  1. I think it's time to begin the Ben Grieve countdown. This is ********, to say the least. I'll be more than happy to start it: Ben Grieve Watch PA's last seven games: 11 PA's this month (17 games): 38
  2. Lineups Colorado 1. Miles 2B 2. Clayton SS 3. Helton 1B 4. Wilson CF 5. Walker RF 6. Castilla 3B 7. Burnitz LF 8. Johnson C 9. Jennings P When did you ever think you would see a lineup with Royce Clayton hitting second and Jeromy Burnitz and Charles Johnson hitting 7-8? Brewers 1. Podsednik CF 2. Spivey 2B 3. Jenkins LF 4. Overbay 1B 5. Clark RF 6. Ginter 3B 7. Moeller C 8. Counsell SS 9. Davis P Wonder what the excuse for not playing Ben Grieve is tonight? EDIT: Perhaps Ned got scared at the 1.029 OPS figure, which is what lefties are hitting Jason Jennings at so far this season. Amazing. Simply amazing. Brady fricken Clark. Hitting fifth.
  3. I've said it before... they have to put the opponents AWAY for that third game of the series. If they're going to be in the post-season... this is something that the club has to learn today. Game six of the NLCS against the Scrubs is not the time to learn that. What the hell are you talking about, clancy? Baseball isn't a boxing match. You don't have teams "on the ropes" by beating them two straight days. Each day is a brand new day, because you are facing a different pitcher. It's not like other sports where the same lineup is out there every night. The Brewers don't get bonus points for sweeping a series, which makes your statement completely silly. While they haven't swept any of the past four series, they have won 8 of 12 games. If the Brewers win at that clip for the rest of the year, they will have 99 wins. Will you please tell me what is wrong with that? I've said it a million times...its very hard in baseball to sweep a series...especially when three out of the last four series have come against playoff-caliber clubs.
  4. The Crew faces the type of pitcher today in Johan Santana that has given them fits in the past...a lefty with a mid-90's fastball and a devastating change up. Santana is 5th in the AL in strikeouts, and has a WHIP of 0.86 in his last four starts. The Brewers offense will have it's hands full. Here's hoping Victor can outduel another ace today... A win today by the Crew and a loss by Cincinnati, who faces Matt Morris and the Cardinals today, moves Milwaukee into third place in the Central...
  5. but when it's the playoffs, finishing off opponents will matter. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif Podsednik is the only CF on the roster. What do you want Yost to do, dump a pitcher and call up Mitch Bergeron? No, I want Podsednik to get a couple games (if not a series) off so that Wynegar can work with Scott to get him back to hitting line drives and ground balls, not pop-ups with that god-awful upper-cut swing that has re-developed. One of the reasons the Brewers offense is struggling like it is is because Podsednik isn't getting on base like he did last year. A .339 OBP from your leadoff man simply will not cut it. Scott is hardly a CF defensive whiz. Brady can play it for three days. I just find it amusing that certain players are treated differently than others when it comes to slumps and struggling, and weaknesses. Scotty's OBP could fall under .300 and he would still probably find himself at the top of the order each and every day. However, Ginter has one bad game and rides the pine for three days, and Grieve's defense is perceived to be so bad that he needs to leave the game after the 6th inning each day.
  6. Keith Ginter gets a day (or two) off when he has a bad game or is in a bad stretch. Ben Grieve isn't allowed to finish a game, because according to Yost his defense is too bad. But yet Scott Podsednik will be in the starting lineup and will bat every time, every day, even though he is playing like total crap and is completely getting away from the things that made him successful last year. His only hit in this series was a drag bunt that Olerud didn't go for last night. Its double standards and decisions like these that really bother me with Yost. Still, 2 out of 3 against an uncommon opponent is a good thing. Seattle was playing their best ball of the season heading into this series, the Brewers beat their ace, and the starting pitching remains really good.
  7. As you can now see, Mike Adams is human, too. Nedley isn't necessarily making "bad" decisions...like I have said many times, its just really hard to beat the same team three times in a row.
  8. The Brewers took 2 out of 3 games against the team many feel will win the AL West and is a legit contender for the World Series. I think if any of us were told this before the series started, the way our team has been playing, we would have been more than happy to take it. We're 1 game over .500 after a 12 game west coast road trip...most people (including me) thought that this trip would be the start of the "mid-season swoon".
  9. The Brewers and Angels play game three of their series tonight... ..oh, wait...its only game two, even though they have already played for 17 innings against each other. Needless to say, the Brewers need a big effort from Victor Santos tonight.
