  1. Since when has it become so hard for 1B umpires to make close calls? Man alive.
  2. That, and you have Matt Cain tomorrow. To me, it feels like one of those "let's try and win the series today, then we don't need the game tomorrow". Of course you want to win both, but if the plan is to sit Braun tomorrow (unless he's feeling a lot better), than you're probably not expecting to go out and beat Matt Cain.
  3. I think Roenicke's hope is to get the best matchup he can today (Bumgarner it may be, but Braun and others hit LHP very well), try to steal one, then give Braun tonight and the day off tomorrow to get ready for a big series against the Reds on Monday. It could be a lingering injury though, you're right. But I think more players play through these types of injuries than we know. Just a matter of playing it day-to-day.
  4. You win the "closest thing to today's lineup" game. Well, at least the Aoki then Weeks part. Makes more sense to me.
  5. Well guess it will be Green (or someone else) after all. Makes me wonder if we're going to be seeing some Ishikawa in the corner OF spots.
  6. I like Green, but I'd rather not see Conrad play in the OF at the major league level, lol. Almost certain to be Schafer or Gindl. After a healthy 2011 though, this team is getting hit by the injury bug early and often. Luckily, nobody they can't live without so far. But then again, the guys they would really miss are mostly all underperforming to this point. Hopefully this team begins to hit their stride soon.
  7. This really stinks. Now what? I do not want to see a season of Ishikawa.
  8. Solid outing by Marcum. That's the good starting pitching we know!
  9. If Marcum wasn't dealing with this ridiculous strike zone, he might only be at 70 pitches right now.
  10. I looked into that quite a bit and no, hes going to suck, because a slightly lower HR rate half the time doesnt help much when you walk among the most in baseball. There are times, about once a game, when he literally cant throw a strike for 6-10 pitches. He might make a great reliever though Well, you have to imagine he pitches with a little more confidence knowing that hard hit balls here won't be automatic homeruns. That's why a lot of marginal pitchers elsewhere come to San Diego and find success. We'll see, he's off to a pretty nice start.
  11. I can't believe the Brewers have just one hit, because Volquez has been far from great tonight. The park has stolen at least 3 extra base hits, two would-be homers at Miller Park. Not a bad trade by the Padres though, because this is a place he can probably succeed throughout an entire season.
  12. In general, umpiring the past couple years on the whole has been atrocious.
  13. Gamel to be re-evaluated in the morning. Guess we'll see...
  14. In any other stadium tonight, Ryan Braun just hit a 2-run homerun. In Petco, he has a long out on warning track. Right field is just unforgiving here.
  15. The way he was writhing in pain, I don't think it's just tightness. Actually, when Dan Wright was moving his knee all around and bending it, it didn't look like he was in pain at all. Nice zone, Winters. Wow. Yeah, good point. Seemed like he tweaked it swinging the bat though now. Hard to tell at this point, gotta keep our fingers crossed.
  16. Hopefully it's not an ACL, on the replay it does look like it bent funny. Trying to stay optimistic though.
  17. The way he was writhing in pain, I don't think it's just tightness.
  18. With the way Conrad has been hitting, might not be the worst thing ever...at first.
  19. Agreed. Soreness never really crops up till the day after. Now Gamel out. Uh oh...
  20. Nothing but the collision. Mills comments after last night's game: "My first thought, he must have had the plate blocked. And then I found out he didn’t have the plate blocked and I said, ‘C'mon, man.'"
  21. Right on the screws. Norris was lucky to get a glove on it.
  22. You're right to be skeptical. http://disciplesofuecker.com/brewers-lose-narveson-for-rest-of-season/4428 Not a good list of pitchers on there, only Pedro really made it back as a starter, and that's because a diminished Pedro was still a good one. Good luck to Chris, won't be an easy road back.
