  1. Hawkins? At 6-0? I guess he could use some work, and it appears that Estrada has passed him in the bullpen pecking order. I kind of thought this was McClendon/Dillard territory though. Yo better not come out for the ninth.
  2. What are the odds that Kotsay gets the third out this inning?
  3. Wow! That two-seam fastball had Marcum like movement on it to K Torres. If Yo could consistently command that pitch it would be outstanding. I haven't seen that before from him.
  4. Wow, Yo is getting some calls here. If that is the strike zone all game I'm glad the Crew picked up a couple runs already, cuz there aren't going to be too many guys who can hit those called strike threes there.
  5. Well, we aren't exactly pounding the ball here, but I'll take it!
  6. I feel good about the hit and run with Morgan at the plate as opposed to Gomez, that's for sure. Worked out well there. Would be nice to get to Cain early!
  7. Bonds did it 4 times, once with a 40/40 100 season. Ruth and Williams are probably the best hitters of all-time, Honus Wagner and Willie Mays are probably the best overall players of all-time, but Bonds was probably the best offensive weapon of all-time, and I'm even discounting his last 6-8 years as being juiced (otherwise he would probably eclipse Ruth and Williams in pure hitting status as well).
  8. A 30/30 season with 100 walks would be a rare feat indeed. In fact, only three guys in history have ever done it, but they each did it multiple times for a grand total of eight 30/30 100 walk seasons in MLB history. Does anybody have any guesses who the three might be? One guy is a gimme.
  9. It's so great to come off of a victory by Wolf or Narveson when they are followed up by Gallardo or Greinke. Every 5 days from here on out if we win two out of the three games that Gallardo, Greinke, and Marcum pitch and win half the games that Wolf and Narveson pitch we'll end up with 94 wins. I think that has to be the goal, if not the expectation for this team.
  10. Rockies have scored 6 runs against Garcia and the Cards in the first inning. Hopefully this is just what Garcia needs in order to remember that he isn't any good, and sets off a downward spiral for the Cards.
  11. Small ball for the win!! Phew. I don't really like the call as I have confidence in Lucroy hitting, but at the same time I don't know how good of a bunter he is. If that is something he is lights out on, I guess it's a good move. It worked this time!
  12. Loe comes in and gets two ground balls just like he is supposed to. Too bad it didn't work out. Hopefully he can get a third here and get out of this without any more damage done.
  13. Hopefully Loe can get his ERA under 4 with this outing. Not there is much of a difference between 3.95 and 4.07, but it's just really ugly to have to look at one of your main options for relieving to have an ERA that begins with 4.
  14. I fear that was one batter too long. I wish he would've been pulled after the walk.
  15. Wolf has only given up 2 hits and is at 72 pitches. Would seem a bit premature to take him out. Normally I'd agree, but with Brewer pitchers this year it seems like when things start to go sour in the 6th and 7th innings they go real sour real fast. Estrada has been pretty lights out, so I certainly wouldn't be opposed to getting him up and ready anyway. Wolf got through it nicely though.
  16. Phew. I was pretty sure that the wild pitch was going to cost us there. It still might, but it sure would be nice to have confidence in the backstop.
  17. That was a very strategic AB by Nieves, swinging at strike 3 on a likely WP/PB. He thought it might be the best chance at him getting on base.
  18. I don't think he's been perfect. I don't think I would've played Kotsay in center, but with how bad Gomez was looking at the plate, I don't think it was a big deal. I end up looking like an apologist on this site because I often try to reign in the extremism that tends to rule these parts.
  19. Kotsay only played because of injuries. Part of being liked in the clubhouse and having players want to play for you is rewarding guys for doing what you want them to do. Gomez did what RR wanted him to do in Spring Training, and he was rewarded by batting in the 2 spot. When the results didn't follow, and his approach changed, he was moved down in the order/was benched. Kotsay played over Morgan during the first couple of weeks because Kotsay was with the club all Spring and Morgan joined the team a day or to before the season. It makes sense that Kotsay would get playing time over Morgan early in order to develop a good team atmosphere. It's not like the discrepancy between them was so great as to make much of a difference for a couple of games anyway. Now that Morgan has paid his dues and his healthy, I don't think you'll see Kotsay in center again.
  20. When something doesn't make sense, usually there is a reason that isn't public (Hart being sick). Yet many people would rather jump on management and call him an idiot. Hopefully Hart can pinch hit today. I like being able to pick from Lucroy, Kotsay, Hart and Counsell in key situations late in the game. Of course, that's pretty ridiculous since it means the not-so-good players are hitting in the first 6 innings.
  21. I guess I'm the only guy who likes this pickup. I'd hope that Nieves is gone and we improve our versatility on the bench a bit. He's gotta be better at D than Yuni, and I'd hope that he can run a little bit, but I really have no idea. I don't like carrying 3 catchers and only 1 backup IF. Now if he can't play D or run (his stats already show that he can't hit, but the rest of his game is too hard too judge from numbers) then it's a bad pickup, but if he can't hit, run or field I doubt he ever would've seen the time in the bigs that he has.
  22. Well, if the Cards, Marlins and other decent teams in the NL also continue at their pace I'd have to pass on this proposition. The Cards would have the division wrapped up at 90-60, and the Marlins would be sitting at 88-62, 7 games in front of the Crew for the wild card. I'll take 81-69 if they are within 1.5 games of a playoff spot. If not, I'd let the season play out and see if they can do better.
  23. Phew. Another good game by the Crew. I was really thinking that there was some terrible karma was going to get us after the fireworks went off on the foul tip. I love sweeps. I really love back-to-back sweeps. I really really love back-to-back-to-back sweeps. Linecum, Sanchez and Cain probably have something to say about that though. Marcum/Lincecum on Friday night should be a dandy.
