  1. Well this is like watching a pee wee league game. Just trying to find a guy who can throw a strike and ball bouncing all over the place on D. It will interest me to see how 'meekly' the guys go down in the last two innings. If they see their skipper hand the game back, they gotta be depressed. Hey, I wonder how long before we see Sheets starting EVERY game, because he is out best.
  2. Well, no wonder it was a hit, on my CBS sportsline game tracker it said Phelps threw an 86 mph fasball for a bullseye right down the can.
  3. hmmmm, this guy might be ok; seems much more fun having the game on the line with Weeks uup
  4. Man, I would hate to let the youngster get out of this with a 'quality' start (7 ip for 3 runs or less). And what is this 6 ks and 1 bb rubbish. And less hits than innings. C'mon guys get a run.
  5. Meanwhile, Delmarva finally solved West Virginia starter Mark Rogers, whose fastball registered at 100 and 101 miles per hour throughout the night, in the bottom of the fifth. I guess I can accept the loss if we have a 19 year old tossing em up there at 101.
  6. It is a good feeling now when Weeks or Fielder have the game on their shoulders. It is like we have a chance. And they do not have the stinky Brewer past on their shoulders. This team almost feels decent. By they way, our runs for and against are now about the 5th best in the league. Tied with Florida (or a run behind) and only worse than the three division leaders and the wildcard leader Atlanta. We have enough skills (I have consistently said) this year. I dont want to hear anymore of this 'we expect to be bad' stuff. We have the skills to be in the top 1/3 of the NAT teams. And we have the runs for and against to prove it.
  7. According to my game center on sportsline Geoff has 11 pitches of which TWO were in the zone. So nine balls to draw a walk. Ha ha, the new Vlad.
  8. I wonder if we have the Ohka of the last three years - nibbler with lots of walks and only some k's and unexplainably low ERA. The previous couple of starts he was throwing LOTS of strikes and lots of home runs.
  9. I would love to see Nelson (the Brad one, not the Cruz one) absolutely destroy the AA pitchers. Considering he is 22 and Nelson of the Cruz type is 25, if Nelson of the Brad type can get anywhere near that, then we should be more happy about Brad than Nelson. Who's on first? Huntsvillefan, you need to refesh us on Brad's D. Could Brad be the Carlos Lee replacement in three years? Isn't it great to be able to NOT RUSH these prospect finally. Poor Billy Hall, but Billy survived. But now we can stop pushing a little bit. To be honest, I like our MLB roster (well most of it), I like our minors, I think we have a future.
  10. He IS IS IS an .850 to .950 OPS hitter Is that sarcasm? I do believe in fairies, I do believe in fairies. Actually, I steadfastly refuse to believe that Jenks is NOT a .850 plus hitter. The couple of .900ish years he had when like 24/25 do NOT NOT NOT reek of fluke. If he was not zonked up on steriods then, he can return to that level. He must. We need him. (did you see my early prediction... and I dont make many... Jenks to return to form from TODAY) I think the problem with the Cubs was they actually threw Jenks around the plate. Jenks can be good if he can actually see and not swing at the ankle or chin ball.
  11. The sleeping giant has been awoken. Man, I wish there was a run bank. We could deposit a few to withdraw later. My only hope now is that Jenks goes 4 for 4. He needs to get out of that funk. He IS IS IS an .850 to .950 OPS hitter. You just stare at his stats over the years, and he MUST MUST MUST hit. You cannot just unlearn how to hit. Can you?
  12. This is odd, between Clark, Overbay and Lee, the cornerstones, we have one hit. And yet, we are scoring oddles. Maybe our team is taking a baby step toward normalism. They have a long way to come, but it is nice the young and new guys are leading the way.
  13. Again, we are seeing a mental shortcoming in this team. We are, I think 0 for 6 with RISP since the intial onslaught. We could/should have a 3 run lead easy... we give one back on an error and we refuse to cash in just ONE for the last six chances. This team is amazingly weak mentally. Just look at how we are still scoring more runs overall then the other teams. And yet we hover so, so far down in the standing. Win or lose this game, the guys are showing the same weak-kneed, baby performance.
