Watching Robbie Ray’s start against the Padres tonight, and he’s struck out 5 of the first 8 batters so far as Trent Grisham comes to the plate now. He looks just outstanding, especially with his newly adjusted pre-throw arm motion. I’ll be rooting for the Diamondbacks to go in the tank because I would like for this to be the year the Brewers execute a trade involving Ray. He’s a free agent at season’s end.

Outside of maybe players’ friends and family being allowed at some point there doesn’t seem to be a clear path to hosting fans during the regular season.

Nailed it! -
Maybe it will prove to be overblown, but I do think having all of these different styles of relievers could be an effective strategy over a short season and short series playoff format.
-
Man, this place really cleared out. Typical (virtual) Cubs’ fans, I guess.
-
This. Definitely this.

Garcia’s speed is going to be fun this year.
-
Take that Roxanne!
-
I’m looking forward to watching the Cubs bullpen this season.
-
Holy cow, I thought that was going to be foul off the bat.
-
I absolutely love Keston Hiura, but my heart skips a beat everytime he winds up to make throw from the middle of the diamond.
-
This would be a good time for Yelich’s first hit of the season.
-
I missed this...what'd I miss? Players from both benches were jawing at each other and Rizzo and Yelich among others came just outside the dugouts and yelled back and forth at each other.

Gambino!!!!
-
Would love to burn Darvish here after he (likely intentionally) throws at Narvaez.
-
Did Hiura offer there? Didn’t look like it live.
-
I had to remind myself what a good hitter he was at his peak. During his age 26-29 seasons he hit .276 BA / .349 OBP / .429 SLG / .778 OPS.

Currently on pace for a nearly five hour 9-inning game. By this point (duration) yesterday the game was almost half over.
-
Yep, Part II of Cain outsmarting the Cubs puts a run on the board.
-
Need Sogard to find his way on base and give the MVP a chance with the bases loaded. Edit: Fixed.
-
Gambino comes through (sort of)! Amazing play by Cain (again)! Stay hot, Orlando.

One thing I do like about the expanded playoffs is the Brewers will either make the playoffs with a chance at making a special run, or else they will (likely) end up with a top-14 draft pick. One of those two things will happen if the season can be completed, so that’s something. How’s that for some optimism!

Thought Contreras went around and that was strike three... sigh.
-
Wish they could have gotten to him that inning, but after Hendricks throws a 103-pitch complete game last night at least the Brewers got a couple of hits and force Darvish to throw 20 pitches in the 1st inning. The Cubs bullpen is pretty clearly their weakness, hopefully the Brewers can get to it at some point this afternoon.

Heard an interesting stat on yesterday’s Effectively Wild podcast... In the history of modern baseball only two pitchers have had a >.410 BABIP over a season of at least 45.0 innings pitched. Both occurred last season and both pitched in the NL Central. For the answer click the spoiler below...
