The Brewers are in such good financial shape that they should consider this. Giving him more money upfront and less down the road. That would make him more likely to accept a long-term deal.
Montero is a terrific teammate (one of the best I've been around), handles a pitching staff well, and good defensively. Vogt is nice on offense, but hasn't he always been a DH that can sub-adequately play C or 1b?
The draft used to be 50 rounds, and more than that 25 years ago. So this is just adding some players they like to the system. Sometimes undrafted guys work out. Elliot Johnson made it to the big despite being a rare undrafted free agent from HS. His Fall League teammate Stokes (can't remember first name) was also undrafted. Vinny Rottino made it. I also get the feeling from the way the draft went that we may only sign 20-25 picks this year
Interesting all the size. Lots of it. But it also sounds like lots of guys that could potentially increase their velocity as they get into the minors. I like that better than guys like Arnett who lose velocity
Not difficult to be worried about someone who can never/ever repeat a delivery. what a ridiculous comment. He's 18 and learning. That's what the minors are for. Randy Johnson had inconsistent mechanics his first several big league seasons. Weren't JM Gold and Mike Jones known for their clean, effortless deliveries? Mark Rogers' athleticism as a 4-sport letter winner were supposed to help him repeat his mechanics and avoid injuries.
it's a generous listing for him to be 5'10". I remember Curtis Leskanic was listed at like 6'0" 200 lbs, and when next to him he was actually 5'9" and 170 lbs (roughly)
Hader and Lopez and the perfect types of guys to apply the Cardinals approach with. They have great stuff but need to learn to attack and finish hitters. I'd love them in the bullpen come August if we're contending, with opportunities to start in 2018 or 19. I've long wanted this for Peralta
homer, I agree. When did they start calling them graduation? Now a kid graduates pre-school, grade school, and middle school before the ones that actually matter
What's incredible is Jansen is throwing it 94-96. Also equally incredible is how he lived at the top of the zone with a lot of the pitches (even some called strikes) clearly being above the zone. Nobody seemingly gets calls at the top of the zone...but he did. Shaw was put on the defensive in that last at bat when he started 0-1 on a ball.
I don't care about Broxton's K rate. I would like to see him get the avg up a bit and return to drawing walks. I don't know if Brinson can match Broxton's production.
minor league fields are hard to use as comps. Brandon Webb had terrible minor league ERA's, then won a Cy Young. Plus minor league scorers aren't big league for a reason.
