It was the fourth time in August he has had a multi-hit game and he is now batting .385 this month (10-for-26). Phil Bickford's debut was highlighted by 5 strikeouts. The game log of batters faced is documented below. Freddy Peralta allowed 2 home runs and 6 total hits in his 2.0 innings pitched. Anthony Pereira out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Phil Bickford to first baseman Fidel Pena. Garrett Mattlage to 2nd. Rashad Brown grounds out, third baseman George Iskenderian to first baseman Fidel Pena. Ben Verlander walks. Pitching Change: Josh Uhen replaces Phil Bickford.
  2. While Mendez would be a great pick-up, there appears to be a segment of Rangers fans that think their top remaining pitching prospect is RHP Ariel Jurado. Originally from Panama, Jurado turned 20 in January and is now pitching well in AA.
  3. Final: Dunedin 2, Brevard County 1 Late run gives Dunedin sweep By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball *** Brevard County Box Score The teams combined for 22 hits (12 for Dunedin, 10 for Brevard County), but clutch hits were few and far between as only 3 runners crossed home plate. Among Manatees batters the top performers included George Iskenderian (2-for-4) who was tagged out at the plate in the 6th inning as well Fidel Pena (2-for-4), Dustin Houle (2-for-4), and Blake Allemand (3-for-4). The only extra base hit was a double from Elvis Rubio (1-for-3, 2B, BB). As noted in the game story Jon Perrin managed to stay in the game after being hit off the ankle with a come-backer. Perrin lasted 6.0 innings giving up 8 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and striking out 1 batter. Perrin ranks 8th among ERA leaders in the Florida State League. Over his 91.2 innings in the FSL he has a 2.65 ERA. Brevard County Game Log In what appeared to be a promising inning including three hits the Manatees were only able to knock in one run. Brevard County Bottom of the 6th George Iskenderian singles on a ground ball to shortstop Gunnar Heidt. Elvis Rubio doubles (10) on a line drive to left fielder D. J. Davis. George Iskenderian to 3rd. David Denson reaches on a fielder's choice out, second baseman Jorge Flores to catcher Danny Jansen. George Iskenderian out at home. Elvis Rubio to 3rd. Blake Allemand singles on a line drive to center fielder Anthony Alford. Elvis Rubio scores. David Denson to 2nd. Jose Cuas called out on strikes. Dustin Houle lines out to left fielder D. J. Davis *** The wait for recently acquired RHP Phil Bickford's debut is over as he is scheduled to take the mound on Monday. The game versus Lakeland begins at 3:00pm CT.
  4. Game One Final: Dunedin 1, Brevard County 0 Game Two Final: Dunedin 4, Brevard County 3 Dunedin sweeps doubleheader from Manatees By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball *** Brevard County Game One Box Score Earlier the question was asked why Kodi Medeiros only went 1.0 inning, the reason is that after his first inning of work there was a 2 hour and 45 minute rain delay. In his one inning of work Medeiros gave up 1 hit, 2 walks and 1 run which was enough to be tagged with the loss. Pitchers Javi Salas and Clint Terry each went 3.0 innings after the delay, and both had identical lines allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 3 strike outs. Brevard County Game One Game Log The Manatees managed just two hits in the first game which included a triple for Corey Ray (1-for-3, 3B). Ray also had a couple of nice defensive plays including a diving catch as well as a leaping catch at the wall in the 6th inning (photos of both available in the game story). The Manatees did make one final two-out rally attempt in the bottom of the 7th with a runner reaching third base on an error, but Dustin Houle struck out to end the game. *** Brevard County Game Two Box Score The Manatees bats were quiet throughout the night, just three hits in the late night affair. The big blast was a 3-run home run off the bat of Elvis Rubio (1-for-3, HR). Brevard County Game Two Game Log Cody Ponce struck out the first four batters he faced in the game. Over 5.0 innings Ponce gave up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, and struck out 6 batters.
  5. The video of Rosenthal's comments is linked on the previous page for those interested. I had been trying to not get my hopes up too high prior to actually knowing the identity of the 3rd prospect, but Rosenthal's information makes it difficult to temper excitement and resist dwelling on the top tier of the Rangers system.
  6. Good catch, here is the VIDEO Link. He says has been told the third player is a significant piece, perhaps along the lines of the other two players involved in the trade.
  7. Brevard County game will be made up on Saturday as part of a doubleheader (first game at 4:05pm CT). In other news, Lewis Brinson with a first inning double in Colorado Springs.
  8. It sure looked like Brinson had a third hit on an infield single to the SS that he beat out, but was called out. It looked like he was pretty clearly safe and both Brinson and the manager argued the call to no avail.
