  1. It sounds like Ed Howard is likely to get pushed down the board to a team with a larger bonus pool. Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs said he still expects many senior signs that would typically be picked in rounds 7-10 to go in rounds 4-5 in order to help teams offset bonus pool spending overages in the early rounds. The draft is already incredibly short, so if that is the case there are going to be a lot of very talented players that are going to go undrafted over the next two days.
  2. This thread will be used to post all draft picks in order of their selection, as well as details of the picks, which we will add to in the coming days. A moderator will update the picks and player profiles. If you have comments/links about a player, please post them in the appropriate discussion thread. Bold indicates the player has signed. 1 (20). 2 (53). 3 (92). 4 (121). 5 (151).
  3. Please use this thread to share your thoughts, links, stories, pictures and anything else on the Brewers' picks from rounds 1 through 5. Please do not start separate threads to discuss the individual picks. Use this in-draft thread to talk about the picks, similar to a game thread. Yesterday the Brewers released approximate times for their draft selection in tonight's 1st round as well as Thursday's rounds 2-5.
  4. A few pre-draft thoughts... * Nick Gonzales looks like the most surefire future big league regular in this draft, IMO. His swing and ability to barrel the ball reminds me of Keston Hiura, and it’s hard to imagine the hit tool not carrying him through the minors quickly. * The college pitching is so, so deep that the Brewers could certainly walk away from this draft with a couple of future big league arms if they go that route with some of their picks. * I would probably take Ed Howard over Pete Crow-Armstrong (apparently known as PCA among to the cool kids), but either would be a nice addition to the Brewers farm system. * If I had to pick one player likely to be taken outside the top 50 selections that could develop into a future superstar it would be Yohandy Morales, a high school SS/3B from Miami. There is a lot to dream on with his profile. The Manny Machado comps might are a bit lofty, but you don’t have to squint too hard to see how a 6’-4” kid with a lanky, athletic frame that is already displaying raw power could skyrocket as he develops in a professional organization. * Two years ago the Cardinals picked 19th overall (took Nolan Gorman) and the Brewers 21st (Brice Turang). This year the Brewers are right ahead of the Cardinals (20th overall versus 21st). I will always associate these picks with one another since they’re made in such close proximity. * I am really looking forward to this draft, with the recent exodus of minor league players from the organization via cuts it will be nice to see some talent infused back into the system.
  5. A third publication in the past week has paired the Brewers with Georgia right-hander Cole Wilcox. CBS Sports: 2020 MLB Mock Draft: Arizona State slugger Spencer Torkelson goes No. 1 to Tigers 20. Milwaukee Brewers: RHP Cole Wilcox, Georgia ($3,242,900 slot value) Georgia's rotation will produce two first-round picks this year in Hancock and Wilcox. Wilcox has wicked stuff and command, though he can be very inconsistent from start-to-start. It's worth nothing that, as a draft-eligible sophomore, he has more leverage than the typical draftee. That could push him down even later in the first round as teams seek players they know they can sign quickly and easily. Our R.J. Anderson ranked Wilcox as the No. 30 prospect in the draft class.

  8. Game #36 - Brewers at Marlins - May 5, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 9, Marlins 1 Four Brewers hit home runs (Hiura, Smoak, Urias, Holt) and Brandon Woodruff scattered six hits and allowed just one run over 6.0 IP. Corbin Burnes pitched 2.0 scoreless innings and has now brought his ERA under 4 on the season. That’s quite a feat considering how badly he started the season. Speaking of bad starts, Christian Yelich went 0-for-5 in this game and has a batting average that’s dipped to .242.
  9. Game #35 - Brewers at Marlins - May 4, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Marlins 8, Brewers 2 Rough start to the beginning of this four game series versus the Marlins. Eric Lauer didn’t get out of the 1st inning and the Brewers never put up much of a fight. The only offensive highlights were a Yelich triple and a Smoak double. Old friends in the lineup for the Marlins included Jonathan Villar (2-for-4, RBI, 2 runs scored) and Jesus Aguilar (1-for-3, RBI, 1 run).
  10. Game #34 - Cardinals at Brewers - May 3, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 8, Cardinals 3 Brewers secure the series win and Ben Gamel tallies 6 RBIs. The only Brewers starting position player without a hit in this game was Christian Yelich. Yelich is now hitting just .252 on the season. The Cardinals did all of their damage against starter Freddy Peralta (4.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO), but the Brewers bullpen was stellar including two hitless innings from Devin Williams.
  11. Game #33 - Cardinals at Brewers - May 2, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Cardinals 4, Brewers 2 Brett Anderson entered the 9th inning with a 2-0 lead. He even retired two batters in the 9th inning before the wheels fell completely off. After allowing a pair of base runners Anderson was pulled from the game. Insert Josh Hader who walked three and allowed a hit. When the dust settled the Brewers had given up 4 runs in the 9th inning.
