  1. it's not scientific or anything on Braddock. But he had a lot of buzz coming into the year and has seemed pretty mediocre so far. It seemed every time I checked, he was getting rocked at least. One of the few players to drop in the upper echelon of the Power 50 and with the draft, he will likely fall out of the top 10 now.
  2. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt -Abe Lincoln Edit: I'm not sure how this got here, but it was in response to the Ned Yost press conferences..
  3. well a few things on laporta and I'll leave it at that: - he's considerably older than Fielder (20) was at AAA - judging by teammates performances, I would think pitching in the league is a little down - Braun had a slightly higher BA, and a slightly lower OPS, but crushed AAA (OPS-wise) at the the same age Yeah I guess I'm spoiled is all.. looking at a sub-300 BA in AA. Laporta seems to be able to draw walks a little better than Braun, while Braun hits for a higher average. Laporta actually has the better OBP, while Braun is probably more athletic (as far as the rest of his game is concerned). There's going to be a lot of tough decisions this offseason.
  4. I have a hard time with laporta in the amazing category. Call it being spoiled over an embarrassment of hitting talent in AA lately. But my expectations of a top 10 drafted hitting prospect with limited fielding capability under Jack Z is that he dominates offensively. Laporta is a college kid, older than several of the other prospects we have in AA, and not hitting at the level of some of his teammates. I'm hoping he shows enough bat to be able to adequately replace Prince eventually, but I feel his performance this year is status quo.
  5. sounds like a fun game, let me try: We didn't want our closer to strike the gap
  6. Good: Mat Gamel Alicdes Escobar Angel Salome Brad Nelson Bad: Brent Brewer Edit: Removed Braddock by popular demand
  7. glad we didnt get another 8th inning defensive replacement from Cameron
  8. I've never played professional baseball, but once I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express near Miller Park. I think you get a feel for how your opposing pitcher likes to pitch to pitchers. Does he go right after them and throw it down the middle, knowing they aren't likely to make contact? I think its just a feel thing.
  9. Villy would be great for the second inning. Unfortunately, he's not a "third inning" or a "fifth inning" guy, so we'll probably see some activity in the pen all day.
  10. Butler with a gem so far today.. shutout and 7 Ks through 5...
  11. and a 1-hitter for the Sounds..decent night on the farm
  12. Gamel with a monster night to break free from the Jaxx (they've been close both games).. 4RBI's on 3 hits including a HR..in the 7th now
  13. I got a bad feeling about this road trip after last night. That's the type of loss that can really shake a team's confidence..when nobody is on the same page as the guy calling the shots. Hope I'm wrong, but this has the makings of another bad road trip under Yost.
  14. My guess at next top 20: 1 Mat Gamel - I'm guessing there was a typo last time that forgot to put him first 2 Matt Laporta 3 Alcides Escobar 4 Jeremy Jeffress 5 Angel Salome 6 Brett Lawrie - the kids in the system are hitting so well, and you cant expect this guy to be a contributor any time soon 7 Taylor Green - personally, I think Lucroy should be here, but I wont fight the "man" 8 Luis Pena 9 Jonathon Lucroy 10 Jacob Odorizzi - sounds like a great pick, but HS arm so I'll get excited when he hits AA 11 Cole Gillespie - stock continues to slip 13 Michael Brantley 14 Lorenzo Cain - rising, but need to make room for the draft picks 15 Evan Frederickson - trusting Z here 16 Chris Errecart 17 Seth Linz 18 Zach Braddock 19 Cutter Dykstra 20 Cody Adams
  15. liked the fact that he pitched the shutout AND scored the game winner. Don't like the 111 pitches part. Shut er down!
  16. I'm a little surprised at the distribution of players. We've been hearing about "best player available" and we've got pitchers, catchers, and shortstops.
  17. wow thats uncanny resemblence
  18. yeah its going to be tough to get over the notion of him being on enhancers, plus that entire lineup is doing great..
  19. I dont think so for the most part. It penalizes team for shelling out for top free agents. It helps. I like the new rules on getting a pick next year if you can't sign yours this year. That will help keep those players with huge demands in line to some degree.
  20. that should have been in blue im sure. Melvin would never say anything like that. Though I feel the Brewers will roll the dice and keep Sheets. Lose momentum with the fringe fans otherwise, plus you get comp picks in the draft.
  21. Escobar's average continues to climb..Salome catches Gamel at .381
  22. Type A vs Type B FAs.. Cordero & Linebrink were Type A based on the previous 2 years' performances
  23. yeah i was figuring that in.. he will take time to develop, but i dont see Salome and Lucroy both missing and not being long-term solutions..
  24. I dont buy him making it at catcher, either..partially because of Lucroy and Salome.
