  1. Please do! This certainly qualifies as a “more the merrier” situation. Hopefully a fun exercise/distraction for a few folks.
  2. If you load the screenshots into a flickr account I think you should be able to resize the files from there. That is what I’ve been using.

  4. Well as far as I can tell MLB The Show doesn’t have Josh Lindblom in this year’s game at all, so it appears they made an even bigger mistake. Sort of frustrating, I guess we’ll pretend he’s hurt.

  6. Sorry for the delay, but I come with good news from day one of the MLB The Show simulation. First a little background, I don’t play video games much at this point in my life, but I decided to purchase MLB The Show this year sort of as a novelty with the season likely being cut in half as the best case scenario. Also, this year’s game actually includes each organizations full roster of minor leaguers in Double-A and Triple-A which is pretty cool (but admittedly not great for the under compensated MiLB players). I‘ve decided to run a daily simulation of the Brewers season on MLB The Show and will do my best to post the results here. I’m not actually playing any of these games (so my lack of gaming ability doesn’t get in the way), just running a simulated game every day of the originally scheduled season. I am also not going to restart any of these games if they aren’t going the Brewers way (no mulligans), just letting the computer do its thing and reporting the genuine results. The only things I’ll have some control over are setting the lineup and rotation (I guess transactions and 40-man roster moves if it comes to that). I will post a brief recap of each game, and an occasional screenshot. Maybe at some point I’ll be sophisticated enough to post an actual highlight. I will also occasionally post the league standings and stats leaders. Game #1 - Cubs at Brewers (Opening Day) - March 26, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim) Final Score: Brewers 7, Cubs 6 Game Recap: Brewers entered the 7th inning up 3-1. The Cubs then got to the Brewers bullpen including a 3-run home run off of Corbin Burnes. The Brewers responded with a big inning that resulted in 4 runs being charged to reliever Rowan Wick. Brewers bats were very balanced, only Christian Yelich had multiple hits (2-for-5, both hits were doubles). Newcomers Avisaíl García and Omar Narváez each hit home runs. The only Brewers starting position player held hitless was Keston Hiura. The Brewers held on for dear life late in the game as the Cubs added two more against reliever J.P. Feyereisen to make it a one run game. Josh Hader closed the door on the Cubs which included two strikeouts (and one walk) in his inning worked. Extra Note: One minor complaint about the Brewers uniforms in MLB The Show, they still have the Brewers old ball and glove logo on the hats. I actually prefer that logo anyway, but a slight oversight by the developers.

  8. It’s obviously up to you, but I would certainly enjoy seeing the results if you’re willing to do it. I think at this point “waiting” until the weekend for some entertainment sounds like 5 minutes compared to the wait for semi-normal life to resume. I will post my first day of simulated MLB The Show results tomorrow for those interested.

  10. Starting a thread for those interested in sharing simulated 2020 baseball season results each day of the season while we are waiting on actual baseball to hopefully occur at some point. This can include anything from MLB the Show to Out of The Park computer simulations (JosephC mentioned doing so each day with OOTP in another thread). I will follow-up with a daily post of my own regarding the MLB the Show simulated season I am planning to do each day of what was supposed to be the actual baseball season. As a primer, ESPN recently did an MLB The Show simulation for over the next decade in which the Brewers and Twins matched up in the 2022 World Series (the Twins won in 7 games unfortunately). Also, former Brewers prospect K.J. Harrison became a World Series MVP with the Nationals in 2027, and Isan Diaz was acquired by the Tigers and became a key piece to the dynasty they built by the end of the 2020’s. In addition to ESPN, Yahoo also recently did their own 2020 MLB The Show simulation. In it the Reds won the division and the Cubs captured the second wild card spot. The good news for Brewers fans is Brent Suter made the All-Star team, J.P. Feyereisen won the NL Rookie of the Year award, and in the subsequent offseason the Brewers traded for Miguel Sano and signed Mookie Betts to an 8-year contract, mirroring team control for both Betts and Yelich through 2028. Baseball Reference is running a daily simulation powered by OOTP 21 linked below: Baseball Reference 2020 Simulated Season Daily Digest The Athletic simulated the Brewers season: We simulated the 2020 Brewers season. Will it be another wild September? FanGraphs Ben Clemens is managing the Brewers via OOTP 21 including readers’ polls on various team related decisions: We’re Managing the (Fake) Brewers! 12. It's very likely that I will be buying the new version of Out of the Park Baseball. If people are interested, I could set up a season sim and just sim one game on the same date as the actual game was to be played and post the results on this board. I'm like most people, I just don't see any meaningful baseball happening over the next three months. I like this idea and have been thinking something similar, lets setup a separate thread for simulated baseball results of the 2020 season.

