  1. okay, so now I'm getting a bit worried about Hendrickson. Not too worried, just a bit worried
  2. I asked Huston Street if there are more Texas Leaguers in the Texas League, but he said he really didn't notice a difference. Just thought I'd mention that
  3. My understanding is I can get the xm feed through the internet as well. perhaps it will be a better feed that mlb.com beginning on I think April 1st, it'll be free. Until then I believe they charge a separate amount for the internet feed.
  4. Thanks Mass, that's awesome. I'm reading my notes, and here's some things that come to mind: 1) Hardy-- "One final thing to note...after one out, he was holding his left shoulder, but stayed in the game. Perhaps he tweaked it on the swing, but it appeared to be nothing serious." I guess that was his shoulder injury that caused him to miss most of 2004. "My first impression of Hardy is that he's for real. He has a classic batting stance, somewhat reminiscent of Jeff Cirillo in that he crouches a bit, with the bat very still. He took a lot of pitches and fouled off some tough ones" That's pretty much what I wrote the other day about his stance and approach. 2) Krynzel--"If I had to compare his stance to a current big leaguer, it would be Craig Counsell. Another one that came to mind was Brady Anderson. The keys to the comparisons were that David stands kind of upright and holds his bat vertically, not at more of a 45-degree angle." and "What really seems to limit him is his stance. Anyone who plays golf knows that the most important part of the swing is the setup, especially posture. If you don't give yourself a chance to succeed, you can't. It would seem that analogy works well here for David. He doesn't appear to get his legs or hips into his swing. Instead he relies solely on his hands and arms to both make contact and generate power, and it seems that his setup doesn't help" Basically, this is similar to what I thought I had written. Another name I would compare his old stance to is David Hulse. Now like Pods. I'll post a lengthier version of this soon in the MLB forum. Who knows, maybe I'll feel ambitious one night and make it a cover story
  5. Shoot, I can pop down there tomorrow and join for a game. Feed is terrible for me. And the winds are incredible here today. probably 40 mph, gusting well beyond that.
  6. Even if Hendrickson does pitch a good game awkward wording there. I should point out that he's allowed 5 ER and 6 hits in 4 innings thus far, however, all 5 runs came in the first start after a 2 out flyball hit 10 feet behind Magruder so him come running in 15 feet, stop, and run back only to see it hit and roll to the fence, clearing the bases. If Magruder catches that one (as many little leaguers would have), then Hendrickson has 0 ER.
  7. I see there are 20 pages in each forum...is that just my browser? I am wondering, because if anyone actually reads my posts, they'll notice I'm raving about how Krynzel's new stance is enabling him to be a much better player. I was wondering if it'd be possible to find my posts from the '03 Fall League when I first saw him just to show the comparison
  8. Does Al count twice? Or Toby? Or BillScottCanRake...whatever then (was it blazingwings?) and back. So in the spirit of Mr. 3000 (or Democratic lawyers in '00), I demand a recount! And, if need be, perhaps another recount. And then another one And another one and if it still shows 1500, then all it'll take is an edict from Brian...and one final recount
  9. I could be director of leisurely activities. Or perhaps the director of the Brewerfan.net Scouting Operations--Arizona Division (hey, it works for Laurel, right?)
  10. It was a really sloppy game, but I take some solace in the fact that most of the sloppiness was turned in by backups or fringe players. Some of the 'prospects' looked good at the plate - Hardy, Weeks, Hart, Nelson all did well. Couldn't have said it better, so I'll just add to it. About the sloppiness, I think I counted at least 7 balls on the warning track or at the wall that should have been caught but wound up as hits or errors. There were also another few that nearly got to the wall but were caught. One mistake was Hall trying to backhand a routine grounder to show off his arm. All he had to do was slide infront and sidearm to first. Another miscue was Magruder dropping yet another ball (he's terrible) when he got to the wall. We thought it was caught (maybe 20 feet from us, and were wondering why the runner was still advancing). Nelson and Krynzel met at the wall in leftcenter, but for some reason Krynzel yielded and Nelson saw it clank off his glove a step infront of the wall. David should always call off Nelson. Now for the positives...this is the first time I've seen Hart and Nelson actually drive the ball, both looked good. Hart has outstanding range, and went from 1st to 3rd awefully quickly on one. Krynzel killed the ball a few times...triple, poor bunt but he would have beat it even without the collision he's so fast. Smoked it his first time up but it was right to the 1b who was holding a runner on. Hardy looked great again at the plate. Jenkins looks more comfortable. Branyan absolutely laced his hits. Heck, even Moeller made contact. Also, some more good hit and runs. One was when Hardy slapped it through the 2b hole vacated when Hart ran, however, big mistake making the 3rd out at 2nd when it would have been 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs. Weeks stole second easily. Nelson butchered a long fly ball, but it seemed like everyone was having trouble. The sun is brutal at Maryvale - especially in right field in the late innings - and there was a pretty good wind blowing out as well. Actually, it's leftfield where the sun is bad. Hart misplayed one which caused Clark to make a pseudo-diving catch early on. Someone (Hardy?) was robbed when Cruz jr made a basket catch over his head on the warning track in rightcenter. Krynzel has a really good arm for a centerfielder. not sure if I noted this above, but his defense is everthing advertised and more. He's capable of catches like that highlight reel HR-theft last year EACH game. His arm is legit, almost threw out several guys. The third string catcher that was hit in the face rode past us on the golf cart and had a bump the size of a tennis ball on his cheek. Mosquera, the guy who impressed me with his bat speed, athleticism, and running speed earlier in camp. The Diamondbacks are in trouble this year. I won't say that yet. We saw what, 2 of their starting position players? 3 if you count Kata. Nice to see Corey Meyer his the jack...he's supposedly a great guy. Terrero on the other hand is notorious as being hated by his teammates. How many fights did he initiate in AAA last year? Too many! I love the story of him starting one by rounding the bases after hitting a homer, and kneeling at the plate and kissing it. Boy his teammates didn't want to bail him out in that brawl. Their lineup isn't bad on paper. Well, Clayton-Counsell worry me. But Tracy, Green, Cruz, Gonzo, Glaus, and the offensive minded rookie catchers should supply some punch--assuming Green, Gonzo, and Glaus are healthy. Kata and Cintron need to play quite a bit. It's also possible Tracy could play some second with Green at first if Terrero continues developing. Also, I should note that I don't think any pitcher in the game is likely to make the Dbacks staff. DHonks, I took a stroll around the fifth inning but didn't see you. Will you be there tomorrow? The 5th may be when I was at the concession stand...they had polishes and stadium sauce!!! And no pepsi products!!! I was basically about 50 feet fair in the RF corner, just about 15 feet behind the wall. Sorry, won't be there tomorrow. Got other stuff to do. One other note....I finally figure out who Krynzel's new-and-improved stance reminds me of....not Vina as I previously speculated...but it looks like a clone of Scotty Po. Wide base, bent nicely at the waist (aka, butt out), in a bit of a crouch. Looks much more like a linedrive stance than his previous stance which screamed of David Hulse. Finally, one note on Kiesch giving up a few runs. I think he was up in the bullpen for over an hour. He'd sit down, then get up, then just play catch for a bit. Also, Castro was working on some mechanics with him.
