  1. Obviously the Brewers should trade him this year and restock. They should also trade Krod, Marcum, Wolf, Morgan, and Ramirez and possibly Aoki (he should have some really good value right now). All of those guy would seriously be able to reload the system. Then you get a full half season to evaluate Estrada, Fiers, Thronburg, Rogers (pitching GREAT all of the sudden), and Peralta (ditto). Also, regular at bats to evaluate Green, Bianchi, Schafer, and Gindl. Then, this is the part that I think would be neat, with all of that saved payroll and anticipation of Weeks likely being traded if hes playing better next season to clear way for Scooter, the brewers sign Greinke as a FA. They would then have the money, they would know what they have to fill the rotation, they will know what they have in some of our other prospects, and they wont have to give up a first/second if protected round pick to sign a top flight FA. I didnt think about this till tonight, but I guess a lot of contenders are looking for 3b help, so Ramirez is a legit trade candidate. So, why not just give up the season (done already anyway) unload Greinke for prospects and then take your chances trying to sign him as a FA, same odds as getting him to sign an extension and this way you get a good load of prospects for him and you might still get him back because you will have the money to sign him.
  2. Just thought I would point this out because I havent heard anyone mention him or talk about him at all. Kentrail Davis had three hits tonight, I know his ba is still probably under 260 for the year, but he has to be arounnd 290 for the last two months! I think hes a guy that most people have just decided has failed so we stop paying attention to him. For his third year in pro ball hitting 290ish for a two month stretch in AA is something to get encouraged about. Heres to hope that he can still pan out.
  3. hmm, well now I am not sure about Narvy. Peralta has put together 3 very good starts in a row and I really think thats what you look for. You know the talent is there, the stuff is there, and now its coming together again. Sometimes i think that these guys are fighting a bigger mental battle than they are a physical one, with all of the trade rumors and likely open rotation spots I think willy is sniffing a big league opportunity. Rogers had a good start, and okay start, and tonight a dominant start. Again, terrible year, missed opportunity and nothing to fight for... until a potential big league spot and now hes throwing 98 and tonight went 7 with 7k no earned and only need 74 pitches to get there. With him too, you know the talent is there, he has stuff, so ERA isnt a relevant number in a lot of ways. IMO when you know that he has what it takes talent wise then it comes down to how hes going at the moment, currently both guys are pitching well.
  4. I dont think they should have a hard time filling out their rotation... at some point they need to see what they have in some of these guys. But, to start, we need to keep in mind that next year isnt likely a contention year, so filling out the rotation isnt so daunting. Yoga = $8 mil Narveson = $1.5 - $2 mil / first year of arby Estrada = $ 1 - $1.5 mil / first year of arby Fiers = 400k Peralta/Thornburg/Rogers = 400k Theres enough established/potential talent there to use a predestined down year to see what you have.
  5. Sorry about my post/vent a few days ago about the bullpen, I just needed to let it out in a forum of brewer people (live in Oklahoma now). I actually think, individually, our bullpen guys are not bad, but as a group they are just really bad right now. So, with the deadline approaching, I think that we may see not just Krod but guys like loe and parra traded. I know a lot of contending teams would like to have a proven GB specialist or lefty that throws mid 90's with a reasonable ERA. Its just unclear who would get called up and how the trades will impact the roster in regards to incomming players. Right now I am in the sell camp... I think Wolf would bring something back, Krod, loe, and parra all have value. I would love for greinke to be resigned, but its unlikely so I think he should then be traded; that deal may have a reliever included. Marcum should be traded also, sure hope he comes off the DL in time, and his deal might include a reliever. I expect the pen to be better in the second half.
  6. How many teams cant call a nine run lead safe? and that when they run their best guys out of the pen.
  7. Sorry, but i need a vent. How can the brewers expect to do anything at all this year when their pen cant even hold for 9 (NINE!!!!!!) runs over three innings (they gave it back in two!)??
  8. This thread is convenient because I have texted the booth about whether he will possibly get a look and about how his defense is. neither got answered so i did research myself.... apparently his defense is good, but he has a slightly below average throwing arm. Here is a scouting report I found: Bianchi was the 50th overall pick in the 2005 draft. This is what BA wrote about him. One area scout said that right now, Bianchi is a better pure player than Virginia shortstop Justin Upton, the No. 1 prospect in this years draft. On the year, Bianchi hit .575-13-37 in just 61 at-bats. His tools dont profile nearly as well as Uptons but hes a true baseball grunt a good, solid offensive shortstop with outstanding instincts who gets the most out of his ability. He runs the 60-yard dash in 6.7 seconds. His hands are quick to the ball and he has a line drive stroke, though limited power potential. He has quick hands for a middle infielder, but lacks the arm strength desired for shortstop and almost certainly will end up at second base. Bianchis stock has risen rapidly this spring to a point where hes a now a third- or fourth-round talent, and he may need to go that high to justify buying him away from a scholarship to North Carolina State. Hope this helps!
