  2. So much for toolsy guys. The Bat Plays! He'll put up monster numbers in the minors and get the bigs quick. Just hope he brings his glove.
  3. If I understand the scouting system correctly (ha!), a later round pick doesn't necessarily mean lesser talent. It might be a HS player who is physically immature and is set up well to go to a quality baseball school and so won't sign for anything less than a certain slot number. If he matures, he very may well be a top 10 talent. If the top of the draft is relatively weak, it makes perfect sense to go underslot-- not because they are passing on superior talent-- but TO ACTUALLY SIGN superior talent from the later rounds.
  4. If the MLB ever requires all pitchers who enter the game to finish an inning, I'd be extremely pleased. The whole ROOGY/LOOGY thing is just stupid. It would speed up the game/action and increase offense at the same time.
  5. Why are we trying to steal there? If Aguilar gets a hold of one we get the lead. IMO it wasn't worth the risk there. When you are trying to make a comeback in the 9th you can't give away outs. If it was Villar/Broxton/Perez/Braun I'd let them run if they felt comfortable getting a good jump on the pitcher. I haven't seen that from Santana though.
  6. Yep. He's young and skinny, so hopefully he can put on a few pounds by the time he is 25 and he can get around on the inside pitches better. He doesn't barrel up a lot of balls and he doesn't quite have enough speed to be able to dink and dunk his way to a .275+ avg. As long as the rest of our order produces he is tolerable, but he will need to improve to be a benefit to the lineup. Again, he is young, so he certainly CAN improve.
  7. Agreed. Our rotation has picked it up big time. It will be nice to get Braun and Shaw back.
  8. So, that ball to Thames was ruled a triple? Huh. Anytime a ball gets by an outfielder and runners move up because of it, it should be an error, even if the guy tries to make a great play and it gets by him (even moreso if the guy gets a bad break on it). Even a single and a 2 base error would be better than ruling it a triple.
  9. When Shaw comes back one of them will go back down. When Braun comes back the other one will go back down. When Braun gets hurt again, one of them will come back up. Rinse, repeat.
  10. The hand was forced with Garza, Braun and Villar's injuries and Shaw being unavailable. No reason not to bring up the best talent if they are going to see the field. None of those 4 guys will be out for long, so this is kind of a fun opening act for the youngsters to be able to play meaningful games and yet with no pressure to perform in the long term since they'll likely be going back down in a week or two anyway. Perfect scenario.
  11. It was either Brinson, Cordell, Michael Reed or Yadi Rivera. No other position players are on the 40 man, and if Villar is down, we definiitely needed a position player. Franklin, Sogard, and Perez' versatility allows it to be an OF only.
  12. Personally, I'm enjoying lines like "and we all know what dominant relievers bring at the deadline!" which have become rampant around here .
  13. There's been more than a couple big lanky lefties who couldn't control their fastball in their youth, then found it as they matured. Randy Johnson comes to mind.
  14. This is very misleading, sure Feliz's number look good when you remove all his bad outing, but you cant compare these numbers to the usual league average where a 2.66 ERA looks "pretty good". If you remove every relievers 3 worst outing Feliz is still bad in comparison. Same with the others That's true--but the point is that it is still very early with such small sample sizes. The percentage of clean outings is more important than overall stats (i.e. if you have a bad day and give up 5 or 6 runs, the team still only gets 1 loss). As everybody knows, bullpens are very fickle. It gets very frustrating, but it is very difficult to predict with any kind of certainty who is going to turn it on and be lights out (Jeffress/KRod/Axford/Turnbow) and who is going to flame out (Jeffress/KRod/Axford/Turnbow)
  15. Gatewood is looking good. There is still hope for Harrison and Clark.
  16. Ugh. Well, following the Cubs model, but they have some resources the Brewers don't. The thing with OF... if they draft (another) one at #9 he better be really, really special. Like, perennial all-star/HOF talent. Because what we've seen is that between Brinson, Phillips, Cordell, Santana, Broxton... they are fairly easy to obtain in a trade. They don't cost much to acquire, and you can move guys there too (Perez). They are perhaps the inefficiency in the market. So why spend valuable resources (#9 overall) on assets that don't cost much to acquire? I think that with Adell in particular, they see a potential all-star - albeit a very raw and young guy. Adell will need time to develop - no one would expect him to be in Milwaukee in a year or two. It's taking a guy with a very high ceiling (who are hard to come by) - but also with significant bust potential. Yeah. While serviceable OFers are relatively easy to come by, MVPs are not. Stockpiling high-ceiling young OF talent gives you a decent chance to end up with one or two All-Stars. If we had any sort of track record of developing starting pitching, I'd say the same about that.
  17. The players mostly know what the correct call is. If there is a dispute, let the cameras/computers decide the call and have 1 crew chief around for rule interpretation.
  18. Our economy could save millions by firing all the umps.
  19. Since Scooter beat the Cards tonight, does that count for at least .5 WAR for the Brewers?
