  1. Thing is I dont think he has any value as a reliever. He does not have parra's stuff and has struggled out of the pen. I am starting to think he may be done which is is a shame and really makes signing Grienke even more vital to 2013.
  2. Making the Gamel - ish discussion moot point in my opinion is the fact that Conrad is tearing the cover off the ball. We have a 2B, 3B, emergency C, veteran who has had success pinch hitting who is RH a call a way. He has a huge hole in his swing, is not a savior by any means, but literally fits the exact description of what we need for a bench bat right now. Ish will likely clear waivers and can play everyday at AAA as depth. All he was ever signed for initially. If weeks needs a day off we need to have a player on our team that can spell him. Conrad was banged up to start the year so not breaking camp was acceptable. Continuing to ignore the fact that our ability to rest players, make late game moves, and ultimately win close games is jeopardized is starting to frustrate me. I would love to see Conrad and a healthy knitzler called up soon. I also wouldn't hate Rivas being called up to fill more of the long man role as he seems to have taken well to the pen move. Similar player to Marco in a lot of ways.
  3. This would bea great game and series for the law of averages to come into play. Westbrook, and lohse are not finishing the season with era's at 1.00. In the same respect gallardo is too good to continue to pitch so poorly versus any team. L
  4. Not inspiring much interest. I would think he still would fill a role that Ish is not.
  5. I know he has struggled, and Ish has homered in back to back starts, but wouldn't Inge be a nice bench bat? Plays 2b, 3b, I believe catcher, and likely could man 1b as well. Has some solid experience and some pop from the right side.
  6. Not relevant today but Gamel can hit 6th everyday too. He is hitting lefties at a better clip than RHP.
  7. I think everyday Conrad makes more sense. Good problem to have though when our only discussion is about the 25th roster spot. Any one know when knitzler is going to throw? I still am awaiting another reliever to take the place of Dillard at some point.
  8. He was throwing strikes though and that always helps. His third pitch will be key for him as teams start to see him more frequently. That said 93 on the fastball was pretty impressive.
  9. More so than Peralta who needs the innings because he will likely be in the 2013 rotation.
  10. RR uses Dillard in situations not remotely close to garbage time. I think Peralta and thornburg should be called up prior to sept so that they could be on the playoff roster if needed. I really like the idea of having thornburg pitch relief the last month in milw and be eligible for the playoff roster a la lance Lynn.
  11. All the more reason I hope he has a great year, and the team sells high on him to an AL team. He is slowly trending to be a difficult play defensively for a national league team not at first base. His offense will be what carries the weight especially with a plus plus defender in Gomez usually next to him, but right now is likely as good as he is going to play defense ever again. (a little improvement with confidence in knee) Keep hitting Corey, keep hitting Caleb, and maybe RF could be a prince to Gamel like transition in 2013. If we can get a decent haul for Hart (SS prospect) and use his salary toward Grienke I am all for it.
  12. Is he really going to steal 15+ bases? I am shocked at how well he is running. A nice added bonus to the first base position.
  13. Hopefully he closes the door on a 4game sweep first. I am willing to bet he will talk with more clarity after a nice outing. Otherwise all the media will just be annoying him.
  14. Yup, that was what the "Odds of a monster deal" thing was about, as in the odds may not be as great as one might think because of that (and because some teams don't want him for that reason). Whatever. While it'd be nice to think that this would lead to Greinke signing for a little less than I expect, I can't imagine how Melvin would use "people don't like you" in his negotiations. Yea not sure how you phrase that. Although Zach appreciates brutal honesty? Maybe say we like you, we hear other people don't. Stay where people like you...
  15. I was pretty happy with how most of the team swung the bat. A ton of loud outs for Braun, Gamel, and others. Maybe the friendly view of wrigley will get Aram locked in. His bat looks a little slow as of now.
  16. Love the confidence. Hope he gets back out there today. That said I am in the group that thinks you go year to year with relievers. Too much variance even with the good ones. I see almost all risk if we go the long term route with only minimal gain. The team has two potential closer type arms in Thornburg and Manzanillo in my opinion at AA-AAA this year. If Ax performs like he has, when his price goes through the roof he may be quite a trade chip too. Look at Bos? What would they pay for a guy like Ax? Ny after Rivera is gone? The list of closers who make it for long stretches is so short. He is with the team for the foreseeable future, let him pitch, and let him earn his money.
  17. I know buster olney wrote something about how Grienke was a bad club house guy in KC. not sure if this is it. I like Zach, I think he is a difficult egg to crack and I think before he is comfortable somewhere he is likely not very social in the clubhouse. That said, not sure how he could be construed as a bad clubhouse presence. He is obsessed with winning, and very competitive. I would think he would be the epitome of lead by example not his words. I have not enjoyed reading Buster in quite some time. All reactionary pieces with little content.
  18. Kottaras first start is versus a RHP and a day game. So far so good on giving luc timely breaks. Expecting another bomb from George today.
  19. I kind of think we should lock him up before he starts again. If he goes 9 shut out vs the scrubs the price might keep rising...
  20. Couldn't have responded better to a great post. Another example of how sports bring a new element to life only a fan can understand.
  21. I like the rest of you thoughts, and I am not trying to just bash your post. I just am tired of the opinion that someone needs immediate success at the major league level or they are over rated or not any good. In addition to say Estrada is a proven 5 starter but you have no faith in our AAA prospects is funny. Yes Estarda had some success last year in that role, but he is also a guy we picked up when a bad Washington team (at the time) had no use for him on their 40. Not exactly promising. Not even to mention Peralta is yet to pitch a single major league inning. Let's hold judgement til he at least makes a start.Maybe after one start we can then say he is just a AAAA pitcher?.... I have a question for you too? Who is st Louis's 3 starter that really shines?
  22. Peralta AAAA? Really? I think you need to go back and look a little closer.n yes he has struggled in his two spring major league stints but he is just removed from a dominant season at AA and AAA, Early 20's, and dominant stuff. Yea that's a guy I think has proven he is 4A.
  23. I would be fine with moving Hart if it means resigning Grienke. I have hope that gindl will continue to grow into a decent RF option.
  24. I hope you positive thinkers are right. I too still feel like Zach will sign at 5 years just under 100m
  25. I was still hoping a middle infielder would be made available this week and Izturis could be replaced. Looking less likely now. Is Izturis contract guaranteed for the season now?
