  1. Look at how happy Ben Sheets is here: http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/sports/brew/img/jul07/run31.jpg That is one guy who's fired up and itching to get onto the mound!
  2. Premature? Vargas' career body of work speaks for itself. Last year, even if we're generous and round Vargas to 30 starts (rather than 31 appearances/30 starts) and keep his IP the same, he's still averaging under 5.2 IP. Deepest he went was 7 IP. 2005, with AZ (after being traded from WAS, where he was averaging a Hendrickson-esque 3 IP/start), Vargas averaged between 5.2 and 6 IP. Deepest he went was 7.1 IP. Point is, Vargas is what he is: a 5-6 IP/start guy. And with the way the bullpen had to be used last night, today could be... interesting.
  3. Which was the longest of the season, and also the first time he did go past 6IP in 2007. As I said before, I'm hoping for 7 out of him, but realistically... 5+ or 6 is all they probably will get. Ugh.
  4. Ugh. Seems like Claudio "I can't get past 6 IP" Vargas is going to start since Bush pitched last night. Hopefully he'll be able to go 7 tonight and help save some of the pen...
  5. I've been awesome tonight. Ate dinner, went for a run by the lake, went to Alterra on the Lake for a smoothie, talked for a bit with my college boys (we now live at least 500 miles apart), and just got psyched about the new She Wants Revenge album coming out in October. Isn't it nice having two off-days in a row?
  6. http://www.luminomagazine.com/2004.10/spotlight/nerds/images/ogre/ogre2.jpg Nerds!
  7. Had CV the elder been traded over the All Star Break and CV the Younger been put into his spot, with Yo and Parra in the pen... I could see how we would have been able to not miss Claudio. However, with that said, Vargas will probably remain with the Brewers through the remainder of the year as Yo likely will go back to the pen for a little while to keep his innings down once Sheets comes back. And hopefully they'll put him in the rotation for Vargas going down the stretch.
  8. No offense, but people said Wayne Franklin was also a "winner" because he won more games one year than Sheets. Vargas is what he is. A serviceable starter capable of keeping the bottom of the rotation together until Yo/Villy can be inserted full-time (next season). Which also makes CV the older expendable after this year... and depending on what the remaining SP options are for this year, he could be expendable, well, now.
  9. That's also what happens with ESPN and their East Coast/Boston bias. If this does happen, I'm a little disappointed. The pen is run down (thanks, Vargas/Suppan/Capuano for not being able to get out of the 5th!) and could have used the help.
  10. If the CV in question here was Claudio Vargas, I'd be on that trade like a kid in a candy store Toby's trade suggestion seems plausible, but with no real "standout" player/prospect in that group, one would wonder if the Rangers would be getting enough to do it... And Toby... work? I thought Hipsters don't workhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. I'm down with no Brewers IGT-ing tomorrow. Yes, I know - we're superstitious, but aren't most baseball fans?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. The mere fact that they had to get those guys up puts wear and tear on them. Glad to see the Cubs go through so many pitchers.
  13. Have you seen Everclear live then? They're just... putrid. I've never been so disappointed in a show before.
  14. Most of the numbers that people like myself have been throwing out on this discussion are regarding his peripherals, such as BAA, K/9, and WHIP. Those are the numbers that we've been citing when we state that he's been having an "off" year and how he's been "regressing" towards league norms over the past 2+ seasons. While his ERA has been blown up because of those two outings, the same argument could be made about most relievers - they all have a couple of "bad" outings that bump up their ERA a little. That's why peripheral numbers can be indicative of a reliever's success.
  15. It seems like Rickie's been seeing the ball consistently better of late. I don't think this is really an option anymore. But that said, do we know if Linebrink's arrived in St. Louis yet? Did his wife have a boy or girl? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Yes he could, not because of the IP, but because of the number of times he'd have to come in and pitch. Remember, at the end of last season, the Red Sox wanted to move Papellbon back into the rotation because it would be "less stressful" on his arm, especially since he was run down/hurting down the stretch in '06. Smoltz moved back into the rotation in ATL not just because they needed him there but also because it would be less stress on his arm. Which, again, brings up my concerns with having Yo (in theory) as anything but a mop-up/long guy in the pen... but that's a different topic for discussion on a different day.
  17. LinkedIn is great stuff. Nothing screams "awesomeness" like the size of your professional networkhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Hmm... An interesting predicament. How about you give me her phone number and I'll find out if she's good enough for you?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif In all seriousness, facebook / MySpace are the best routes here, especially if the phone # doesn't work. But again... Stalking = bad
  19. I can agree with: Weird Al (surprisingly, he's very engaging) John Mellencamp (seen him 4 times live - an incredible stage presence) And allow me to add: Rod Stewart (even though South Park had him rolling out in a wheelchair, he really puts on a great show) Paul McCartney (yes, expensive. But you do get your money's worth). Sting (Also expensive, but also very worth it) Nine Inch Nails (Unbelievable. That's the only word to describe it) Alicia Keys (Surprisingly extremely charismatic on-stage) The Eagles (now that they're not as uptight, they're probably one of the top acts out there) I'm sure I'll think of more, but for now those pop into my head.
  20. Hey now! I had the exact same response to you up first! Where's the love, Geno, where's the love? Oh wait... it's me we're talking about here...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Yes, which is also why some of us have said that the remaining 60 games will be a true test as to whether or not he was worth it. Inman already showed that he was able to bounce back. Hopefully Linebrink will as well. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
  21. Hey, BSCR, I see brilliant minds think alike!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif As far as the backlash if nothing was acquired goes, with people saying "but the Cubs got Kendall," I say that the Cubs made a move to pretty much make a move. The Kendall addition is even less significant than the Linebrink one, IMO. As BSCR also said, Linebrink has 60 games to show whether or not his acquisition was a good move (without bringing the prospects' future performance into further discussion). If he does well, I bid him farewell and good luck in either Yankees pinstripes or at Fenway. If he does not, I suspect there'll be a lot of people here saying "Why, Doug, Why?"
  22. Let's look at Inman's last, oh, 5 starts in AA: 6/30: 6IP 1ER 4BB 6K 7/05: 5.2IP 3ER 0BB 7K 7/11: 4IP 0ER 5BB 5K 7/17: 6IP 2ER 1BB 7K 7/23: 7.1IP 2ER 2BB 5K Now, it seems to me like Inman, now that he's not suffering from mono, was doing just fine in AA. So basically, to sum up Inman's AA body of work, it was 2 horrific starts (2.2IP, 6ER in his debut and 2IP, 7ER in his third start) that caused all of this misconception. The kid righted the ship just fine, if you ask me. Anyways, good luck to Mr. Inman in the San Diego system. May he do well in the bigs... except, of course, against Milwaukee.
  23. Well I'm going to be pointing everyone to this during game chats until we catch SOSH. I am NOT letting those elitist BoSox fans beat us! EDIT: That said, are the admins of this site above shameless self-promotion on these boards, especially given that people might not have known to vote?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