  14. Thanks for doing the math, I absolutely believe every one of those teams was destined to finish somewhere in the 80-89 win range. It’s unfortunate we’ll never know how it would have played out over a full season.
  15. This thread made me think of the time Robin Yount made a leaping catch at the wall to rob a home run and end an inning. It was a televised game and when they came back from commercial they had to explain that the umpire asked Yount for the ball and he couldn’t produce it. I can’t find the footage anywhere, but did find this reference on Reddit that I believe is actually inaccurate: In my memory of the play it didn’t occur at the Metrodome like Merrill’s book apparently suggests. Some other folks on Reddit speculated it was this 1992 game versus the Twins at County Stadium. I don’t think it was that game either because I almost certain it was a night game (I know the play occurred very late in the game, and I thought it happened in extra innings), but I could certainly be misremembering since I was 9 or 10 at the time. Edit: Just realized Durwood Merrill didn’t even cover that 1992 game which was also opening day, and certainly not the game where Yount faked a catch. Anyone else remember the details of this great (non) catch?
  16. At the time of the NCAA Tournament cancellation COVID-19 wasn’t yet deemed a force majeure event. Thus all of the events canceled earlier this week were done so without any guarantees of future insurance payouts. Now that we are in a national state of emergency I believe that will change and force majeure contract clauses should apply, but don’t know for certain. I think it now falls under the “act of Government” part of the definition more so than being an “act of God”.
  17. Value to a given team is often situation specific, and the closer it gets to putting you over the hump of being a playoff team the more valuable added wins become for your team. A 5+ WAR player has more value to a team already projected as a mid-80s win team than a team projected to win 60 something games. For instance, the Orioles paying the “market rate” for a Yelich type player would not return the same value as it would to a team like the Brewers who are probably near, or just below, a .500 team without Yelich. Nolan Arenado is another good example. The Rockies aren’t going to the playoffs this year even if he continues to be a 5-6 WAR player. Lets say he produces 5 WAR this year. They are paying him $35 million, so approximately $7 million per WAR. If you just plucked him off the Rockies and put him on a team like the Nationals (and he produced that same 5 WAR) he would likely prove to be a better return on investment for them (i.e. more valuable) even though his WAR produced is the exact same.
  18. I know Milwaukee native David Samson may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but this 8-minute video of him explaining how he negotiated Christian Yelich’s first contract during Spring Training in 2015 is pretty remarkable if accurate. LINK to Video Tweet from David Samson Another takeaway is that he confirms that Yelich was one of the young players that were indicated as being influenced negatively by Jeff Baker, referenced in this article from the time of his release: Jeff Baker released because of spreading 'anti-front office' message
  19. I read that article earlier today, and it’s very encouraging despite the small sample size. Granted Andrew McCutchen is likely to pull the averages of that group down, but it’s surprising on the whole how relatively “safe” outfielders who put up 20-30 WAR during their age 24-27 seasons have been on the whole (in terms of not completely dropping off a cliff). It seems like his worst case scenario would be having something along the lines of a Dale Murphy drop-off in his 30’s, some of which was attributed to an arthritic left knee in Murphy’s case. On a side note, I also apparently never fully appreciated how good Rickey Henderson was in his early-to-mid 30’s (including a 9.9 WAR season at age-31).
  20. Some random thoughts on the Yelich extension... 1) I agree that being smart about trading players when their value is near its peak for long-term sustainability is an important necessity for an organization like the Brewers... EXCEPT... 2) Yelich is very much on a Hall of Fame trajectory, an arc that looks fairly steady at this point. His value to the organization supersedes just the on-field success. Winning is very important, but at some point you do need to have an identity beyond the laundry your team is wearing. Yelich’s long term presence within the organization has benefits that go far beyond WAR accumulation. One of the things that got me hooked on Brewers baseball was my 10 year old self rooting for a mid-30s Robin Yount all summer long. The stories my father told about seeing a teenaged Robin Yount play SS the first time he attended a Brewers game at County Stadium bonded us, and he had an impact on our relationship with the sport and our team. Yount was a player that transcended across generations of fans, and their relationship with the Brewers. Yelich can absolutely become the most meaningful player this organization has had since Robin Yount. 3) The Brewers could have absolutely signed Anthony Rendon if they had wanted to. I am very happy with the Yelich extension instead, but I will still daydream about the potential offense they could have fielded the next few season with both Yelich and Rendon in the middle of the lineup. 4) Yelich has seemingly chosen financial certainty over the potential to maximize future earnings twice now in his career. Risk assessment decisions like that aren’t made with the benefit of hindsight, and I actually think he made the best decision at the time in both instances.
  21. Bummed about the YouTube TV news because I was about to pull the trigger on switching to that option (currently have DirecTV). I really wish I could just pay for a version of MLB.tv that allowed in-market viewing of Brewers games.
  22. This was my first thought as well. The timing of this extension following a September run where Peralta was lights out in the bullpen, and on the eve of a season where Peralta is going to be unveiling a new pitch (slider) may not be a coincidence. If the Brewers believe he is on the verge of a possible breakout this is a great time to “gamble” on a deal like this which includes team options for additional years of control. I really hope this ultimately proves to have foreshadowed big steps forward for Peralta in the 2020 season.
  23. Watching Thames hit for the Nationals last night was a little strange, and today’s Spring Training pitching matchup is also going to take some getting used to...
