  1. Just curious, but with Smith's knee require offseason surgery or reconstruction? ACL's generally don't heal, but MCL's may heal. Not sure about his
  2. I also think I remember it happening with Dave Fleming in the 90s
  3. Maddon did this about 2 weeks ago when he used 3 pitchers in LF. Instead of burning a lefty, then righty, then lefty, he instead was able to do it with one lefty
  4. Crazy thought given I mentioned Fryer earlier. But, if we deal Lucroy, why not try to acquire him? He's had a solid track-record, but has bounced around a lot. Maybe he just needs a chance
  5. Boomer, we draft more than 2 catchers every year. Only 2 have panned out in recent years and they were from the same draft--Lucroy and Fryer
  6. I'm still holding out hopes for a miracle playoff push. Win today, and have another good week and .500 is within reach.
  7. To me a contingency would be like what happened in the Sabathia's trade. Lucroy helps Cleveland make the playoffs and we get a 4th player.
  8. Adam, I wasn't trying to advocate holding him. I was trying to refute the argument that dealing him now will most definitely earn a bigger return than later. I'm willing to listen on JJ.
  9. Thanks Toby. I really was excited by his numbers last year. He's been a guy that has thrived since moving to relief.
  10. If he builds a longer track-record and improves his K-rate, his demand could go significantly higher as an elite closer.
  11. TheCrew, I was about to mention Kohlscheen. Not sure of his stuff, but he's having a career year with extreme strikeout numbers. A new pitch maybe??
  12. I think people here (and in other threads) are using revisionist history. Within one year of being drafted, Laporta was been seen as a sure-fire major leaguer, somewhere between solid contributor and longterm starter. He wasn't going to be Rafael Palmeiro, but more like a Richie Sexson. He had a low floor, and fairly high ceiling. The problem is that Laporta's injuries sidetracked that projection.
  13. My favorite was when the Japanese paparazzi had a bounty on a nude photo of him. Uecker had a hilarious story in which he claimed Ichiro had personally signed a nude photo for him, and he wasn't going to give it up.
  14. Braun doesn't have that type of value, unless those 5 players aren't very good players And why doesn't he? He's an all-star, outperforming his affordable contract, comes with years of future team co tell, and a great presence in the community. Carlos Gomez was a far lesser player with an uncertain contract and limited history of achievement, and he netted us 4 very good prospects.
  15. I thought it was terrible at the time as I really liked Haniger and thought Banda seemed promising. Parra definitely outperformed expectations as he wasn't really a necessary addition. However we now have Davies thanks to the deal.
  16. There's no minor leaguer that I would trade Lucroy or Braun for. At a minimum I would want 3 players for each. For Braun I'd want more like 5 players for him
  17. So, do the Brewers have any plans for Brooks Hall? Seems like he bounces around a lot from pen to rotation. He used to be one of our most promising starters.
  18. I still don't think of Braun as sketchy or a risk. I envision him easily outperforming his contract and leading us to the playoffs as the 2nd wild card in 2017.
  19. I missed the Braun strikeout looking on Gameday. Was it a strike or a generous call?
  20. if catchers assume everyone abides by the aforementioned rules, they'll get lax. That's the best time to steal 3rd. I remember about 10-12 years ago hearing that Chip Hale loved having guys steal 3rd in the minors with 2 outs, because the catcher was often taken by surprise and threw the ball into the outfield corner, resulting in a run.
  21. Just to chime in here. As a teacher, I work in a profession where there is no such thing as innocent. If an allegation comes against us, we are guilty. We may be found innocent in the courts, but we lose our jobs and in the public's eyes we are all guilty. I know of teachers whose careers have been ruined by false accusations. Having said that, I always am eager when my name is called every 24 months for Jury Duty. I've never had to serve, but I really want to do my best one day as a juror--listening to the evidence and the arguments and deciding for myself. I see people rush to judgement in all sorts of these cases, especially dealing with socioeconomic or racial issues, and I can't help but think "if I'm ever falsely accused of something, I hope I get rational, sensible jurors that hear my case." I'm eager to one day do my civic duty. It's not for me to judge Kang's guilt. It may not initially look good, but hopefully a thorough investigation is able to reveal the facts.
  22. It's better than how the home-field advantage was determined previously.
