  1. Lineups added above. Christian Yelich is slated into the DH spot which isn’t something I expected by the 2nd game of the year, but I guess makes sense in the context of having Ben Gamel in today’s lineup. It’s only the 4th time in his career that Yelich has been the designated hitter in a major league game.

  4. Agreed, still seems a bit strange he’s back. He started last year with a 10 game hitting streak, and over his first 15 games of 2019 he hit .375 BA / .470 OBP / .696 SLG / 1.166 OPS with 9 extra base hits. While unlikely to be near that level, if he could start hot again this year I would feel really great about the top of the Brewers lineup.
  5. Lineups added to the opening post. Three more hours to go before the 2020 season is underway for the Brewers!
  6. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Cubs) vs Pitching Stats Kyle Hendricks: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  7. Agree that there is almost no advantage for the division winners in this new playoff situation. It likely assures that whatever World Series matchup we would have had in the 10-team playoff format isn’t going to be the same we end up with in this scenario. Obviously not something we will know for sure unless a #6, #7, or #8 seed makes the WS, but this will accentuate the randomness aspect of the MLB playoffs.
  8. My updated predicted standings are below. Back in the spring I originally had the Cubs barely winning the division over the Brewers and Reds. Assuming no team gets incredibly hot and runs away with it, I think the Brewers have the flexibility, depth, and pitching talent that can perform well enough over 60 games to win the division. Brewers - 32-28 Reds - 31-29 Cubs - 31-29 Cardinals - 29-31 Pirates - 26-34

  10. With expanded playoffs it's really hard to imagine any team, aside from maybe the Orioles, being so bad that they are out of the playoff race by the trade deadline (Aug. 31).
  11. The move to a 16-team playoff field in 2020 is now reportedly pending ownership approval. MLB and MLBPA agreed on a $50 million postseason bonus pool for players of the 16 teams that qualify. Again, sounds like it is up to the owners to make the decision now. Jayson Stark reporting that all first round games would be best-of-3 series in which all three games would be played at home ballpark of higher seed. According to ESPN's Marly Rivera: More details obtained by ESPN on the 2020 expanded playoffs structure approved by the MLBPA, subject to owners' approval: "The first three “seeds” in each league will go to regular season division winners. The next three “seeds” (4-6) will go to the teams who finished in second place; “seeds” 7-8 will go to the remaining teams with the best records. If tiebreakers are needed, arrangements will be made with no additional games to be played.
  12. From Buster Olney... As part of the 16-team expanded playoff proposal, the No. 1, 2, 3 seeds in each league— the Division winners— would pick their opponents among the other 5 teams, with a selection show.
  13. It’s sort of crazy to think that Mookie Betts has yet to play a single regular season game with Los Angeles, but is now highly likely to one day enter Cooperstown donning a Dodgers hat.
  14. You don’t see the “lose the glove over the fence” home runs very often. The legend of Babe Game-bino Gamel continues.
  15. My favorite fun fact about Carlos Rodón is that the Brewers drafted him 2011 out of high school, but obviously didn’t sign him. Three years later leading up to the draft he was in the running to go 1st overall. Someone asked Doug Melvin about him during an interview that year and he said he didn’t know who he was. I know the GM’s aren’t overly involved in the MLB Draft process, but that astonished me at the time, and I still think about it every time I see him pitch.
  16. ✅ Hiura Home Run ✅ Yelich Home Run I’m good, let’s start the regular season.
  17. Rooting for Jedd Gyorko is going to take some getting used to (the trick bag toss videos did help slightly).
  18. MLB and the MLBPA have until first pitch of tomorrow night’s Yankees-Nationals game (6:08pm CT) to expand the playoffs for 2020. Reports suggest they are again discussing the possibility of expanding from the normal 10-team playoff field to a 16-team playoff scenario. Curious if others are in favor of this? On one hand it significantly increases the Brewers playoff odds, but on the other it will seemingly water down the playoff field. I guess in a year when the small sample size will cause irregularities as it is, maybe it’s the right move to just include more teams and let them fight it out in an expanded playoff format.
  19. I started the game on the fence about robo umps, but I think I’m ready now.
  20. The Rockies have apparently since deleted the below Tweet:
  21. I am not sure why the MLB.com graphic has records listed, but I assume maybe that was the Brewers' record when Spring Training ended abruptly? Anyway, it’s the first game specific In-Game Thread since the NL Wild Card Game. Looking forward to having baseball back. A reminder that tonight’s game is being televised on Fox Sports Wisconsin.