  9. Im just looking to grab some of your thoughts here. I was really excited that we got Tommy Toledo in the draft when we did, everything that I could find on him said that he was one of the most projectable college arms in the draft, and I assumed that he had a relatively higher ceiling than his college numbers suggested. But, I was under the impression that the young man was a starter. With his pretty incredible success, so far, in a relief role at Wisconsin, is it time for him to get a shot at starting? With guys like claudio vargas and seth mcclung getting starts in our system I can imagine there wouldn't be room somewhere to try a younger guy with some stuff. At this point I am hoping for a Lamantange like first full season; dominate relief your way to AA and then get a chance to start. Anyway, thought maybe someone would have some good insight on the guy. Maybe why he isnt starting, if he has the pitches to start and so on. Thanks!
  10. Would like to get some thoughts on this guy. The beginning of last year a lot of people, including myself, were clamoring for him to get bumped to high A from low A. What was frustrating was that the front office seemingly waited until he cooled off before they bumped him, I am a firm believer that you bump a guy when hes hot so he can carry that confidence to the next level and tougher competition; I believe it serves them well. Then when Austin got to high A he got shelled repeatedly, and I got shelled with "I told you so's." I am not saying here that he is any better than he showed in the second half of last season, but with a start like last season and the start hes off to now, I am wondering if the talent is there and maybe his arm was abused a little in college?? Does anyone know anything about his program or his workload, because his numbers are really looking more or less like he faded rather than he was over matched in high A. That leads me to believe that in his first full season maybe his arm got tired because of some previous abuse or something... Let me know what you guys think about that and about his potential, if any.
  11. Hey guys, I thought most likely some of you would help me out with an MIA page. There are quite a few miner leaguers that I cant find right now, and they are players of at least some note. so I will list some that I cant find and I am sure you all will be able to name some others. I know Mark Rogers is suspended but I will add him for someone who doesnt know: Mark Rogers: finishing suspension should be back soon AAA Eric Arnett: Andre Lamantange: I was really excited about this guy, know he was hurt last season Del Howell: Brooks Hall: Maxwell Walla: Daniel Keller: Joel Peirce: Nic Bucci: Maverick Lasker: Cam Garfield: Malcom Dowell: Micheal Reed: Nick Rameriz: Cody Scarpetta: I know is on the DL, right? D'vo Richardson: Chris Dennis: Hiram Burgos: I might have seen him in relief? I mean this is a pretty promising group of young players and I didnt even touch some of the better relievers that we have that I have not seen on any rosters or heard anything about, any help or additions would be greatly appreciated!!
  12. As much as i hate to say it, that would be an improvement. I love marcum, but just think... he could net a lawrie type prospect and hes most likely gone next year anyways. though i would lean much more toward trading wolf. He is the ULTIMATE sell high right now and it seems like everyone is ignoring that, the guy had what will likely be the best season he will have until he retires and there are plenty of teams looking for an established lefty. It just makes sense, it will also be a big payroll relief.
  13. Coke/Pepsi, Mtn Dew/Mello Yello...who cares? Pepsi is a big deal because they are one of the few companies willing to invest in the city of Milwaukee. While I was at UWM both us and Marquette had a deal with Pepsi to start club football teams under a 5 year deal, with Pepsi covering the cost. If the teams grew and were successful Pepsi committed to build a downtown stadium for the two teams to share. I dont know what happened to the deal but Pepsi didnt the same thing with UConn football a few years back. I think it would probably be a deal killer if they lost the MP sponsership.
  14. Feel like I forgot somebody... but not sure... Oh well I am comfortable with my list.
  15. Mine might seem a little crazy to some, but its how I feel. One player I am sure to have higher than anyone else is there because I have seen him a few times now and every single game he has been the most impressive player on the field both offensively and defensively. 1. Tyler Thornburg 2. Willy Peralta 3. Logan Schafer 4. Taylor Jungmann 5. Taylor Green 6. Jed Bradley 7. Scooter Gennett 8. Caleb Gindl 9. Mark Rogers 10. Cody Scarpetta 11. Jorge Lopez 12. Michael Fiers 13. Amaury Rivas 14. Yadiel Rivera 15. Kyle Heckathorn 16. Kentrail Davis 17. Nicholas Bucci 18. Jimmy Nelson 19. Andre Lamontange 20. De'vontre Richardson 21. Santo Manzillo 22. Orlando Arcia 23. Khris Davis 24. Maxwel Walla 25. Mike McClendon 26. Brooks Hall 27. Joel Pierce 28. David Goforth 29. Hunter Morris 30. Drew Gagon 31.Tyler Roberts 32. Eric Arnett 33. Eric Farris 34. Tommy Toledo 35. Evan Anundsen 36. Brock Kjelgaard 37. Michael Reed 38. Rob Wooten 39. Hiram Burgos 40. Cameron Garfield 41. Nick Ramirez 42. Cody Hawn 43. Shawn Zarraga 44. Dan Merklinger 45. Sean Halton 46. Lee Haydel 47. Donovan Hand 48. Austin Ross 49. Matt Miller 50. Seth Lintz
  16. following this discussion Mark A. has said that the brewers will be in on the fielder race... and the point i was trying to make is that they should instead be in on the reyes race (it would give the brewers the coveted 2 mvps). but people have to realize that with the raises in place that there is no "fielder money" so to free up cash the brewers should trade randy wolf. I love wolf and he seemed to be the stabilizer of our rotation this year, but his value will never be higher and his salary is going to be 12-15 mil. Put peralta/Fiers in the rotation as a number 5 and i think the brewers will be fine, especially anticipating a better season from grienke.