  9. Corey Ray adjusting well to the FSL Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball
  10. Final: Brevard County 4, Daytona 3 Ray's first homer lifts Manatees to victory By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball As usual for a home game there are some excellent photos available within the game story. *** Brevard County Box Score Have a day Corey Ray (2-for-3, 2B, HR, BB) who hit his first professional home run. The performance put Ray oh so close to eclipsing the .600 OPS mark (now at .599). Remember, he is just 125 at-bats into his pro career. The other multi hit performances came from George Iskenderian (2-for-4). David Denson went 1-for-3 in his Manatees debut. For the 4th straight outing Marcos Diplan went 5.0 innings. Over those 20 innings he has amassed 18 strike outs which isn't too shabby for 19 year old in High-A. Tonight Diplan gave up 4 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks and recorded struck out 5. Brevard County Game Log The Manatees manufactured 3 runs to take a 3-2 lead in the 7th. Brevard County Bottom of the 7th George Iskenderian singles on a line drive to left fielder Angelo Gumbs. Clint Coulter singles on a line drive to center fielder Brian O'Grady. George Iskenderian to 2nd. Pitching Change: Michael Sullivan replaces Jose Lopez. Blake Allemand singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Michael Sullivan. George Iskenderian scores. Clint Coulter scores. Blake Allemand to 3rd. Throwing error by pitcher Michael Sullivan. David Denson singles on a ground ball to center fielder Brian O'Grady. Blake Allemand scores. Elvis Rubio grounds into a double play, third baseman Gavin LaValley to second baseman Shed Long to first baseman Avain Rachal. David Denson out at 2nd. Jose Cuas strikes out swinging. The big news of the night came after the game when Clint Coulter was informed he was being promoted to the Biloxi Shuckers. That topic is currently being discussed in this thread.
  11. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Lewis Brinson 3. Luis "Lulu" Ortiz 4. Isan Diaz 5. Josh Hader 6. Phil Bickford 7. Trent Clark 8. Brett "Maverick" Phillips 9. Corey Ray 10. Cody Ponce 11. Marcos Diplan 12. Gilbert Lara 13. Jorge Lopez 14. Brandon Woodruff (Brag Alert: Only two people had Woodruff on their preseason top 25 polls, myself and ZBTMP both had him #22) 15. Lucas Erceg 16. Freddy Peralta 17. Jake Gatewood 18. Jacob Nottingham 19. Nathan Kirby 20. Demi Orimoloye 21. Devin Williams 22. Kodi Medeiros 23. Miguel Diaz 24. Corbin Burnes 25. Monte Harrison

  13. Game One Final: Daytona 12, Brevard County 0 Game Two Final: Daytona 5, Brevard County 1 Daytona dominates doubleheader against Manatees By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball *** Brevard County Game One Box Score Starting pitcher Javier Salas got banged around in his 2.0 innings (9 hits, 8 runs, 6 earned runs, 1 walk, 1 strikeout). Brevard County Game One Game Log Corey Ray (1-for-2, 2B, BB) started the game off with a double, but unfortunately it was 1 of just 2 hits for the Manatees in the 7-inning contest. *** Brevard County Game Two Box Score Game #2 starter Bubba Derby struggled once again, ultimately giving up 5 runs over 5.0 innings. Brevard County Game Two Game Log After just 1 hit in the first game it appeared there was no where to go but up! Well unfortunately, it got worse. Just 1 hit recorded for Brevard County and it came from the second batter of the game. The good news is the lonely hit was a home run for Blake Allemand.
  14. Transcript of David Stearns answer during tonight's broadcast regarding the PTBNL: "We will certainly get a third player. This is a fairly normal part of a lot of trades that can happen in season where it just gives us a little more time to scout a select grouping of players to see which one fits best in the construct of this trade. We'll have the remainder of the minor league season to determine who that player is. We certainly expect that it is going to be another very quality prospect in our organization."
  15. Current trade + 1 of the 4 as PTBNL Without knowing for certain the identity of the PTBNL it is tough to definitively answer questions about it, but right now assuming a quality third piece is still coming I am pretty happy with the current trade.
