  1. I would rather face the cubs, and I’m not keen on being in a position to eat those words, but I think it’s a better match up. Obviously the results again both during the season show we should prefer the cubs. I think the brewers probably have a psychological edge on the cubs at this point as well. BUTTTT, I feel like this team does a great job of scoring runs late. Coming back and winning. Their run prevention keeps them in games. The Padres lock down the last 3 innings unlike any other team, so I don’t think it’s a good matchup for the crew
  2. I love it, he’s a stud. I go back to an interview at the beginning of this season with Andrew Vaughn. They asked him, what about going to the brewers helped you turn it around? his answer probably answers the above 👆👆 on Fischer’s approach. Vaughn said, “they didn’t tell me to do something or not do something specific, like with the white sox it was ‘move you hands here, think this, turn your foot this way’ and all the brewers did was put up my college highlight tape and they said, ‘this is what made you the 3rd overall pick, not sure why you changed so much, why don’t you try going back to doing it this way.” Then he said he asked a question about don’t you want this or that? And he said they answer with, “didnt you hit over .300 this season?” I was like, are the brewers possibly that simplistic in their approach?? But that’s what Vaughn said. i think it speaks to them drafting a trait they want and trying to let the player max it and then see if they can help improve the other things on a micro level. Not sure but that was interesting from Vaughn, wish I had the video still but it was an mlb tv interview are the beginning of the season. It explains origination philosophy being played out with fischer
  3. Keaton was an MLB star until his mom got sick. sometimes we really underestimate how difficult of a mental game it is, especially in the minors. my friend was off to an incredible start in AAA reduced his K rate significantly, maintained his power, was on a hot streak, 2nd and short at the bigs weren’t doing well, then “the other guy” got the call. not hes under .230ba and the k rate went way up, and he will be out of the org next season (really hoping for rule 5, were last year as well). “The other guy” has a ton of power btw… he just hasn’t stopped trying to show more power regardless of we any of us say. Ironically he will finish was 21 homers again just like last season. anyway, just an example of how the mental things are more powerful than the skill things. Can’t just say “k rate”
  4. It’s clear that kyle Harrison isn’t right since the forearm strain. Why aren’t they putting him on the IL now so they can give him 2 weeks rest and then still get him 2 starts to tune up before seasons end? Coleman crow would make sense to call up, he keeps you competitive in his starts and you still get a 6 man rotation. If you are the brewers, you have the division by 9 games right now, I think you need to start looking ahead.
  5. Surprised to hear this sentiment, not just here but all over. Quintana has been great and I’m not sure why people are eager to bump him for Cortez. That said I believe the brewers should be listening on both. Patrick is ready and wells more than capable, gasser is almost back, Logan Henderson was tremendous and Myers is back, not to mention hall and Ashby, this team has no shortage of arms, and not just capable arms, but proving to be above average
  6. A big assumption, but not outlandish… they should sign all of the college picks. That said the high schoolers they have already signed make this class already seem like a good one. Obviously gotta get cairone signed. Then hopefully a few more in the 11-20 range, I think the brewers cooked in this one!
  7. This keeps the team at budget. Tyler black is traded to STL along with Rhys Hoskins and Carlos Rodriguez and a ptbnl swap for Nolan arenado, the cost is steep but we needed the Hoskins salary swap and the cardinals decided Hoskins fits well for a year with Goldschmidt leaving via FA. Devin williams in traded for prospects that better fit the current team make-up and helps back fill for black and Rodriguez being traded. Teams like the brewers need this type of churn when top prospects knock on the door but don’t fit. Goldschmidt is signed as a FA on a 2 year deal similar to the one Hoskins signed last year. He’s a much better fit as he puts the ball in play more and is a vastly better defender, so the pitching staff upgrades by default. with arenado and Goldschmidt at the corners and Ortiz sliding to short and yelich the semi permanent DH the Brewers now field the best defense by good margin in baseball. the pitching staff is going to rely on a few gambles but should be as good or better than last season. The pen proved last season to be very capable without willing and I think that Togo and mis/hall will be a nice boon and provide length. the starting rotation will be lead by woodruff who comes back successfully from his injury, Meyer’s builds on last season and becomes the aces, Freddy has a typical under-appreciated really good season, civale is a great 4, and Ashby continues what he showed at the end of the season. Overall this rotation performs top 5 in the NL. I think the infield is overall upgraded with the approach because the two ads provide just as much pop and Willy and Hoskins and better over all defense. the outfield is overall better with all 3 taking a developmental step forward especially churio, plus a full season of Mitchell, with yelich/perkins providing a wonderful long productive and defensively solid 5. DH with Yelich as the every day is LIGHT YEARS ahead of last season… The most common lineup is: 1. Churio 2. Contreras 3. Yelich 4: arenado 5. goldschmidt 6. Mitchell 7. Ortiz 8. Frelick 9. Turang
  8. C: William Contreras ($7.60M) 1B: Paul Goldschmidt ($15M) 2B: Joey Ortiz ($0.80M) 3B: Nolan arenado ($32M) SS: Brice Turang ($0.80M) LF: Jackson Chourio ($4.25M) CF: Garrett Mitchell ($0.80M) RF: Sal Frelick ($0.80M) DH: Christian Yelich ($24.25M) 4th OF: Blake Perkins ($0.80M) Utility: Andrew Monasterio ($0.80M) Utility: Camp surprise ($.8M) Backup C: Eric Haase ($1.80M) NA: Add Dead Money Here ($0.00M) SP1: Freddy Peralta ($8.25M) SP2: Aaron Civale ($8.00M) SP3: Tobias Myers ($0.80M) SP4: Brandon Woodruff ($5.00M) SP5: Robert Gasser ($0.80M) RP: Craig yoho ($.8M) RP: Trevor Megill ($2.00M) RP: Nick Mears ($0.90M) RP: Jared Koenig ($0.80M) RP: Jacob misiorowski ($.8M) RP: Joel Payamps ($2.80M) RP: J.B. Bukauskas ($0.80M) RP: Aaron Ashby ($3.45M) NA: Add Dead Money Here ($0.00M) Payroll is 3.31% under budget
  9. Nick Kahle! Now predicting a monster year
  10. I am excited for the post season, and I think we will see the brewers offense via the king ball come back a little. the main reason is simply that everyone’s “stats” go back to zero in the post season, it’s a fresh start. I don’t see that negatively affecting the hotter hitters, but I do see it significantly helping the guys “chasing numbers” and pressing like willy, rowdy, and to an extent Donaldson (we know the power is there). It’s hard to dig out of those types of holes and the zeros should really help 1/3rd of this lineup. It should also be good for guys like turang and Taylor. Frelick, Contreras, yelich, canva, and Santana have been fine and with some more power from the 3 power bags getting a reset I think the rest produces more power with less pressure as well. Excited about this run!
