  1. and note that Jenkins struck out in that AB like a real man, dinger or bust with a HR cycle opportunity LOL
  2. Johan Santana was in the pen for the better part of 4 years before dominating the AL and winning multiple Cy Youngs. The guy can pitch from the pen and still be a starter. There are dozens of these examples.
  3. Good. I was hoping it said that someplace. Now we can leave it as "there is no tie."
  4. Didn't we just literally quote the rulebook, which uses the reverse language regarding the ball and the runner and who must beat what? And once again, I am just giving you a literal quote from a MLB Umpire Crew Chief (at the time of the interview) of how the rule is interpreted and pointing out that they do NOT interpret it as a tie going to the runner. So why did McClellan qualify his statement about no ties using the word BUT, and then misquote the rulebook to justify the opposite conclusion to what the rulebook said?

  6. Interesting breakdown JoeC. The other aspects to consider is organizational depth, and who is initiating the trade. If the Brewers targeted McKenzie as a guy they want and initiate talks with the Indians about him, they will likely have to give slightly more than market value for him--which they can do if they are trading from an area of depth.
  7. Nothing about that definition indicates that a tie is supposed to go to the runner. Actually I think it does. Bolded part seems to mean that the tag has to happen before he reaches base. If its a tie, then it hasnt happened before he got there, therefore he would be safe. Though i could be wrong since im not a lawyer, and thus dont speak legalese. I'm with you-- thus my post. Also, not a lawyer. However, while I have a nominal understanding of semantics and sentence structure, I am old enough to know that the law says that a lawyer understands words better than me. I think. Shrug.
  8. Is this from TH? Counsell?
  9. Peralta, Hader, Woodruff, and Wang.
  10. It's probably a bit over-rated for a game like baseball. Today, Zach Davies was clearly the team leader.
  11. So, the tie goes to the runner, unless called otherwise on the field, in which case the replay will uphold the tie going to whatever is called on the field. We've been screwed by replay and/or 50/50 calls upheld at least 6 times in the last 2 weeks.
  12. And now Zach Davies gets in on the act. I've been mostly hating on this rotation, but they've stepped up big time in the last couple of weeks. Much like the position players, it always seems like somebody new is stepping up to perform. It's been a fun year.
  13. As others have said, any position but OF and I'd take a look. Hopefully more teams throw guys of his caliber/contract status on the trading block-- just at a different position.
  14. As well as a few slow fastballs. And very few strikes. We should have gotten more than 3 runs against him.
  15. Charley Steiner and Orel Hershiser are insufferable announcers.
  16. They've been in the "so bad that they're good" category ever since they went on the air. Somehow, I find them both charming and annoying.
  17. I like both of those deals.
  18. Contact play likely scores a run AND saves an out there. Hernandez was goofed up by Broxton breaking to the plate and missed the ball. Even if he gets it and throws Broxton out, Brewers still have guys on 1st and 3rd with one out. If Broxton breaks back to the bag, best case scenario is likely Hernandez throws out Aguilar at first and Brewers have guys on 2nd and 3rd with one out (not much different than 1st and 3rd with one out)
  19. I am normally pretty chill about this sort of thing, but this kind of seemed like a watershed game/moment tonight against the Dodgers/Kershaw. Watching a fastball go by right down the middle with w/a guy on 3rd in a 1 run extra inning game is pretty bad. At least foul it off. There are times when leaving the bat on your shoulder and watching a borderline pitch go by for strike 3 is excusable. Even a fastball. This was NOT one of those times.
  20. I sure hope so. If that pitcher turns out like a Corey Knebel (1st round, 2013, so be it).
  21. yeah. that was baad. If the bases were loaded, it is almost excusable, but right there you have to get the bat on the ball. Even a foul ball! Or even swinging at a perfect knee buckling breaking ball just outta the zone! But watching a fastball right down the middle with a guy on 3rd and 1 out is the epitome of modern baseball. Just ******* horrible.
  22. Somewhere Briggs is shaking his head at this game. Honestly everyone should be, this is out of hand. The pendulum has swung too far the other way I totally agree.... unless we win... then it's all good.
