wow, Jenkins' ball just inside the line. Anyone notice how many of those we've had JUST foul lately? I think each time Overbay and Jenkins came up last week with runners on, they would hit one that the announcers thought was a fair ball and was called foul. Then they'd strike out. Good to see one just stay fair. Come on boys, get hot.
still, it requires Grabowski to hit a ball that was nearly in the dirt to tie the game. I feel good about our chances the rest of the trip, just need to find a way to get 4 runs a game.
BTW, any reason Kieschneck wasn't used with a man on? depends on how you view it. Which is your best chance for a hit off Gagne, a hard-swinger or a slapper who is comfortable w/2 strikes. I guess I could argue for either.
Why did he throw that home? Clark sux. Gotta agree there homer, but even then Clark's throw was perfect and Moeller blocked the plate...all that didn't happen was catching the ball. If Moeller catches it, LoDuca's out. Also, while Kolb's pitches aren't great, gotta give some props to the Dodgers hitters' and their great approaches. A broken bat single, a liner just past SS, a soft fly to left and a liner to right. If they try for homers, the game's over
These Johnny Wholestaff days have been pretty sweet, though, no? Maybe we should go with like a 17 man pitching staff, and have several days a week being pitched Johnny and his brothers
Nice to see Kinney continue his improved pitching. Not the best outing in the world, but two scoreless innings are two scoreless innings. Hopefully he'll find a comfort zone in a relief role and can become a productive setup man or closer. definitely batman. He just looks so confident--almost pissed-- out there now. He comes in and just lets it fly. David Weathers II? And FVBrewerfan, Sheets goes tomorrow and Sunday on this trip
Interesting to use Eveland for only a bit in one game, rather than starting in the other. Gotta wonder if for some reason they have him pegged to go an inning or so in the next one. Also great to see Murray with another multi-hit game. Is that two or three recently? Unfortunately this time Moss didn't also have a good game
so do we play Clark tomorrow instead of Jenks? I guess we could throw Ginter in the OF and play Hall (in case of injury, they just slide around). Option 3 is Kieschnick of course. Although that one game last year in left wasn't pretty. No matter what, you can't win when your 2 and 3 hitters go 6-9 and are supported by your 4 and 5 hitters going 0-9. Jenks needs to drop in the lineup. Perhaps Hall or Spivey cleanup tomorrow
How were the Crew's three runs in the 2nd unearned? Pretty simple. the Ginter ball should have been the 2nd out, and Spivey got to 2nd on it (should have been out). Then Bennett struck out, so the inning should have been over. With Obermueller's hit, the inning should already have been over.
35 HR's in 243 innings Kind of high, isn't that? I would project him as a #3 starter at best We'll see Al. I guess I have never been all that impressed by his numbers, so I have always had him as winding up (at best) as a #5 starter or short reliever. Of course, if he began throwing in the 90's by joining the bullpen, a setup role wouldn't be out of the question.
I should note - even in a slump, Scotty Podsednik is getting on base once a game Well, he hasn't been striking out. Last night was a rare multiple strikeout game. Pods has been putting it in play, they just haven't been falling. And most of the balls he's hit into the gap have been run down on very good plays.
Can anyone tell me why Sheets wouldn't be bunting? well, he was slashing. Perhaps the Dodgers charge really hard on bunts, and wanted to try catching them off-guard
Also, high strike 3's called to Overbay and Bradley. It appears Sheets has fixed what he was doing wrong mechanically, as he's now locating the heater and has a sharp 12-6 spin working now
Wow, they just showed a different angle--from the press box or around there-- for the ball Jenkins his 75 feet, and it was about 18" inside. I don't think it's possible for a righty to get a ball to come back to the plate THAT much. Not sure what Geoff was thinking
After the past few days, they need more than 6 from him. so who is available? Gotta figure that Kieschnick, Vizcaino, Kolb, Burba, and Wise. Bennett, Kinney, and Adams might not be available, but I don't know for sure
Ben's command isn't there yet. He's also using his curve more than he has recently, and not locating it well thus far. It also seems to be more of a 1-7 spin today rather than his usual 12-6