  12. Game #32 - Cardinals at Brewers - May 1, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 3, Cardinals 2 The Brewers pulled to within 1.0 games of the Cubs in the NL Central race. Justin Smoak had a pair of doubles and drove in a pair. Adrian Houser (2.91 ERA) continued his stellar season with 5.0 IP, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out five.
  13. Game #31 - Nationals at Brewers - April 30, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Nationals 6, Brewers 3 Easily Brandon Woodruff’s worst start of the season lasting just 1.2 IP and giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk. His season ERA has now jumped to 4.35 after the disastrous outing. The lone bright spots for the Brewers were Orlando Arcia’s home run (Arcia is hitting .367 on the season) and scoreless innings from both Corey Knebel (1.62 ERA for the season) and Alex Claudio (2.74 ERA).
  14. CBS Sports did a simulation of the proposed 2020 divisions... 10-team MLB divisions? Here's how 2020 season played out in simulation of potential realignment by R.J. Anderson Below are the simulated standings for the Central Division:
  15. Game #30 - Nationals at Brewers - April 29, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Nationals 6, Brewers 4 The Brewers took a 3-2 lead in the 5th inning on a Keston Hiura 2 RBI double, but the Brewers gave up a pair of runs in both the 7th (Alex Claudio) and 8th (Corbin Burnes) innings. Claudio was only credited with allowing one earned run as the other came as a result of a Hiura error. Eric Lauer threw 5.1 IP and allowed two runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. Lauer recorded 3 strikeouts, and has a 2.96 ERA on the season.
  16. Game #29 - Nationals at Brewers - April 28, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 9, Nationals 3 The Nationals dropped to just 10-18 on the season and in last place in a division that the Marlins currently lead. The bottom of the Brewers order remains extremely hot as Piña, Arcia, and Urias are all hitting well over .300 on the season. In this one both Arcia and Yelich had home runs. Familiar face, Eric Thames went 1-for-5 with a single and three strikeouts while playing RF for the Nationals. Thames is hitting just .189 on the season. Freddy Peralta lasted 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks, while striking out 5.
  17. Game #28 - Brewers at Rockies - April 26, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 8, Rockies 3 (10 innings) Brock Holt, Justin Smoak, and Luis Urias all had two hits apiece for the Brewers. Brett Anderson had arguably his best start of the year going 6.0 IP and allowing just one earned run while walking none and striking out six batters. The Brewers rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the 9th inning versus Scott Oberg, and then they broke things open in extra innings by putting up 5 runs in the 10th frame.
  18. Game #27 - Brewers at Rockies - April 25, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Rockies 4, Brewers 1
  19. Game #26 - Brewers at Rockies - April 24, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 7, Rockies 2 The Brewers followed up yesterday’s 14 hit performance with 13 hits today. For the second time this week Keston Hiura had a two home run game. This time he had a 2-run HR in the 1st inning and a solo shot in the 8th inning. Since their series opening loss in Pittsburgh the Brewers have rattled off three straight wins. At 15-11 overall the BRewers are now just 1.0 games back of both the Cubs and Cardinals for 1st place.
  20. Game #25 - Brewers at Pirates - April 23, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 6, Pirates 0 Eric Lauer tied the longest start for any Brewers starter this season. Brewers keep rolling and are now just 1 game back of the Cardinals and 2.5 games behind the Cubs.
  21. Game #24 - Brewers at Pirates - April 22, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 10, Pirates 2 The good news is Keston Hiura hit two home runs and tallied five RBIs. The bad news is Freddy Peralta suffered an oblique injury and is out indefinitely.
  22. Game #23 - Brewers at Pirates - April 21, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Pirates 4, Brewers 3 The last place Pirates came into the game on an 8-game losing streak, but a Brett Anderson start proved just what they needed to get their offense going early. The Brewers are now in 4th place in the NL Central at 12-11 overall.
  23. Game #22 - Brewers at Mets - April 19, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 8, Mets 5 Brewers salvage a game in New York and avoid the sweep heading into the off day. Yelich, Narváez, and Smoak all hit home runs. Houser lasted just 4.1 innings, giving up just 2 earned runs on 6 hits and 4 walks allowed. Hader notched his 8th save of the year.
  24. Game #21 - Brewers at Mets - April 18, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Mets 3, Brewers 2 The Crew, now 11-10 on the season, drops another one to the Mets at Citi Field.
  25. Game #20 - Brewers at Mets - April 17, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Mets 5, Brewers 1 Not much positive to say about this one, the Brewers mustered just 4 hits and never really got much of a threat going. On the positive side Arcia is batting over .400 on the season thus far (batting average!, not OPS).
