  1. Sounds like Hart will be I there Monday. He can be replaced late in games defensively anyways so playing the full 9 shouldn't be an issue.
  2. The lineup starts to look a little deeper with Hart at 5, Gamel at 6, and Gonzo-Lucroy 7-8 combo with the way they have swung the bat this spring. This also removes some pressure from Gamel hitting 5th for the first week as well.
  3. If we were overwhelmed by any offer for green I would be listening. Otherwise he is great depth at AAA and has two options.
  4. We need to get to that first series. Is it Friday yet?
  5. In addition in a playoff series versus Philly with Hamels and lee pitching I would want lucroy out there even if wolf is pitching. They need to get past this early in the season and start the catcher that gives the team the best match up or schedule break at that time.
  6. No response to Allen Craig being a starter on every MLB team?
  7. Also brought up was that it should be Yo's 4th straight. Macha went with old soup one year because he had experience and gallardo might be immature.
  8. My take, I am not sure what they can't get over, but the team would be better if they did. Lucroy needs more days off, and more strategically to avoid wearing him down. Kottaras should play versus tough RH pitchers, and on days luc needs a rest not when wolf pitches. I think competitively the team would be better if they eliminated the kottaras wolf combo and just used kottaras when it made the most sense schedule or match up wise.
  9. Since this was stated in the lucroy signing thread I figured it would be good discussion. I am sure it has been discussed in the past, but it seems relevant again.
  10. This is exactly what excited me with the Grienke talk as well. Who better to be preaching Milwaukee and contract than Braun. He is signed for 10'years and if he is one of zach's closest confidants on the team like he was for luc I would think it could end in the same result. Keep working brauny!
  11. This is similar, but also get a little annoyed when spring announcers can not pronounce our top prospects names. One culprit of this is bill Schroeder. He often times sounds uncomfortable with the names unless BA just mentioned them. Overall I hunk ours are pretty good. Watch a game on mlbnet and it's funny how a teams own announcers may know 1-2 prospects but the rest they don't have a clue. I guess if I got paid to talk about baseball I would think I would want to sound educated when I spoke. In fact I don't get paid to talk about baseball and I put in way too much time ensuring I know what is going on...
  12. Just to further vent.... I also think the loss of manager, Duncan, and Albert will also have an impact on the team. Why those losses are not larger than us losing prince is another thing I am struggling to find an answer too. Especially Duncan. Every year we got to hear how he fixed the careers of lohse, Pinero, now Garcia etc. without him will these average pitchers be simply average again.?
  13. I can live with hype for the reds. They are exciting and have talented young players, and added a new ace and bullpen. I can't stand that every analyst overlooks a team built around a core of berk, furcal, Holliday, Beltran, carpenter, and wainwright and does not even mention the idea that injuries are not only a possible issue (case with every team and sport) but a highly likely one with this list. Not to mention you have the unexpected and no history to back the rise to stardom of freese and to some extent motte as closer. I think they have way more questions than answers on that team and yet all the experts can talk about is the names on the back of their jerseys. With some luck, and with health biting STL I would not be shocked to see them finish behind Pitt.
  14. Agreed and the cost certainty of luc plus Maldonado at the minimum for the next 3+ years is great for looking at the rest of our team. Our catcher position should be locked up starter and backup for the next 5 years at an affordable rate and likely above league average skill set. Lucroy's progression and Maldonado as the second catcher will improve defense at the position, and an eventual loss of kottaras will not be an issue considering he is not used offensively as the left handed side of a catching platoon anyways. I like George's bat, but his defense will make me happy to see MM as the back up in 2013 and the future.
  15. My two thoughts directly contradict each other and I am aware of that. This discussion has in fact had me going back and forth constantly and I have no idea where negotiations are if they even exist. I do know that I am hopeful, and like the fact that he and Braun (signed for 10 years) have been discussing contract. If Zach likes Braun that is a huge bonus because he has said publicly he does not like many people... Haha I would also think Braun sees how much better we are with him and could be our biggest ally in getting Zach with that pen n his hand.
  16. I think Grienke actually enjoys the negotiating experience. I think he is in no hurry because once he signs he will have to hold another press conference(he loves) and he likes the thought that goes into the process. That being said if we offer or have offered Felix type money, I too am wondering why we have not heard either a Grienke wants to pitch all season and then see or he has signed. Grienke is also the kind of person that knows signing will mean less attention in the long run something else he has been vocal about in the past.
  17. In all honesty why would they even try to sign Marcum when it would effectively eliminate their chance at Zach. I hope in the next week we hear about a big push for Zach and hopefully marcum has a huge year pitching for his next contact in an American league city.
  18. I hope the crew is the 8th best team in baseball this year and squeaks out a ship... Lol
  19. Maybe we can keep Dillard on the 25 til Marcum is ready and then designate him allowing him slip through to Nashville. I think McClendon makes the staff better and should get the job.
  20. Guy is red hot, and his approach at the plate will fit excellent as a pinch hitter. He runs well, and by all accounts is a good defender. Well suited for a 4th OF, especially NL.
  21. I believe he said no in season talks. Not that he has no interest.
  22. In reality imam not sure how the national media has overlooked this all offseason. Consistently picking the crew to finish third. New manager, new pitching coach, loss of best hitter in the game. 36 year old ace, a second ace one year removed from TJ. Sketchy depth in the rest of their rotation (I think Lynn could be pretty good). A lineup with 3 regulars aging and huge injury risk. (furcal, Berkman, Beltran) Their best hitter missed much of last season with a variety of injuries. (Holliday) There young replacement in RF for when Beltran inevitably gets hurt is injured. (Craig) This has bothered me all offseason when the "experts" on Espn and MLB have pointed out our chances sans Prince, and then in the next sentence talked about how STL or CIN would win this division. It's not a video game, and adding a bunch of old past prime players is a recipe for an expensive disaster. Domino #1 just fell with Carp. Not if, but when is the next one?
  23. Some talk that Iglesias may win the starting job in Boston making Aviles tradable. Would think he would fit extremely well in that back up middle infielder role who could start if needed. Wonder what he would cost?
  24. I think Lucroy meant negative towards major league baseball. I read Wolfey's entire article and luc was also quoted as saying they are with Braun because they know the whole story. That would contradict himself if the story really proved to them he was innocent and would make things more negative him if they leaked? I think? Ha. This has been a strange story to follow, I need April 6th in a bad way.
  25. You're maybe right. I remember him in Houston and he was a Mark Loretta type player, and played some short also. Might be in his past though.
