  1. I've always liked the idea of starters throwing relief innings rather than bullpen sessions. With a 6-man rotation, the starter could start day 1, be available for an inning of relief day 4 or possibly day 5 if not too many pitches.
  2. Greenleaf1, We've seen enough Alex Escobar can't miss prospects that I'm not sold on Brinson or Phillips or others. I'm really excited by their potential, but I'm not ready to move people around because of them yet. If the Brewers feel they are ready next year, or if they feel Wren could put up a .400 OBP, I'd consider makings moves of someone to 1b. But for now Carter is a great cheap option that will finish with 40 HR this year. He's doing as expected, only his OBP is lower than anticipated. I'd love to look at AA/AAA 1b options, or guys that are blocked to trade one of our OF prospects.
  3. I'd love to see Broxton get some time in Winter Ball to ensure he's had swings before the season. Nice finish to the year though
  4. I've heard plenty of stories in Arizona about Curt Schilling. The media loved his golden-boy status, but the teams didn't like his antics.
  5. I still stand by my Nelson Cruz comp. Tremendous power, nice eye, decent OF (can play passable CF), low-to-mid batting average. Only he's developing at an earlier age than Cruz
  6. wow, fun to think back. I was a crazy college kid in California who loved the Brewers. I remember going to High Desert games in San Jose, getting sunburnt, and talking with the play-by-play guy (was it Mike Linskog?) in the booth. I remember having to wait for boxscores to post to usatoday.com late each night in order to see how guys did. There were no live updates for the minor leagues. I remember falling for the future rotation of JM Gold, Nick Neugebauer, Paul Stewart, Ryan Poe, Jose Mieses, and many more.
  7. In spring we were hearing about a revitalized Garza. He probably joined the rotation too soon. I really felt that garza could have had a great bounce back year had it not been for the injury. I think he's tradeable.
  8. MrTPlush, In fairness, that's how most of your early season posts were. You loved to argue with people and pick fights, often sounding condescending. i feel as though--from an observer--your posts/contributions have grown dramatically over the season from unreadable to enjoyable. Not really anything to this thread here, but just wanted to point that out. I thought Santana played a passable CF last year and solid RF, but his evaluation is incomplete for obvious reasons. If he is willing to move to first, I'd entertain the thought. I'm still holding out hope for a Nelson Cruz-like breakout.
  9. For future reference you are more likely to get a warning if you accept what you did. Excuses are just wasting their time and it is probably something they have heard a million times before. Of course he might have made up his mind before getting out of his car, but there is always hope. Not for me. With this--and my other ticket (when I was 16)--I was honest and admitted. I openly admitted to speeding, and stated that I felt unsafe traveling 10mph in heavy traffic, and was just utilizing the passing zone to get around the bad drivers. But MrTPlush, I was fully honest. The only time I ever got a warning was in Ripon when I truly was ignorant that the 25 zone hadn't yet bumped to a 35, despite the sign being just a little infront of me. When I spoke with the SRO at my school, he complained how he'd gotten pulled over in similar fashion on that drive. It's just a speed trap on the way to Vegas.
  10. That's how I got my 2nd (and last) ticket. I was driving from Scottsdale to Las Vegas about 4 years ago. We were in the stretch where it was 1-lane each way, 65mph past Wickenberg. We were varying from 55-60mph for quite a long ways, I was the 6th car. We got the passing lane (3rd lane), and instantly cars 3 and 4 gunned it and flew out of sight past the 2 slow pokes. The car infront and I sped up to pass, but so did the slow-pokes, as they hit 70+ for the first time. Running out of room before the lane ended, I opted to follow the 5th car and whiz by. Immediately upon passing I took my foot off the petal to get back to 5-7mph over. Sure enough, Highway Patrol was several hundred yards ahead driving at me, and my radar detector went crazy. By the time we were passing each other, I was only about 7-8 over. He then flipped a u-turn in a busy highway, passed several cars in stretch with 1-lane each way, forced his way between me and the car behind me (barely a car length), then flashed his lights on to pull me over in a stretch with no shoulder. He gave me a ticket for 15 over. I tried politely justifying my case that I was just trying to get around some cars that were a safety hazard on the road, but it basically came down to "were you speeding?" He seemed shocked when I'd never heard of driver school (to get a ticket removed from a record), so I think he was guessing I was a frequent violator. Great way to start a trip to Vegas, down $250.
