1. bruised face? irregular heartbeat? twisted testicle? Maybe the curse of sheets is moving southward
2. why do i get the feeling this will turn into a Rickie Weeks / Chris Capuano situation with the Brewers eager to have him back in the lineup and Yost eager to declare him 100% healthy, and the fans eager to turn on him as a result.
3. The Crew used their second pick in each of the last 2 drafts on catchers. I can't see them taking any more than 2 in addition, especially if there aren't more than 2 worth taking so low.
4. I don't see any way they keep Prince. 1) his size/position means he can only play one position, and is a long-term health risk. Brewers don't have that kind of money to gamble with 2) By the end of his contract, the Brewers will still be power-heavy, and will continue to have slugger logjams at the corners. 3) Braun (and probably LaPorta) will be putting people in the seats with the longball 4) The Brewers scouting have a knack for finding stud power hitters, making Prince somewhat expendable for the price 5) Prince could net the Brewers significant upgrades in pitching and prospects if he were dealt in/before his final year
5. thats the most hillarious thing I've seen on a Brewer Broadcast. Bill starts going on and on about Harang.."better get him early. He just gets better and better as the game goes on. The later he goes.." Immediately they pop up a stat line showing Harang doing his best in the first 3 innings and getting worse throughout the game. Bill's like "well I guess I was completely wrong on taht one"
6. I would be absolutely shocked if he drops below .300 in the next few years.
7. I don't know about runs created in determining a player's value. But for the heck of it, I ran the RC/PA stats for those top 5 seasons listed using your RC numbers: Using your RC numbers: So the projected final results would look like: Ryan Braun 2007 309 .243 1. Robin Yount 141 1982 689 .205 Prince Fielder 2007 489 .200 2. Cecil Cooper 131 1980 661 .198 5. Ben Oglivie 121 1980 646 .187 6. Robin Yount 120 1989 677 .178 7. Cecil Cooper 119 1982 686 .174 4. Richie Sexson 124 2003 714 .174 8. Tommy Harper 118 1970 681 .173 3. Paul Molitor 128 1991 742 .172 11. John Jaha 116 1996 628 .170 10. Cecil Cooper 116 1983 698 .166 9. Robin Yount 117 1987 711 .165 So basically this stat shows Braun eclipsing Yount's top pace by about 20%
8. I think he's shown as much AAA potential as the other infielders in the minors and his early time in the majors. His wrist injury changed all of that, and now its probably a combination of physical and mental. His defense did improve. I expect good things from him next year if he's healthy. He's been showing more plate discipline since his recall.
9. even without the extra games, Braun's RBI numbers won't be too shabby. He will be in the 90-105 range.
10. Santana/Mauer sounds about right. We can use a catcher more than a 3B, and Mauer's numbers have been pretty ridiculous also, especially at that position. Mauer's health and Santana's contract offset Braun's length of cheap contract left. Pujols is too expensive comparatively and plays 1B. Arod is way too expensive and Braun may be in his league.
11. Holliday has great stats, but he's in Colorado, which offers a significant haircut. Bonds has great numbers again, but he won't win it for many reasons. A lot of the players on that list won't be in the playoffs.
12. I'll just copy my earlier post: If the brewers make the playoffs, in spite of Prince's early pub and leading the NL in HRs..it would be hard not to vote Braun MVP based on the numbers. He is on track to win the batting title, is second in the league in OPS, has a 40-pt first place lead in slugging, and is leading the league in HRs since his callup. To add to the list, he was named NL player of the month..so it's not like he's not getting MVP-type consideration already.
13. that's what excites me about Dillon as well. Not only is this guy hitting well in clutch situations, but he has the coaching background, and obviously his age and baseball knowledge can help this young club.

15. I heard comments about his back after two months and how he needed time off to heal, and there was rumbling about how much tread he had on him this year in the discussion. This was shortly after getting knocked off his HR lead. Now he has barely hit a HR since, and his movement on the basebaths and throwing to first have also looked weak. I'm guessing he needs a week off, which he won't get.
16. LaPorta is high by default. Inman, Braun, Gallardo, and others have moved up or on. And obviously Salome will sink..
17. I say a good way to evaluate a manager is to put him a well-rounded team, with no serious weakness, add 3 all-stars (ie, Sheets, Coco, and Hardy), plus an MVP candidate (Fielder) and see if he is able to play .500 baseball (been playing about .450 baseball since the great early start). For good measure, add a second MVP candidate (Braun) and another allstar pitcher (Gallardo) or two (Parra).
18. I'm not sure how often this happens. Seems I see a lot more of Yost railing on a player in public than I see from other managers against their players..and thats just what we are seeing. It seems to me that Yost's managing style consists of huffing and puffing, and complaining to Sveum and others over every bad play from a position player, while dressing down his pitchers every once in a while in public. I don't see how he's a players coach - just doesnt seem professional. I'm not saying the players arent screwing up. I'm saying whatever Yost is doing to get them to play better is not successful. Also, I disagree with the 'poo pooing' of the incident like its just the 'common fan' that doesnt see that this is common. What was interesting about the Cubs fight was that it was pretty unusual. If it weren't you wouldn't be having the front office meeting with Ned about and questioning if there is a serious issue between the players and management. You also wouldnt have a player say something that could be interpreted harshly go "off record" to say it.
19. kind of an unfair question to ask us about someone that is absolutely mashing the way he is. It's pretty much a slam dunk that everyone loves him.
20. good points, the entire team is sucking and underperforming, youngster & veteran alike, which obviously isn't the manager's fault. After all, he doesn't actually play. Oh, wait a second, the entire team is underperforming and the manager shouldnt get questioned for that???
21. other teams play through injuries this time of year, and its not like we lost Utley. As for the slump..look around.. aside from Braun, everyone is in a slump. Yes, I do believe Yost is part of that equation.
22. even if you disagree on the notion that yost is a bad decision maker, what you can't disagree with is this: -The Brewers were expected to win the division with an unknown in Prince, Hardy, and Sheets to start the season -All 3 of those unknowns started the season as all-stars -The Brewers started out with the best record in baseball through the first month and a half -That great start and preseason prediction was without the aid of Parra, Yo, and Braun, who are all turning in allstar performances In spite of all the added super talent and everyone proving they can play great ball, and a bunch of rising allstars, the Brewers have played sub-.500 baseball since their great start. As the season progresses, all of the players have regressed. The only thing keeping the team with the hottest start alive is the phenoms they have brought up from the minors at this point.
23. I disagree strongly with most of Ned's ingame tactics, especially his use of and tactics with pitchers. He smugly refutes most of this in his postgames with his "you don't know cuz you're not the manager". I guess all that we have been seeing isnt just fan-speak but the players are frustrated with him as well. I've never seen a manager get fired during a playoff run, but it would be a bold and useful move.
24. "Milwaukee radio reporting that Brynes is coming to Brewers for JAckson and Gross. Asked their source, they said Melvin."p071.ezboard.com/fbuckyvillefrm12.showMessage?topicID=2450.topic
25. anything on Byrnes? Buckyville is saying Melvin says Jackson & Gross for Byrnes