  17. and let me just point out again that one of the most over looked part of what would really help this team in making those changes is baserunning. I know that the defense would be a HUGE upgrade and make out pitching better. and the hitting might go down a bit. but just think of how much more productive the brewers would be on the base paths. no more losing by 1 or 2 runs because prince, casey, and yuni cant score from first on a double. Less caught stealings, more runners in scoring position for braun (if we had reyes). Less double plays. Just what those guys would do for the brewers on the base paths might be enough for 2 or 3 wins.
  18. Let me also say that i realize that chance of getting either guy is EXTREMELY slim, but i know i post as if the brewers have their choice.Im simply saying what i believe that should do to win and reyes would be a winning move for the franchise.
  19. When i think about "why pay that kind of money when you could just give it to prince." I come back to two arguments with myself. 1. I over value prince because he is a brewer and i love him as a player, with that in mind i think reyes has a bigger impact on this team at a position that generally does not produce an offensive talent. 2. The drop-off between prince and the alternative is, in my opinion, much smaller than the drop-off between reyes and the alternative. Take this example: Take 20pts and 3 homers away from Gamels AAA season and you have what i think the optimist thinks he can do with regular time in the bigs and what would be considered a really good season from him. that would be a .290/25/100 season. Now with much better defense (I saw him play this year) and a FAR better base runner (nobody seems to consider this) its very comparable to prince at .299/38/120 and very cheap. now look at reyes compared to betancourt. reyes last season had this in only 126 games. .337/7/44 plus 16 triples 31 doubles 39 steals and more walks than strike outs and he plays great defense. betancourt had one of his best ever seasons, and i think i dont need to really give his numbers, we all know how bad he is. .252/13/68 but only a .271 obp!!! terrible defense, 4 stolen bases and 4 caught stealing, he struck out 4 times as often as he walked, and in 25 more games had 4 less doubles. so looking at that, thats why i think the brewers should go reyes way, mainly because the gap between him and the alternative is much bigger than between prince and the alternative.
  20. This is all i have thought about for the past week plus. I think the brewers need to make a serious push for Reyes and let Fielder walk. That switch alone would make this team a playoff contender again. With Reyes at short our line-up would be more balanced and our pitcher would look every better. I have also thought about how we would not be able to afford him... so i propose trading randy wolf this off-season. his value will never be higher coming off this season and his salary is 12mil. and the brewers have some arms that need to get a shot. the top of the rotation being grienke, gallardo, marcum should be strong enough. Then if you insert peralta and he performs well the crew is in really good shape and they have a chance to add an impact prospect for wolf, not a superstar, but an impact guy. And then the rest of the team is set. 1b. is a hart gamel platoon Rf. is a hart gindl platoon 3b is a green mcgehee platoon. I am not sure how comfortable people would be with this but i think that Hart full time at first would be a GREAT idea. Hart would/should be a huge defensive upgrade to fielder. We've all seen how successful tall athletic guys are at first. his power would be adequate for the position as well. An infield of Green, Reyes, Weeks, Hart would/should be above average hitting and probably defensively as well. that would do a lot for this team. then all we need is a RF, which come cheaper than 1b's. Gindl, Gamel, Gomez, Morgan, Schafer all come to mind.
  21. He definitely didn't miss an A as he spelled it out Double A... I would also go as far as to say i am very disappointed in sickles this year because I think a .307/15/.390/.472 line is quite a bit better than "holding ones own" and "a little bit of pop" for a guy in a league full of much older players.
  22. good point, what are protected again, top 10? I know if the team signs a higher rated type A that players former team gets the first rounder. either way they will be early picks.
  23. Okay, good to know. I was really worried there, it just seems like the Brewers could have sat on the option and monitored his games closed rather than lose the ability to offer a Boras client arby.
  24. Is that true!! I had no idea, if so that's a bad deal for the Brewers and a big mistake by Melvin! He wasn't going to finish the requisite amount of games regardless, the buyout seemed like it was just them buying insurance for the event Ax got hurt... That's NOT close to worth 2 first round picks.
  25. I put this in another post on the minor league side, but i feel like its pretty appropriate here. I met Gamel, Green, Gindl, and Schafer this year and Matt Gamels attitude and demeanor did not impress me, in fact it was disappointing, which i disclaimer-ed by saying that that doesn't mean he wont be a good baseball player. Something i left out of that post was that Gamel seemed to really care about what was happening in the stands, he pointed and waved to a girl at one point when he was in the on-deck circle (could have been family i guess, but didnt seem like it) when he should have been paying attention to the delivery and such. He was also verbally arguing with the guys next to me who were big hecklers, my girlfriend was also arguing with them, but Gamel should have the resolve to ignore them. Both Schafer and Green really seemed to have winning personalities and attitudes where Gindl lack a little and Gamel lacked a lot. I understand why they got the call and the other two didnt.
