  1. Rydogg, it's important that Lee gets off to a nice start against the Cards. Last year he was 7-57 against them (.123) with 1 2b, no homers, and a mere 4 rbi in 16 games. His OBP was .175, slg was .140, and ops was .315. The only team he was worse against was the D-Rays, whom he went 1-13 against. Lee's lack of success hurt the Crew last year against the Cards, as they got him out at crucial moments in several games. If he had hit more like .280 against them, it's quite possible the Crew wins 1-3 more of those games.
  2. In all liklihood, Ned is just doing what he's done in the past. He's viewing April as a chance to get his main starters out there every day, thanks to the days off. Plus, no matter what is happening, people will complain about someone rotting on the bench. Capellan, Hart...who's next, Cirillo? In all likelihood, we won't see Corey starting a game until sometime next week. In the blowout yesterday, I wouldn't have minded him playing an inning defensively and getting an at bat, but Yost generally does a good job, so I'll trust him. I'm just giddy we don't have to suffer through Magruder this year.
  3. but those observations are usually more based on the result of the AB, not the actual AB. that's true. Yet Jenkins is in one of those streaks right now where a groundball out is progress. Like I've said, I'm hoping things will be better next series. Last year Lee was aweful against the Cardinals, so sometimes a team just as someone's number. As for the Pirates, you can credit them throwing two tough lefties. I just hope Jenkins starts hitting the ball, and hitting it hard, ASAP
  4. So is Mike Jones the 5th starter in BC?
  5. Jenkins, Clark, Fielder and Miller all have been terrible this year perhaps your opinion. But I view the latter two as having won games for the Crew. Like I tried to state before, Jenkins looks lost up there right now, but I'm not calling for a benching, trade, etc. I'm simply stating that he looks terrible up there, as he has in the past. He'll get it going. But perhaps a few days out of the 3-hole could help him. Clark has really surprised me. He's putting the ball in play, but they're all liners right at guys. Perhaps it's some tough luck. The high fastballs are giving him problems so far. The good news is that we all pretty much know he'll finish at around .280-.300, with a nice OBP. Actually, he managed to walk twice today, so that was a good sign. Hopefully we get a few guys hot on this trip
  6. never thought I'd be so disappointed at being 4 over .500. Good to get this one out of the way, and tomorrow the boys can regroup. Ohka vs Mulder to open the new Busch, and hopefully Hardy, Lee, and Koskie keep it up, while the others get it going. Tough road trip, but this loss might be what it takes to help us have a chance to win tomorrow.
  7. Dear in headlights? Jenkins looks exactly like he always does, IMO. Furthermore, despite a bad series, he's still batting .261. I ask you, why does everyone want to look for any excuse to ride Jenkins? First off, I made a mistake which you followed with. I meant "deer". It's one series, but it's rough when Jenkins has no chance before the at bat has begun. Jenkins is hitting .255 or so now, with an OPS of about .615 (guessing with the numbers, since the gametracker has stopped). I thought it was a good sign in Pitt when he had two or three topspin liners that just cleared infielders, as he usually uses the whole field well right before he gets hot. And it's not everyone who is riding him. Last year I was very vocal against him in the early going. Today is the first day where I've finally made comments about how terrible he looks at the plate. I know he'll get it going eventually. It'd just be nice if we had some other options for the 3-hole in the meantime. It'd be nice to drop him to 5th or 6th for a few days. Like I said before, it'd be nice if Clark, Jenkins, and Weeks have a nice roadtrip, or else the boys might return to Milwaukee in a hole.
  8. I'm not sure who wins Least Valuable player today...Weeks, Jenkins, or Clark Boy, I've been very good about not bashing Jenkins so far, but my patience is wearing thin. I sure hope he doesn't play tomorrow, because he has that same "dear in the headlights" look at the plate. Would be nice if Clark would get on base a bit more Would be nice if Weeks would stop doing his Belliard/Jose Hernandez impersonation by swinging at breaking balls in the dirt. Of course, it's just week 1, and we're 5-1. But with this road trip coming up, we could possibly be coming home below .500. Hopefully the offense gets going in week 2, while the pitching keeps going.
  9. great game here. Need to get through the inning, and then get Lee up there. Terrible job by Weeks there.
  10. The Brewers are smacking the ball around all over the place, but they can't get any of the hits down. Just might be one of those days. that's a rather generous comment Toby. It's like Harry Doyle declaring "hot shot to the hole" on the dribbler in Major League. Koskie has hit two balls hard. Clark probably had his hardest hit ball of the season, which doesn't say much so far. Jenking hit some fouls nicely. And Lee hit one about 385 to center. For the most part they're weak popups and flyouts, for those not watching.
  11. wow, that woman shreiking in the background on each pitch sure is annoying.
  12. So just like last year, when will fans (me included) begin demanding Jenkins be dropped in the order?
  13. Geoff just had his two best hacks of the year. Come on now, straighten it out
  14. Well, Vargas throwing 94 with movement where ever he wants. So far, on offspeed pitch for him, and Koskie ripped it for a single. He needs some mistakes
  15. Same thing I always say for Cappy and Davis, but when they allow few/no walks, they win
  16. gotta be tough for the Dbacks. You've lost the first two in the series. Now you face a former teammate and 18game winning in Capuano. It's a day game w/the awkward shadows. And it's the very first retro Sunday, against a team that is 5-0, and has two coaches who were part of Team Streak.
  17. I was just looking at Brewerfan.net's handy-dandy players' salaries page, and I can't help but notice that Lee, Ohka, and Kolb are potential free agents. With draft compensation still a part of the CBA (although a new one to be negotiated by December), there's the possibility that all three could leave through free agency. With good years, it'd seem likely that all three would be offered arbitration, but get lucrative multi-year deals elsewhere. Lee is obviously a type A, Ohka likely a type B or A, and Kolb could easily be a type B or A with a strong season. So if my math is correct, that means that if the others signed elsewhere, that would be a minimum of 4 extra picks, and the possibility of as many as extra picks. Assuming the Brewers wouldn't go budget picks like the A's did in the famed Moneyball draft, I was just wondering what the early indications are for the 2007 June Draft. Is it shaping up to be pitcher/hitter friendly? Are there any fast-risers (Zimmerman, Drew, Verlander, Street come to mind recently)? Is there enough depth that we could potentially having a draft to build a tremendous amount of depth? I'm sure you've thought of this Colby, hence why I ask
  18. Just saw it. Where was the mention? They said in a chat-room? I'll have to head over to the trade rumors forum to see if it was mentioned there
  19. Also, isn't Davis better against righties than lefties? That'd explain why he didn't fare as well against this lefty-dominant lineup.
  20. this could be a time to use the polls. It's a thread in an area where various topics aren't floating each day, so Poll threads wouldn't make the forum look chaotic.
  21. Detroit not on TV, but I've had the gametracker up. Verlander giving my fantasy team a nice boost tonight. He's at 89 pitches, 58 for strikes right now. Hopefully Leyland takes him out now, gives him a pat on the tushy, and a high five
  22. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's daily menu, which would likely feature Sarfate and Mike Jones, I think. Although I am enjoying following Eveland (if the game ever starts), Inman, and Gallardo
  23. As much as I want to say Lee, Fielder, or Jorge, I have to give a vote to JJ. With the 1 and 3 hitters doing very little this year so far, he's been the lone guy getting things started. Today he had 3 hits, and a 4th was crushed to dead center that Byrnes caught
  24. way to go JJ. Wow, I would much rather face Jenkins than Lee if I were the Dbacks.
  25. well, Tbow should be good to go for another week of games now. I feel good seeing Vizcaino out there
