  1. I wasn't upset we traded for Hill. I felt as though he was never going to play a day for the Brewers, getting released out of spring training. I was intrigued by Diaz. I was really shocked that we wanted Anderson. He wasn't good in Arizona, and he was simply taking Davis's spot to open the season. I really liked Wagner in the minors and was worried about losing him.
  2. Seeing himnin Sept, his velocity seemed down 2-4 mph from last year
  3. adambr2, didn't Villar outperform most 3b and 2b last year? His bat plays fine everywhere if he matches 2016 and doesn't improve one bit. and Madthinker88, is that a joke? a light-hitting, low-power, no walk hitter? He makes Hernan Perez and Scooter look like stars.
  4. Until we find another capable 3b, I'd happily keep Scooter at 2b and Villar at 3b.
  5. To defend Scooter, he's cheap, left-handed batting, has developing power, improving defensively, and entering the prime years of his career. Our priorities this season are to solve 3b, 1b (retain Carter?), and find some more cheap expendable bullpen pieces. Perez isn't an option as a starter. Scooter balances the lineup as well. If Weeks had panned out longer, Scooter might just be getting to the bigs and we'd be enthused about his numbers. I'm not a big Scooter fan, but he definitely has value in an organization devoid of impact infield talent.
  6. When I worked in the AFL, there was a lot of sentiment from employees and scouts that had Michael Jordan stuck with baseball, he possibly could have made the big leagues. For his brief stint, he jumped straight into AA, showed a good eye, and improved as the season went on. I'll wait and pass judgement for Tebow. Pretty neat to be able to try to live his dreams multiple times
  7. Is bear expensive at Miller Park? Last time I was in Milwaukee you could still visit the Leiny's Lodge for $4.50 pours. That compared to $8-10 beers at every other ballpark I'd been to. I figured Milwaukee had to have affordable stadium beer prices due to the competition from people tailgating. Glad to see they're taking my idea of a custard stand....seemingly 15 years late. Can't believe there's no Gilles, Kopps, or even Culvers branded location
  8. Hard to tell. At this point Stearns may choose to hold onto cheap players with high value like Guerra or Villar. Or he may try to test the market for them. If they bring the same guys back, I can see this team being around the same in 2017.
  9. I'll get to a game when I visit my friend that works at Wake. I think we should corner the market on best named teams...Shuckers, Mudcats, timberrattlers.
  10. I still contend that Brewerfan.net should formally change .200 to the Uecker Line, due to his career average.
  11. MrTPlush, the open-roof is the reason the grass grows. The grass gets lots of sun throughout the day. The glass panels help give us an airy feeling, but I'm not sure they have any effect on the grass growing as the roof panels and sun angles rarely allow direct light to pour in the panels behind 1st and 3rd except in late afternoon
  12. I would not think A/C. I remember hearing from an insider that Miller Park has the capabilities as the proper systems and ventilation were installed during building. The challenge is how do they pull that much moisture and warm air out of that much volume of air, especially given that the roof doesn't seal. I remember hearing it cost $10,000 to open and close the roof each time. For a 10 game home stand in summer, the cost could be over a million dollars. Baseball is meant to be played outside. One thing that would be nice would be if some of the windows behind 1st and 3rd base could be opened to allow for proper cross-ventilation. Additionally, finally tinting the glass would be huge.
  13. My friends in Wisconsin have all had annual raises of over 3.5% every year of their careers. That's a hell of an automatic pay raise. I love teaching and coaching, and enjoy what comes with it. I just have a hard time listening to complaining when they have a pretty good situation. Yes, Arizona is particularly tough on us, but that's also part of my complaint with the current system. Many states will not honor or match my teaching credential. It's amazing that public universities and unions have created stupid policies/rules that prevent teachers from moving across the country and finding jobs.
  14. Maddux threw in the low-to-mid 90s for much of his career. People labeled him as a soft tosser because of his ability to move the ball and expand the strike zone, as that's what they expect of a soft-tosser.
  15. In Arizona our teachers begin at $35,000 in most districts. Getting a masters is a minimal pay increase, and actually results in losing money for 8 years before getting ahead. Some of my friends couldn't find teaching jobs in Wisco and looked elsewhere, because there were too few teachers retiring when they reached retirement age. Don't get me wrong, I hope Wisconsin teachers never have it like we do in Arizona, but they never realized how fortunate they were--and continue to be. I have friends there in their early 30s making far more than I could make if I were to have 25 years of experience, 3 Masters degrees, Nationally Board Certified, and coach 3 varsity sports. In my district, a teacher cannot make $50,000. When my friends complained about going from $60,000 (but contributing nothing to their pension) at age 30 to making $63,000 at age 31 (with 50% contribution to pension), I understood they felt wronged and had to budget differently. I currently have one friend in rural Wisconsin teaching 90 middle schoolers and making $85,000 with--as her husband calls it--the absolute best health care package anywhere. Good for her, and she's never complained, too. edited to sound less political.
  16. Clancy, it was all the injury. He was never the same afterwards, and eventually converted to a side-armer
  17. Found a list of tragedy. Includes Thurmon Munson, Darryl Kile, Roberto Clemente, and several recent players I hadn't realized died (joe Kennedy, Tommy hunter, and Geremi Gonzalez). What a tragedy. As Funketown mentioned, he was amazing. I hope the Hall finds a way to honor his career.
  18. Wow, such an amazing young pitcher. Arguably the game's best pitcher. When was the last time we lost such a star?? Adenhart was a young talented guy. About 20-25 years ago the Indians had the boating tragedy.
  19. it was also fun to hope he could be a good hitting pitcher since we initially drafted him as a catcher.
  20. MrTPlush, although Dillard was a 2-pitch guy, a 95-mph extreme power sinker and solid slider made him a tremendous prospect for either starting or relieving. His GO:FO was very good. The thing that killed his career seems to be the broken hand
  21. Adam, I would think the Brewers weren't actively shopping Lucroy. They were likely actively listening to offers. shopping someone seems to imply the Brewers were seeming desperate by trying to initiate all sorts of possibilities. Instead we wanted teams to come at us with their best offers
  22. My comment is that it sure seems like this season, the Brewers have made a number of challenges that look clear-cut, yet have not gotten their way. Opponents have had much better success with even less visual evidence. And I'm not the typical "blame the ref/ump" type person, it just seems that replay has not been our friend this season
  23. Not sure our record on replay reviews, but it sure seems like we have a lot of seemingly clear-cut reviews that are denied or not deemed inconclusive. I don't know what the replay officials saw tonight, but Villar was safe from all angles. Since school and golf started 7 weeks ago, I haven't been able to watch as many games. But it sure seems that we've gotten screwed on seemingly simple reviews this season. Am I wrong with this observation?
  24. Woah...I have vivid memories of this one. Edwin Nunez clawed/suckerpunched BJ Surhoff, right? I guess I should check the video out
  25. Outlander, a bullpen session could occur in the late innings or simply following the game. The way I think of it is that sometimes guys need to get their work in to simply work on things. But for pitchers trying to stay sharp, what could be better than in-game outings.