  11. I'll be at the game today. In a Beige bucket hat, blue/grey shorts, and a white Helena Brewers tshirt, sitting on the grass seats, so if you see me, feel free to say hi, homer. Doug
  12. exactly Toby. Also, gotta figure De La Rosa is on the attack. When I saw him last Friday, I liked his stuff and his delivery, but he appeared to nibble. With good stuff he should be saying "here it is, let's see you hit it"
  13. Got a little too fancy with Tomko, but owned the other three loopee, don't forget Tomko is one of the best hitting pitchers in the game. He, Ankiel, Maddux, Obermueller, Livian Hernandez, Prior, Wood, and a few others.
  14. I was at the Brewers-M's game, and here's my thoughts (didn't bring a pad and pen this time): -Fielder crushed that ball. Nobody saw it once it left the bat, and it missed a person's head by about a foot. -Hart hit two deep outs just shy of the track. Seemed like he handled breaking pitches and slower fastballs, but struggled with hard ones -Hardy looked great at the plate. Stands like Cirillo. His double to right center was great. As was his single to left -Capellan couldn't throw his fastball for strikes, but his offspeed pitches looked good. -Hendrickson threw everything for strikes today--much better than last time. -Narron was beaten by some nibbling. Walked a guy on a close one, then 2 singles and a double. -Cruz looks on the prowl when he's at bat. -Great defense by Hardy. He turned at least 2 hits into outs, and also kept several other crucial ones on the infield. -Brewers were aided by horrible seattle defense. Kiesch's double should have been a routine catch. -Mannon looks like Magruder. Heck, he looks better than Magruder. -Heether with a nice rip up the middle...I'm gonna get off his back. -Moss looks like Ginter at the plate -also, Capellan looks like a young Colon. Workhorse body. -JJ will do well this year. He's fundamentally sound, as evidenced by his fundamental approach at the plate. He had a runner on third with less than two outs, stepped up and put the bat on the ball with a chopper scoring the runner. -Kynzel and Spivey failed in moving runners over. Hardy leads off with a double. All Krynzel has to do is make contact and Hardy gets to 3rd. But he and Spivey strike out. Go from 2nd with nobody out to 2nd and 2 outs. Terrible execution
  15. although I would have thought the pitcher moving into the field bats for the position player, not the DH. The way I'm reading the Rule is this: Lee in Left hitting 4th, Kiesch pitching, Fielder DH batting 6th. Kiesch going into the game to play LF, so he enters playing LF, batting 6th. The new pitcher enters batting 4th. The DH is now out of play.
  16. Mosquera with a nice RBI rip. He and Borders are battling it out for "old guy catcher who rips 20 year old pitchers in ST". brettac, not sure Mosquera's age, but he gets down the line like a CF or SS, not a catcher
  17. rules question here. Kiesch is pitching. If he were to go out and play LF, the DH would still exist, right? I guess I've never thought of what happens when the person DH'd for goes into the game.
  18. wow, E. Cruz! These Latin players rock
  19. Atlanta won today, need to win to keep tied for the NL's best spring training record.
  20. so De La Rosa showing a good changeup today and we know he has a good fastball and a good curve. Sounds impressive
  21. just curious, is Ryan Anderson still in baseball?
  22. I think he's best for the pen for this year. Figure that as of now it's likely our 3-4-5 are some combination of Capuano, Hendrickson, and Santos. Santos likely won't be back in 2006. One of the others could flop, and then there's Capellan, Sarfate, Housman, Parra, Eveland, etc who could all be ready for a back of the rotation or bullpen spot in 2006.
  23. Magruder LF/RF/CF I really am sick of Magruder. He looked poor in his stint in Milwaukee last year. Then on Friday he made two errors that accounted for 6-7 of Oakland's 8 runs. Not saying he's terrible, but say he's look aweful whenever I've seen him play. On a side note, he did have two nice hits on Friday, but no way you can overlook the mistakes defensively
  24. gotta say I enjoy Bill and Darron on the radio. Bill's insight is much better when we're not obviously seeing what he's describing
  25. I think as of now I'm expecting Nelson and Cruz to be regulars in the big leagues, with Hart being a 4th OF type who seems to play on nearly every team in his career. Not sure why I feel that way, though.