  11. Well the Sea Cows haven't won a game since this was posted, but tonight's game was CANCELLED and will not be made up! And with that the Manatees avoid losing 100 games in their final season in Brevard County. Reminds me of the excitement at my school last year. The high school football team hit an all-time low by going 0-11 (I think). Then 2 weeks after the season, it was announced the last opponent used an illegal player, meaning that we finished 1-10. Students were definitely not above winning on a technicality.
  12. some positives this year: -Jungmann and Lopez seemed to stop their bleeding at AA. Maybe they learned some things that can help in 2017 -Orf, Wren, and Segovia have been fun to follow.
  13. The way he acted and basically accused other's of botching the test he took when caught.. While other players have claimed ignorance as to how they took a banned substance, Braun went after a person... That's kind of funny. Talk to a lawyer. They're tell you to deny any accusation until the evidence proves you guilty. Let's look at what we know (or suspect). Braun took a product to help him recover from the really bad groin injury. The product helped him get on the field, and he likely was under the impression it would not show up on a test. Other Brewers reportedly also had unusually high tests that day, including Prince Fielder (though not high enough to trigger a red flag). There was a chain of custody issue. Braun and his representatives' jobs was to place doubt in the arbiter's mind regarding the integrity of the test.
  14. My guess is that most teams realized the Brewers would pull him off waivers. But I can't figure out why teams wouldn't want an all-star performing at a high level. How is it that he's vilified for steroids more than Johnny Peralta, Melky Cabrera, and others?
  15. My complaint with driving speeds is when on the interstates in rural areas, people don't use their cruise control. I use mine every day even in suburban driving. Some people get to 70+ on highways and constantly fluctuate speed. Additionally, I get really annoyed when people driving modern cars will hold their phones in their hands while driving when I know it's a model that has bluetooth. Especially annoying is when they are holding it up to their mouths on speakerphone. Seriously, I can handle talking on the phone and driving, but please have two hands on the wheel and your eyes ahead of you.
  16. I still want 4 prospects minimum for Braun. His contract is a plus, not a detriment. It should add value to the return, not require us to throw in a lot of money.
  17. I was a little shocked when posters were reporting Wang throwing around 90. With the Brewers he was around 93-95 (fx had him as high as 95.5). Maybe this is by design, but I'm curious if there's still velocity in the tank. He's had nice primary and secondary statistics these last two seasons. He's worth giving a look
  18. Both related to bathrooms: -Maybe it's just me, but when I have to pee, I always simply go over the top of the elastic. It's been that way me entire life. Most men's briefs/boxer briefs have openings that are too complex to work when peeing is urgent. Why have the opening? -Why do some people stand at a urinal, then open their belt, top button, and let the pants hang down a little while peeing? Unlike underwear, the zipper opening works perfectly on pants/shorts, and provides plenty of room
  19. Don't forget how young he is. He has a chance to improve his stuff. If only we could merge him and his fellow Hawaiian .
  20. Josh, really am sorry to hear about this. Hoping for the best for Jeremy. My family has had challenges with substances, and I really want to see him succeed. Wishing you, Jeremy, and his family the best.
  21. At this point I'm really pleased with both. Scooter's OBP is better thanks to his improved walk rate. Scooter's defense is fine. Compared to Weeks he's a gold-glover. Perez doesn't walk, but is making better contact this year and driving the ball. I'm happy with both. I like depth
  22. why doubt he'd do a weeklong stint on Rehab? Makes perfect sense to me
  23. I wouldn't mind teams having to forfeit draft picks to sign a player. Assign a draft pick to a signing bonus value. Sign a kid for $4 million, forego your 1st round pick. I'd also love to see things changed so a team can't add players AND get compensation picks for losing guys. I'd like MLB to adopt an NFL-like policy whereby a commission determines how teams did in free agency, comparing losses and additions. Draft picks would be awarded at the end of rounds 1-5 based on net losses. edit: oops, there you go. iPad mistake
  24. I had no idea that Neugy's debut was that good. I remember talking with reporter/photographer Bill Mitchell and asked about Neugy. He said he knew him and his family well while in the minors, but after his release he just sort of disappeared.
