  1. A big difference is Olt had some fairly significant vision issues that first came up in college and then affected him again down the road.
  2. Jim Thome hit .332/.441/.585 in AAA, so..... Can't you at least just let us have this dream for 5 minutes!
  3. Let the great debate continue, is he Russell Branyan or Jim Thome?
  4. Never mind, I figured it out. Ortiz and Garza worked out together the year before Ortiz was drafted.
  5. Good to hear. I'd prefer Mendez. Some injury concerns/projectability concerns with Ortiz. More details about Texas' prospects here: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016?list=tex Random question, does anyone remember what the connection is between Luis Ortiz and Matt Garza? I know they know each other, but can't remember the exact connection off hand.
  6. If he is just "messing around" it would be great to seem him actually traded later today.
  7. I mentioned to my wife at dinner last night that the Brewers had traded Lucroy. Her response: "oh". Clear implication: "I don't care". I mentioned this morning that he had blocked the trade and she just came right out with "yeah, I don't care". Driving home from the Brewers game last night I asked my wife to put "Lucroy" in a Twitter search and read me the Tweets. I could instantly feel equal parts of judgement and disappointment filling the air.
  8. http://e08595.medialib.glogster.com/media/2f/2f1d924deac18f272efc1dc2784ef8ac1edbf0e1e0fafdbf477042adbccee3ba/24-show-goes-carbon-neutral.jpg Trade deadline is at 3:00pm CT on Monday! Next 24 hours could make a significant impact on the future success of the organization.
  9. Based on what we are coming to find out about the strength of the relief pitching market, [sarcasm]who would the Rangers consider the centerpiece if they acquired Jonathan Lurcoy and Will Smith?[/sarcasm]
  10. For those that can't click the links, we already posted the first, here is the second... Also this from Jon Heyman...
  11. Discussion underway in the Transactions / Rumors forum's The Brand New Lucroy Trade Thread, but looks like something with the Rangers may be getting close, one report mentions deal entering the "final phase" (Edit: some others disputing how close it actually is at this point).
  12. It is getting closer to happening per Will Carroll...
  13. I would do a trade straight up for Devers or Benintendi before I would explore anything beyond that with the Red Sox. Kopech has been coming out and putting up first inning triple digits, but his velocity has reportedly fallen off pretty quickly after that. Also has shown control issues and has abandoned his change-up in some starts. I think he is way too risky to make the centerpiece of a Lucroy trade. EDIT: Yes, I realize based on the market we are hearing about the Red Sox likely aren't making the guys I mentioned available.
  14. If it is a package (Lucroy+Reliever) 2-3 of these guys being included would get me fairly excited... Luis Ortiz, RHP Yohander Mendez, LHP Leody Taveras, OF Ronald Guzman, 1B But ultimately the thing I try to remind myself is I can follow and study these guys as closely as possible and still don't have 1/1,000th of the information the teams have available to them on these players.
  15. Before this thread gets locked and moved to it's final resting place in WOAH SOLVDD infamy, here is another look at the propects that would have been included, Bernie Pleskoff's Scouting analysis of (now vetoed) Lucroy deal to Indians. I am going to go on the record by saying out of this package I think Chang ultimately goes on to have the best professional career of the group. He strikes me as player who is still very much developing and refining his skills. I would not be shocked to see him turn into a very solid hitter that can thrive as a 3B.
  16. This seems like exactly what it is boiling down to. His goal is to maximize his free agent value and he has a lot more perceived value to teams as a full-time catcher than a C/DH/1B.
  17. He is banking on his likely one and only significant free agent contract coming over the Winter of 2017-18. It doesn't help his $$ value to be perceived as a part-time catcher.
  18. I agree. I am not going to claim they "must" trade him, but with the awkwardness surrounding this situation right now I have to think Stearns and his staff are feeling the pressure to get a deal done over the next day. At least this didn't all go down on Monday without enough time to explore alternatives.
  19. Regardless of how passionate you may be about your hot take, I would advise never starting a post with "No one here gets it". State your opinions without making negative generalizations about others sharing their opinions.
  20. I am going to guess the Dodgers or Red Sox sweep in with an offer on Lucroy in the next 24 hours. Also, the Cubs were reportedly the "mystery team", so there's that.
  21. I think I am going to get a Kickstarter going to fund a trade deadline reality show, anyone else want in? This is so crazy, unfortunately it takes away the most obvious buyer from the market. While it seems like they HAVE to trade him now in one sense since it will be a little awkward having him around after nixing a trade, also don't necessarily want to be backed into a corner on accepting a low ball offer for him with 1.5 years remaining.