  14. I will predict that from today for a long time, we will see the real Jenkins. He is tired of hurting this team. He will revert to the 350 obp 500 slug guy we expect.
  15. If I were Ned, I would give up on any semblence of managing - I mean just let the guys play. No bunts, no steal, no hit and runs... just play the most boring straight way. If the media ask... why did you not bunt... you say 'the guys dont know how to bunt' why did you not hit and run there... the guys will miss the signs why did you not make a pitching change to get a good matchup.... does not matter, our relievers will just walk the lead off guy Ned needs to manage in a style where all the heat goes onto the players. They are such prima donas on this team and all their crap play is not hightlighted enough. The collect millions of dollars of salary, they should be accountable. They are NOT accountable to be Barry Bonds, but the are accountable to perform to their (albeit low) standards.
  16. Not a boring day matchup wise (win/loss records). BC can get into a tie for first and Helena can fist it out with the other early big boy.
  17. Can we admit, if not for just one day, that the main reason our team sucks is because the players aren't doing their jobs? Oh goodie, saves me typing. We have a bunch of hitters who cannot bunt and pitchers who walk leadoff batters. Enough said?
  18. Should I ring up some of the late closers, early openers here in Sydney. You guys could pop down for a beer and yarn.
  19. he was given absolutely no assistance, by one of the most apathetically awful displays of defense. the sheer ineptitude of which simply doesn't show on the error count H-fan you are needing some reprogramming, my friend. Get with the program. Defense is overrated and does not have much of an impact on the results of the game of baseball.
  20. If Durrington can really, really play a passable shortstop then Hardy should go down if only for a couple of weeks. The team would be nicely balanced then.
  21. Can we guess? If Nelson Cruz is at AAA... Nelson is going back to AA. Hart is going up to MLB. Prince is staying at MLB (Nelson the new first baseman) Knox is going back to AA - or being released. We really only need 5 guys for the outfield/dh/1st base. Nelson, Krynzel, Hart, Cruz, Fielder, Knox = six ---------------- Also, when oh when is Villanueva going up. It is not possible to have a negative era, so what are they waiting for. --------------- And I bet Sarfate was just grumpy. He has done all that was asked of him. And he can see older guys doing bad at AAA, yet he is not promoted.
  22. DHonks, I cannot remember the exact words... just things like searching for an adjustment and leveling off and bat speed and even reading fan forums looking for the answers. I even read here he was talking about changing his stance every game. I kind of ignore all that talk because everyone does it and talks it. But it seems a huge conincidence how much he has improved. He surely did not suddenly learn how to hit. It is surely just some mechanical fix.
  23. Homer, I think you need to give credit where credit is due. Hart did not specifically say how he figured out he needed an adjustment. I am sure (I guess!) he did not read it here. But, in any case, we sure should be happy.
  24. This is great. It is like bar talk. We all know what guys are doing and we all are sure who should be bumped up and there is a future. By the way, in respect to Scoop (it was Scoop, wasnt it?), did you catch the bit about Hart talking about his slight elbow adjustment that is letting him come through the ball quicker and more level. He was upset he burned the first month, but says that hitch is gone and, in fact, it is easier to maintain this correct swing than the dud one. So he only sees he will improve.
  25. thanks h-fan, I thought I lost a year there re Corey's MVP. But it sounded better to write it that way. Good luck on your second half. I hope the errors are all bunched in those games where they dont count. But I sure wish our guys improved on D in their paths through the minors. I was always told 'you cant teach good hitting, it is a God given skill, but you can teach D'. If that were true, our guys should be improving. And it is so important. 15 hits extra in a year turns an average year batting into a good year. So, it should be just as good to AVOID 15 error or perhaps make 15 great extra plays on D. re Helena... I guess we can start projecting the Crew's lineup in 2010.
