Ok. I'll give on that. Maybe, maybe not. But it is a reasonable starting point. Both teams trading from strengths/depth to fill holes. Same could be said about Yo by other teams' fanshttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Which I do agree with - and have agreed with in other spots - but it seems like the general consensus among all the people in the "know" (i.e. Jim Powell, Haudricourt, etc) that Yo will be up this year at some point. Which makes someone expendable. And if we're going to get something in return for our investment, Vargas is most likely to bring the most back at the present moment. Of course, this is subject to change as the season progresses. I disagree. Some team - as the season progresses - is going to need another OF, and our asking price is MR help. And I think DM would get that. Yes - all those are valid MR options. I don't recall whether it was here or in the chat yesterday that I brought up Sarfate and Capellan as reasonable "plugs" to any MR hole. That's a pretty bold claim, Pogo. Here's what actually happened: I was going through the rumors that are linked to SI.com yesterday and I saw "Milledge trade bait for SP help." And I thought to myself "hmm... we could fill LF for years with him. The Mets need a SP. We have a SP that's really not in our long-term plans. Why not?" So I threw this idea out. But what he HAS done in AAA is continue the pattern of dominance he's had throughout his minor league career. Which at least gives us an idea as to what he brings to the table. Not true. We still have: Yo Villanueva Jackson In case starters get hurt. Seriously, though, if we have 4 starting pitchers go down, we might as well just call ourselves the April '07 Yankees and hope to heck our O carries us until we get some of our SPs back. In all, this idea was floated as a way to solve three needs: 1. Long-term solution for LF 2. Open up a spot in the rotation for Yo without weakening the team 3. Free up money through subsequent moves to keep the core of the team. The issues that you guys have brought up are: 1. Vargas alone might not get Milledge 2. Milledge may be overrated 3. Yo might not perform "up to expectations" 4. The subsequent trades might not land what I'm hoping they'd land 5. Vargas is pitching well right now. Why trade him? 6. We'll then be down to 2 "backup" Starting Pitchers (Villy and Jackson) in case something happens to our rotation