  16. Final: Brevard County 4, Charlotte 1 Perrin's complete game earns Manatees series split By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball *** Brevard County Box Score There is plenty of buzz surrounding the pitching talent in Brevard County, and Jon Perrin reminds us tonight not to leave his name out of the conversation. His complete game gem is nicely documented in the story and includes an insightful quote from Perrin about locating his fastball, change-up, and slider for strikes. After giving up just 3 hits and 0 walks, Perrin's WHIP drops to 1.17 in 85.2 innings in Brevard County. That ranks him 9th best in the Florida State League among qualified pitchers. Not quite as impressive as his 0.89 WHIP in Wisconsin this year, but still quite good nevertheless. Top hitting performances included George Iskenderian (2-for-3, 3B, BB) and Blake Allemand (2-for-4). Brevard County Game Log The Manatees got off to a fast start including a leadoff double by Corey Ray. Brevard County Bottom of the 1st Corey Ray hits a ground-rule double (4) on a fly ball to right field. Fidel Pena flies out to center fielder Thomas Milone. George Iskenderian singles on a ground ball to third baseman Alec Sole. Corey Ray to 3rd. Clint Coulter called out on strikes. Blake Allemand singles on a ground ball to second baseman Andrew Velazquez. Corey Ray scores. George Iskenderian to 2nd. Elvis Rubio singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jace Conrad. George Iskenderian scores. Blake Allemand to 3rd. Wendell Rijo reaches on a fielding error by third baseman Alec Sole. Blake Allemand scores. Elvis Rubio to 2nd. Jose Cuas strikes out swinging.
  17. Wow, thanks again! Regarding the last paragraph, if Stearns knows who he prefers but is going to let the Rangers assume the injury risk through the end of the season do you think that suggests he has a pitcher in mind as his top selection?
  18. I think it is safe to say wildcat2237 ran away with the "BF.net Insider of the Deadline" award. I tried to thoroughly catch-up on the 21 pages in this thread and did not see anyone re-list the players that wildcat's friend was questioned about yesterday morning (I may have missed it). If not, below are the players from the original post, and while it is never safe to assume it at least seems possible that the eventual PTBNL is somewhere on that list. My first guess was Payano for reasons already stated previously regarding his injury status, but there are other guys on that list worth getting excited about.
  19. I think this was a keen approach on the Brewers part. Instead of commiting to a third player today you have time to let your scouting staff fully vet through the options. Not to mention you will have more information in September than you do today. Also possible that one or more of the players on the list are recovering from injury.
  20. Will add some more relevant thoughts to the discussion later, but in the words of Ice Cube, "today was a good day."
  21. This is from Jon Heyman during the overnight hours. Not necessarily any new information, but hopefully a life preserver for this thread.
  22. Final: Brevard County 7, Charlotte 6 Pena homer leads Manatees to improbable victory By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball *** Brevard County Box Score A little strange to see Cody Ponce record only 1 strike out over 5.0 innings, the fewest he has had in a start of more than 3 innings this year. Ponce gave up 7 hits, 3 earned runs, and 1 walk. Charlotte once again wasn't afraid to run on the Manatees. They swiped 3 bases with Ponce on the mound and a 4th after he left the game. All 4 hits for the Manatees were produced by the first two hitters in the lineup, leadoff hitter Corey Ray (1-for-4) and the offensive story of game, Fidel Pena (3-for-4, 2B, HR). As mentioned in the game story Pena didn't have quite the success behind the plate that he did swinging the bat. Brevard County Game Log Down 6-2, the Manatees use miscues and one big blast to put 5 runs on the board to take the lead in the 7th inning. Brevard County Bottom of the 7th Jose Cuas hit by pitch. Wendell Rijo reaches on a force attempt, fielding error by shortstop Andrew Velazquez. Jose Cuas to 2nd. Blake Allemand reaches on a fielding error by shortstop Andrew Velazquez. Jose Cuas scores. Wendell Rijo to 2nd. Malik Collymore reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by shortstop Andrew Velazquez. Wendell Rijo to 3rd. Blake Allemand to 2nd. Pitching Change: Ian Gibaut replaces Jeff Howell. Corey Ray grounds out, shortstop Andrew Velazquez to first baseman Alec Sole. Wendell Rijo scores. Blake Allemand to 3rd. Malik Collymore to 2nd. Fidel Pena homers (3) on a fly ball to right field. Blake Allemand scores. Malik Collymore scores. George Iskenderian flies out to right fielder Grant Kay. Clint Coulter strikes out swinging.
  23. He's interesting. One of the better looking prospects in the bottom half of the Ranger's top 30 list. Does your friend have any information about Payano being on the disabled list? Trying to find injury information on minor league players is a real pain in the behind. Was wondering this as well, looks like his last outing was July 7th when he came out of the game after just 1.2 innings. Anyone know what type injury he sustained?
  24. Great stuff Wildcat, and a nice group of players mentioned. Regarding Gallo, Evan Grant's article is online, Trade deadline: Why Joey Gallo may never be more than shadow of Rangers' prospects past
