him to school. Has the Crew had one hard hit ball? Seems they're all fisted, blooped, seeing-eye singles, etc. Good hitting, but not hard hit balls.
  5. I'd still love to try to add Scott Hairston to the Brewers' system. He's a very good hitter and has played LF and 2b. I would assume he'd be an option at CF, RF, and possibly 3b, too, as a solid utility guy.
  6. Good matchup today, as two of the game's best #2 pitchers go today. Too bad the Dbacks refused to send us Webb in the early rumors. Would have made us even better by slotting Davis 3rd
  7. I was really excited when we signed Rivera, since he performed solidly in Detroit. Didn't realize Moeller was 30
  8. A lot of it really comes down to Rivera's overall skillset. Moeller is still likely going to wind up a better hitter than we've seen. He's also a better defender than most here give him credit for. I know some hate him because he calls for Ben Sheets' high fastball (of course, they ignore that the high fastball is--and always has been--Ben's best strikeout pitch). Really, I don't care how things work. I like the idea of having several competent catchers between AAA and the big leagues. Also, maybe someone can refresh my memory, but isn't Rivera a switch hitter?
  9. Brettac, didn't Moeller hit 7 last year? I remember being shocked at 3 or 4 games I was at when he hit opposite field jacks, all were clutch, as they brought us into games or gave us the lead for good. Also, this shows how much the Crew cares about winning in Spring training. They're sending most of their starters on the 2 hour busride to Tucson. Ned means business
  10. always amazing how in one inning Jorge can make us all cringe, and excite us with his potential.
  11. if someone were available in a waiver claim, or if a non-roster guy makes it, Hendrickson and possibly Krynzel might be DFA'd. Krynzel might get claimed, but it's doubtful that with 40 man rosters full, that Hendrickson would get claimed.
  12. agreed Scoop. Based on his comments this spring, he's finally learning. There was a stretch of 2 or 3 years in a row when Jenkins would show up to spring training and work on his own swing. Everyone would wonder why he was tinkering, since the last months of the previous years were usually his best months. Then he struggled to open the years, and finally got it going when he had an "ah ha" moment. I believe two years ago the moment was when he claimed he'd been watching JD Drew's swing, and noticed how still he was. So he went and stopped the movement in his swing, and finished strong. Then last year he went back to the bigger bat wave, and struggled. His leg kick threw off his timing. Then he admitted that he had to simplify his swing due to the injuries, and it worked. And now this spring he's openly talked about cutting down on the bat wave and the leg kick. I don't recall him ever "toning down" his swing in spring training, but rather usually making it more complex. This is a good sign.
  13. I have to believe we see Cruz up earlier than expected if Gross Flops how can Gross flop? He might get 100 at bats this year. He might get 20 starts. His job is to be a left-handed bat off the bench, and the emergency OF.
  14. nice start for the Crew, 2-0 through 2 batters
  15. rluzinski is correct. now here's a tough hypothetical: no outs, runners on the corners. The ultimate goal in a game is to win, which is accomplished by scoring runs, and limiting your opponents' runs. Early in a game, getting a run on the board can be nice. This would likely be accomplished in the 4-6-3 DP IF the runner breaks for home. With a strikeout, there is no chance of the run scoring, however, there's the chance that the next guy will do the job. At the same time, getting only one run in this situation early in the game can be a let down. However, later in the game, the DP might be preferred if the run scoring ties the game, gives the lead, or pads the lead.
  16. Is it becoming concerning that Weeks will have had only a few games next week before kicking off the regular season? This minor injury seems to be eating up his entire spring training no concern about his performance. My concern is that this is a muscle that can often lead to nagging injuries, much like a groin injury. Best to rest him now as long as it takes
  17. I miss watching Cappy pitch, settling into his groove throwing fastball in and changeup away to righties. You could always tell last year when he felt good, because he'd just show the two pitches to righties, and alternate them.
  18. Carlos Lee a late scratch, with a "twinge" in his groin, suffered on Sunday
  19. nice, maybe Gallardo and Inman get an inning
  20. I wonder if Sarfate might benefit from the Ben Sheets school of thought on pitching. Ben listened to everyone and learned to pitch, taking velocity off his fastball. But then after being in the big leagues for a few years, Ben realized his curve wasn't getting strikeouts, but rather foul balls. His fastball was getting groundball outs. So he decided to just start "dialing it up" on every pitch. Suddenly his heater was 95-97. It made the high fastball into his strikeout pitch. By adding the vertical dimension to pitching, suddenly Ben found that he could get big leaguers to chase his curveball down. So what I'm wondering is if Sarfate could benefit from throwing harder. We know it's been reported that he is "learning to pitch", but I wonder if we'll see a similar progression where he gets to the big leagues and is solid, then becomes dominant by dialing it up all the time.
  21. I'm now watching the Big East games...how's Sarfate doing?
  22. I'm pumped now...time to turn up the heat
  23. it seems like Eveland is struggling a bit like Hendrickson was last year. What happens if Sheets and Helling can't go on opening day? Would Hendrickson or Jackson hop into the rotation till one of them can come off the DL?
  24. also, forgot to mention Capellan. The guy threw significantly harder than every other pitcher today, including Kane Davis
