  1. There have been rumors of retirement if it is indeed a torn ACL
  2. Just refining plate disipline. Not only taking walks but things like knowing when to guess and when not to, recognizing that a pitcher is going to work you low and away the entire AB and how to adjust, adapting to the release point quickly, etc. He looks like he goes up there with no strategy or a bad one, cant adapt, and hes a tick slower than he used to be.
  3. My theory on Weeks (its bleak): He's lost some speed in his wrists and his legs due to age, 2 wrist surgeries and his ankle last year. He's gotten by with talent most of his career, and hasnt developed any veteran savvy to compensate for his declining skills.
  4. Getting close to a nice sample of him as a starter between this year and last year and I havent seen a drop off between him and Narveson at all. I wish we had 1 more quality pitcher still but Estrada looks like a fine 5 this year and even next.
  5. Depending on the pitcher I'd like to use Kottaras or Conrad here and switch in Maysonet for Izturis
  6. Suppan pitched terrible. The number of 86 MPH fastballs middle middle and hanging curve balls was... About as many as ive ever seen in a MLB game. This failure was completely on the Brewers.
  7. I looked into that quite a bit and no, hes going to suck, because a slightly lower HR rate half the time doesnt help much when you walk among the most in baseball. There are times, about once a game, when he literally cant throw a strike for 6-10 pitches. He might make a great reliever though Well, you have to imagine he pitches with a little more confidence knowing that hard hit balls here won't be automatic homeruns. That's why a lot of marginal pitchers elsewhere come to San Diego and find success. We'll see, he's off to a pretty nice start. Some innings you could send Craig Counsell at the plate without a bat and Volquez would walk him. I thought that same logic, that maybe that park would let him throw strikes more, but it just doesnt/wont. He isnt capable of adapting an approach like that anyway.
  8. Are we really starting this after 26 ABs, a 768 ops with a home run, some really pesky ABs, from pinch hitting and maybe 2 random starts?

  10. True, true He'll come back looking like the hulk Im sure -blue
  11. The same announcement was made in the Padres press box, and audible over the Brewers Radio Network. /lunging to knock on wood To be further evaluated... Still scared
  12. If that strike zone Marcum had is the same one Volquez gets, he'll walk at least 2 every inning
  13. Umm I dont think Marcum is going to do well when the ump is literally forcing him to throw it middle middle. Edit: but then again we are playing the Padres
  14. No!?! Why give away a solid 3 so we can start Estrada and Peralta and probably Parra or McClung if those 5 guys miss a single game?
  15. Hardy was a major candidate for regression this year. No way he hits 25 again. Probably more like 17.
  16. Thats a play that doesnt happen with just 1 of Yuni/Fielder on the field
  17. Ugh I cant take these average ground balls from the Cards going right through the gap. They have the highest team BABIP in baseball by a lot.
  18. If Aoki and Morgan are playing the same day who plays CF? Has that happened yet?
  19. He is Nyjer Morgan except he can take a walk and read fly balls. I also love players that see a lot of pitches, which he always does. 3 man platoon please. Split the RHP 50/50 between Aoki and Morgan and give Gomez RHP. Maybe even line up 1 day a week of rest for Hart against RHP and start both lefties. Not too often though, need Hart to hit 5th pretty much every day.
  20. Not watching, why did Loe Axford KRod Parra all pitch 1/3 of an inning?