  11. I think they just want the power off the bench if they can figure it out for the last 30 games. Plus some minor injury insurance.
  12. This is a great thread, I agree with everyone!! If Hader is the closer again (knebel?) having Suter in the pen seems necessary. I wonder where Corbin Burnes is. His flame out was mental, the stuff is incredible, would be nice to have the good version of him in the rotation next year.
  13. Even through his minors career I would have called myself a hater but I definitely wasn’t a believer, but the guy just keeps producing at every level. I think he’s best in the pen, but I also think everyone’s stuff plays up when you mix in a Suter
  14. With Pomeranz signing with the Padres I think the pen could use his left-handed-ness. The pen certainly had an uptick when he joined. I was definitely leaning more toward hoping they would try to get him ready to be put back in the rotation so there would be a lefty, but with lauer coming back fro Davies I feel like there less pressure to put him there. I know some people don’t think it’s important but I’ve always thought there was good value to having a mixed rotation. I remember how much more effective doug Davis always seemed to be facing a lineup that just saw sheets. What do you all think?
  15. I question perfection. Now you have 2 division winners playing a 1 game playoff to try to get into the DS. I am not a fan of a one game series, but atleast its between the 2 wild card teams only. There would be no 1 game series anymore. 2 division winners with the best records would get 1st round byes. The the “wild card round” would be a best of 5 with only 1 off day. So a team would not have to sit for more than 6 days. Then you divisional round would be 5 and then CS would be 7. You could do a best of 3 for the wildcard round as well.
  16. Then your playoffs would be just like NFL. And it would be perfect!
  17. Ugh... Charlotte vegas and Oklahoma City are all trying to get mlb. I know San Antonio was but I believe they are no longer. Nashville and Louisville would make a lot of sense. SLC at one point had a campaign but I believe it went the way of San Antonio. I know Birmingham has gone through a strong revitalization and desires a team, though I don’t know if they have an official campaign. I would love to see expansion and realignment, which could fix this terrible playoff structure. NL north: twins, brewers, cubs, cards NL Central/south: Rockies, royals, OKC, rangers NL West: Padres, Dodgers, giants, diamond backs NL East: pirates, Phillies, nationals, Mets AL East: Yankees, sox, oriels, Indians AL South: Miami, Tampa, ATL, Astro’s/Charlotte AL North: Jays, W Sox, Reds, tigers AL West: As, Ms, Angels, Astros/vegas
  18. So we could have had Stroman for Zach brown and aye aye Ron Ashby... I wish stearns could have gotten that done :-/
  19. So far tonight in 2 ABs he has a walk and a 2 run homer (11) bring his avg to .260
  20. I was at the game Thursday in OKC. Stokes and Ray got in a very visible argument in the outfield on two occasions and I remember thinking, it’s nothing they have played together for a long time now. Not saying that’s anything to do with this, but maybe?
  21. Do you think stearns offseason behavior is representative of the brewers current competitive window? Or Do we think stearns is taking an asset approach and views this upcoming June draft to be weak and therefore has been more willing to part with those assets for big league assets that help the team on the field and the competitiveness but in the event that the team underperforms could be used to attain other assets via trade? I ask because with his approach it just seems odd that he would be trading draft picks and surrendering them even with us being so competitive. Maybe it’s a combination of both... thoughts?
  22. Domingo and Jesus are both 30 homer big leaguers on extremely cheap contracts, Schoop got mvp votes 2 years ago. Peralta is an “untouchable prospect” Corey has helium as a prospect and was the 5th overall pick, doubon is a highly regarded prospect that plays short and is major league ready.
  23. Maybe Schoop, Santana, Jesus, Thames, peralta, Doubon, Corey Ray, and throw in the money to cover Schoop