  10. JUST IN: Ned has decided to change from the three-man right side of the IF look to a more conventional set-up, moving Counsell back to SS. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  11. Tonight's lineups are brought to you by Aluminum Bats for America, a non-profit organization committed to ending prolonged offensive slumps throughout all of baseball... BREWERS (Sheets) 1. Podsednik CF 2. Spivey 2B 3. Jenkins LF 4. Overbay 1B 5. Liefer RF 6. Ginter 3B 7. Grieve DH 8. Moeller C 9. Counsell SS Yes, believe it...Craig Counsell is hitting ninth. ANGELS (Escobar) 1. Figgins 3B 2. DaVanon DH 3. Guerrero RF 4. Guillen LF 5. Mondesi CF 6. Kotchman 1B 7. Molina C 8. Amezaga SS 9. Kennedy 2B
  12. Recap of Rounds 26-30: 26: Dustin Timm, RHP, U of Nebraska 27: Ty Pryor, RHP, Olympia HS (FL) 28: Ronnie Prettyman, 3B, Cal State Fullerton 29: Ryan Patterson, RHP, Lake Cowichan HS (British Columbia) 30. Brian Johnson, RHP, East Islip HS (NY)
  13. Recap - Rounds 21-25: 21: Andrew Bowman, LHP, Dakota Ridge HS (CO) 22: Mathew Kretzchmar, RHP, San Pedro HS (CA) 23: Tony Festa, 3B, UC-Riverside 24: Jose Velez Delgado, RHP , Puerto Rico Baseball Academy 25: Sean Morgan, RHP, Sugarland HS (TX) Five out of seven picks so far today have been HS pitchers.
  14. The Brewers have not been below .500 since May 11. Hopefully that streak continues against the Angels in what is probably the biggest series of the season to date for Milwaukee. Ben Sheets gets back on the hill for the Brewers. He was originally scheduled to face Jarrod Washburn, but Washburn had his start pushed back a day to tomorrow due to troubles with leg cramps, so Kelvim Escobar pitches for Anaheim.
  15. The next six starters the Brewers are scheduled to face: Jarrod Washburn Kelvim Escobar John Lackey Roy Oswalt Brandon Duckworth Roger Clemens Can anybody say "1-5"?
  16. while I don't anticipate they will lose 2 out of every 3 the remainder of the year Don't throw that out too fast. The Brewers schedule is brutal over the next month or so. Im sorry, but this team has become totally unwatchable, if not pathetic. This is the worst offensive team in the big leagues outside of Montreal. "Slumps" are things that last a couple weeks. This offensive futility has now lasted a calendar month. That isn't a slump - its a trend.
  17. I wonder if Nedley's starting Liefer to see how he does in RF in order to help him determine who'll be DHing in Anaheim. I think Yost is just frustrated as hell in Grieve's .388 OBP. It's just astonshing to me the complete lack of respect Grieve is getting, especially by our manager. The man is getting on base 39% of the time, yet just has 128 plate appearances in 53 games. And if Grieve does actually get the opportunity to start, it is a noteworthy accomplishment if he is still in there past the sixth inning. It's a disgrace that Brady Clark, he of the gigantic .306 OBP, has just 19 fewer PA's than Grieve. You're not going to find it easy to break out of slumps when a man who has an OBP over 40 points better than your leadoff hitter sits on the end of the bench. Grieve may not be a good defender, but defense isn't killing this team right now. Offense is.
  18. This is going to be a very different looking team when this road trip is over. Sorry to say it, but unless the offense gets its head out of its ass, I could easily see this being a 2-7 road trip.
  19. Dan Kolb needs to be traded. Soon. With his inability to strike anyone out, I predict this will be the first of many blown saves this year.
  20. Trent Durrington still sucks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  21. Kerry Wood was originally diagnosed with a strain/cramp..... Exactly, and it turned out to be a serious tendonitis injury. Pitchers don't just get "cramps" in their throwing arms without something else being wrong.
  22. A "left triceps cramp"? That's the first time I heard about that. Doesn't pass the smell test with me, especially since Capuano has had TJ surgery. Capuano is starting to take on the form of being a good pitcher when healthy, but he is injured so much that it doesn't do much good to have much faith in him.
  23. Where's the patience we are always talking about? That is like example 1 of why it's important to have some discipline at the plate. That's called poor coaching and in-game management. Im sorry, but if the opposing pitcher just walked three guys in a row, with most of the pitches not even close, the following hitter gets the take sign until the pitcher throws a called strike. I don't care who is batting. That's just simple, in-game management. Quite disappointing, and an example of how Ned at times completely looks out-classed and inept at in-game managing.
  24. So when do we have to really get worried about Scotty's slump? Last 10 games (53 PA): Just 5 walks. OBP has dropped 20 points. SLG% has dropped 50 points. OPS has dropped roughly 70 points. It is time to get worried, in my view. And give him a couple days off, even if it means Brady Clark has to play CF for a couple games.
