  1. Hopefully no more rain rolls in because we are now past the point of an official game.
  2. Haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but Wade Miley with a very rough start with the Reds tonight. He was pulled in the 2nd inning after getting tagged for 6 runs (5 earned).
  3. I don’t think I’d hesitate to get some lefty bats into the game. The Pirates only have two LHRPs and Kuhl is much, much worse against left handed hitters (.877 OPS vs LHH for his career). Granted, he hasn’t pitched in MLB since 2018.
  4. Up 0-2 on Reynolds and then 4 straight balls. Hope Houser doesn’t have an long inning here after the delay. Edit: That went about as well as we could have hoped!
  5. Surprised they’re sticking with Houser after that long of a delay. Maybe because he only threw one inning and 13 pitches they felt they could keep him ready. Will be interesting how long he lasts from here.
  6. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but it looks like rain is in the forecast for Pittsburgh this evening.
  7. I think it's probably unlikely that Phillies players have been infected from their limited contact with the Marlins, but I think it's highly likely there are more members of the Marlins that have been infected, but have yet to test positive.
  8. One logistical piece that sort of fascinates me is a dozen or more infected Marlins are going to reportedly be spending the next 14 days in their luxury hotel in Philadelphia. I am sure other teams (as well members of the general public) are supposed to stay at that same hotel over the next two weeks. I'm curious how the team and the hotel are going to manage that difficult situation.
  9. From Jeff Passan: The Baltimore Orioles are returning home from Miami tonight, sources tell ESPN, ensuring Tuesday's game won't be played at Marlins Park, either. At some point, the healthy Marlins are expected to travel to Baltimore, where they were scheduled to play Wednesday and Thursday. --------------------------------------------------- From Scott Miller: The MLB hope is to regroup today as Marlins remain quarantined in Philly &, depending on today's test results, team would bus to Baltimore & play tomorrow's game there instead of Miami w/others from "taxi squad" joining club there and subbing in, according to industry sources
  10. Recommend this article for subscribers to The Athletic: Inside the Phillies’ evolving response to the Marlins outbreak This sort of addressed the same concern quoted above, via Ken Rosenthal: Another concern for Phils: Due to incubation period, tests they are taking today and tomorrow might not show whether they were positive from contact yesterday. Team supposed to travel to NY tomorrow night, but how confident can players be knowing results will not be up to minute?
  11. David Price appears the first player (albeit one who had already opted out) to throw shots at MLB:
  12. Statement from MLB:
  13. I am curious to see when the Marlins (and even the Phillies) will be allowed to resume playing games? Even without a positive test Eric Lauer had to sit out for almost a week (I believe?) after he was exposed via close contact with someone that had the virus. Do the Marlins and Phillies players also need to wait several days after exposure? I am not familiar with how long it typically takes between being exposed and actually contracting the virus to the point where you would produce a positive test?
  14. I am curious to see how players around the league react. A third of the players on a team contracted COVID and they are now basically stuck in a visiting city with no clear plan for how they’re getting back to Miami. The players may make a lot of money relative to the rest of us, but they are also people with families and concerns for their own health and well-being. The fallout from this could certainly be greater than just whatever MLB decides.
  15. Tonight's Yankees-Phillies game has also now been postponed while the Phillies (who played the Marlins this weekend) await their own test results that are expected later today.
  16. If there was ever a year to start out 3-0, this would have been it. It was the first time since 1954 that no team started the season 3-0.
  17. This is really bad news... Passan: Eight more players and two coaches with the Miami Marlins have tested positive for COVID-19, as an outbreak has spread throughout their clubhouse and brought the total of cases in recent days to at least 14, sources familiar with the situation tell me and @JesseRogersESPN. Rosenthal: Source: Marlins’ game tonight against Orioles in Miami has been cancelled. Team still in Philadelphia.
  18. Adrian Houser: Batter (Pirates) vs Pitching Stats Steven Brault: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  19. Today’s game was obviously disappointing, but Eric Lauer was outstanding. I went back and watched his outing and he did a great job locating his cutter just off the edge of the zone while working his 4-seam fastball in the top half of the zone. I wish he would have used his curveball even more against LHH, but when he did throw it he had hitters lunging. Even the one hit he gave up was just a tough luck situation where he jammed Bryant inside and the ball fell in for a single. Before that he even initially had Bryant down 0-2 in that at bat. His velocity was better than I thought it would be on his 4-seamer (92-94 mph) today. I am curious if going forward he finds his way into the rotation or if he is deployed as a multi-inning reliever. In this short season he could be a weapon in the middle innings after a RH starter has gone through the lineup a couple of times.
  20. Tyler Chatwood is much better against RHB than he is LHB, and the next two days the Brewers will face LHP starters (Steven Brault and Derek Holland) that Braun should be in the lineup against. I am more surprised they didn’t give Holt a start today. Edit: Last year Chatwood allowed a .580 OPS to RHH and a .823 OPS to LHH. For his career LHH have a .817 OPS against him (and that’s a sample of 1,874 PAs). Makes sense that they loaded up on LH bats today. I would have preferred Holt starting with Sogard possibly being used as a late inning left handed bat.
  21. Going back to last year the Brewers have now won 6 of their last 8 games against the Cubs. Also, tomorrow marks one year from this game...
  22. Freddy Peralta: Batter (Cubs) vs Pitching Stats Tyler Chatwood: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  23. From The Athletic: Reds’ loss to Tigers isn’t the only sobering reality on Day 2 of the season From the article... This is the part that will continue to be problematic. With tests spaced out every other day there will be players that are COVID positive who are sharing planes, buses, dugouts, hotels, dining, and the field with fellow team members and staff. I hope for both the Reds and baseball’s sake this stays isolated to just Davidson, but at some point there will be teams that will likely have at least a mini-outbreak from this type of scenario.
