  1. my daily email update from baseballamerica shows Hardy went 2-4 with 2 runs scored yesterday, to up his avg to .200. He also struck out twice
  2. lend, I may be mistaken, but I was told by a friend who works in minor league baseball that they get something like $2-5k a month. That may be for AA and AAA though. A guy on the 40 man gets significantly more. I think the first year guy gets a boost to something like 40k, then a 2nd year guy gets another increase, and a 3rd year guy can make up near 100k. So a guy making $5k per month would make $25,000 before offseason living expenses, two mortgages for half a season, and paying for his wife and children. And that was the high end. a player making $800 a month (as you mentioned) is looking at $4,000 for the year. I heard that the Fall League guys got something like $5-7k for the 6-7 weeks. I could be way off with this stuff though. Just going on what I've heard.
  3. I think DHonks has missed that "Est. 2001" heading at the top of every Brewerfan page that confused me Mass (and yes, I did miss it) but the way I remembered it was that there was much debate here when we dealt him, which was I believe in 2000. So I did think about that, but it threw me off. I could be way off though. Maybe we were still discussing the Vina-Belliard issue long after Vina was dealtb
  4. I was active in the AOL boards with several others, but then AOL started messing with their powers/rights and really took away a solid board. I'd heard of brewerfan.net from Powell since it was founded, and decided to switch on over when I realized that there were so many other fanatics like me. I think I began here back in 1999, because I'm pretty sure the Vina-Belliard debates were raging
  5. but I doubt any of the Americans make any more per month than they do in the minors. If they make as much, then they're doing fine. 6 weeks for about $5-7k is huge when they're normally living on about $20-25k (before taxes)
  6. and with so many DFE candidates, we should have the money available if one or two are of the caliber of Parra or Eveland
  7. Mass, I guess what happens is that the teams can have unlimited rosters, but each day they must submit a list of guys who will be elligible. I think it's like 27 or 32 per day
  8. it sure would add a lot more excitement to the games!
  9. the area of concern in the latin leagues, from what I've heard, is that if a team loses, it's common for players to be threatened, brawls to break out, etc. As one person put it, it makes sense that Izzy kicked the catcher in the minors, because in winterball, if you go for the pitcher, the catcher might have a knife on him, so you take him out first
  10. I want to stay away from the Rice trio at all costs...all seem to be doomed for arm problems. Verlander is a maybe.
  11. rumor has it that the Dbacks do not intend to sign Drew anymore
  12. I would expect $6 million at the lowest. But I would also think a 3yr $27 million deal isn't out of the question
  13. RoCo that's brutal. Keith is one of the best fast ball hitters around. There are enough bad pitchers in MLB where he will get those straight heaters. he's also shown this year to be as good at hitting breaking pitches as such current and former Brewers' greats as Jeffrey Hammonds, Marquis Grissom, Ronnie Belliard, Henry Blanco, Wes Helms, Bill Hall, Geoff Jenkins, and Chad Moeller. Strange, cause for 2.5 months he didn't get straight heaters, but struck out repeatedly on 3 consecutive breaking pitches away.
  14. haven't they paired them before?
  15. Kolb is looking like a $1.5 million closer, and I'd pay him that. But I'd want him to resurrect that slider/slurve from last year, and consider adding a splitter. Being a one-pitch pitcher is hurting him
  16. first off, I don't agree with the decision. But what I hope is that the Crew doesn't consider him an option next year. I really can't stand the mechanics he showed in the scouting video. Really makes me think he'll never see the big leagues
  17. So, wasting a good defender like Dave in RF (similar to the mariners with Ichiro this year) is frustrating to me. But wait, isn't Winn playing CF for the M's? He's known as an outstanding defender. He has great speed. I was a big advocate of us acquiring him back in the offseason of '01-02.
  18. Joe, a big reason is that Pods has a weak arm for right field. Another reason is that Pods is a CF, therefore he doesn't see balls with lots of slice/hook. Krynzel is the superior defenders and is most capable of playing a very good RF. Plus, since Jenks doesn't have much range, Krynzel can in effect play in Rightcenter, leaving Pods shaded towards left
  19. are there any Ginter haters? There's those who feel he's best as a supersub playing 3-5 days a week, and there's those who feel he deserves 600 at bats.
  20. don't forget, the Dbacks have several AA players in their lineup, so it's not fair to call it a AAA lineup.
  21. was at the game tonight. Sheets looked very good. If not for Helms' error, it would have been 1-1.
  22. anyone else having to log in every time they want to click on the boards, just so that the posts are in order of most recent? This started today for me
  23. way to go David...2 hits, a walk, and he's seeing lots of pitches. Oh, and playing a good RF, too
  24. speaking of Ginter, when did he remember how to drive a ball? After watching him flail at the ball for much of the year, he's really been hitting the ball hard in the last 3 or so weeks. Maybe it's something mechanical, because he's not pulling off of everything. Either that, or he's just not getting lots of breaking balls on the outer half anymore
