  1. I hope Ned will let some other reliever pitch the 9th. 8 soft tosses by Wise will not make him unavail for tomorrow.
  2. Should we start to be worried why the Arizona Brewers get clobbered EVERY game. Do we have a talent black hole waiting to move up the organisational chain?
  3. Well, that kind of makes you feel more comfortable with the world. 3/4 of our future combine to end the threat.
  4. Can we begin the arm chair managing. Who should and who WILL replace Ben. I say Wise must come in, these are desperate times. I say Bottilico will come in, Ned is a share holder in some pharmacutical that markets 'prozac for fans'.
  5. I just noticed Russell is actually batting a respectible .269. So looking at his walks he has a .383 obp and slugging .523. Wow, he is over .900 OPS. Good job Mr Melvin (and Mr Branyan) -edit- and he is only 1 for 16 with 10 k's v lefties, so v righties, he is off the planet
  6. I am getting new, new found respsect for Bobby Cox. He actually manages a game. Davies was not on, so he is removed before too much damage. Ned leaves our guys in until they bleed to death. Here Bobby has done the best for his teams chance to win, and saved the youngster from an embarrassing outing. Learn, Ned, learn. You were out managed all over the field last night and I fear the same will happen again today.
  7. Geoff is like a secret weapon, but you never know when he will malfunction (or function, I should say). From last night he has completely reverted to the Evil Jenks. For one week anything in the zone was tatooed. Now he can only foul them off. For one week he actually did not swing at ankle and ear balls. Now he has started again that complete misunderstanding of what pitch it is and where it is located. So, as the secret weapon, he should be safely hidden in the lineup's 7 hole. Then when he functions again one day (you can tell in one day when he begins to function), you move him back up to the 5 hole. You have to admit, it would be much better (if you want to win a game) seeing Hall and Branyan bat before Geoff right now.
  8. It is amazing that so many of our games are so close and we do something stupidly different each night to shoot ourselves in the foot. We are like the Keystone Cops of baseball.
  9. Wow, Mike, I was expecting you to get your eyes scratched out for saying that. But you even got a couple of replies that discussed and extended your idea. In future, I will email you my posts, as you can put them up.
  10. Anders, thanks so much for the first hand report. It is so good to hear about individual plays that can give us an impression (good or bad) on guys. I am most interested in your comparisons between Hart and Cruz.
  11. I love this heavyweight Corey Hart v Nelson Cruz battle. Tonight, so far, Cruz is 3 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base and an uppercut of 1 rbi. Hart can only counter with 2 for 5 with two runs scored courtesy of his THREE stolen base jabs. Krynzel with a night off, Fielder 0 for 4 so far, but Helling/Adams nursing a 4 - 1 lead. What a good team that Nashville is. Lots of heart and fire and character and attitude and mental strenth.
  12. Hey Brett, do you think the Brewers lose MORE than they should talent-wise. Or better for me to ask: win LESS than their talent dictates they should? A more obvious question would be: do the Nats win MORE than their talent dictates? Note the Nats won another 1 runner today.
  13. give... an example of a) someone caring, and b) someone not caring. let me choose b) Since I can see nothing on TV, I will only refer an incident where we had a couple of terrible calls against us; apparently the second one was a blatant boo, boo by the 2nd base umpire and it cost us; the replay was for all to see and the mistake obvious Ned just sat in the dougout non-plussed by the entire situation; he did not care (or appeared to not care) that his team was unfairly dealt with It would be better for others here to come up with specific examples.
  14. This line of reasoning is just idiotic; you're delusional Since the above were not 'naughty, naughtied', can I use them in the future instead of the evil word 'teenager'. (Sorry, I could not resist) Stupid Brewers. If we were all in a pub, there would probably a big time brawl going on.
  15. Yuck. How do you know they don't care? Brett, to many an eye they LOOK like they dont care.
  16. Forgive me, but who are Gryboski, Boyer, Brower, Betemit, Francoeur, and Langerhans? I am sad.
  17. I have the feeling Cox is going to use all 25 guys and win a 1 run game. We will have battled, done a cool (silly) double switch for no reason, have our bullpen rested and 4 guys on the bench... ready to 'get em tomorrow'. Hats off to Cox's managing.
  18. Brian, I dont want to fight. I just want to ring Jenkins' neck. Brian, I usually dont even take notice of the names when people post arguments against me. So I cannot even tell you who dissented to my comment. But I am completely befuddled why someone can not look at the lineups and say 'oh, my, we are not the outshown'. I am befuddled, why a number of people will want to show how I am wrong and the Brewers are bad (or worse than Atlanta). And, Brian, you now play the stathead game as well. If I compare MLB stats to MLB stats, you say 'oh, but Joe Blow delved into AAA stats to counter your argument'. C'mon, Brian are you the teacher here and the pupils are trying to get good marks from you and you say 'good boy, Joe Blow, well done' and 'bad HOFFY'. Be careful Brian your outstanding job on this site does not go to your head. It would be shame for people to think the 'boys are back'. Onto the game, I sure hope these guys can steel themselves, but they sure are showing their old tendancies.
  19. Please Geoff, you can earn 10% of your yearly pay with just this at bat.
  20. that puts it at 4-3 with a push, plus pitching...i think pitching/bobby cox might push it towards the braves though I agree completely. I sure hope Ned is watching and learning. We can get some good out of the situation then. Already we can see Cox managing the game, from the bunts in the first to test Weeks D to the pitching changes. Please, Ned, learn.
  21. Hoffy, for someone who had a serious problem with anyone mentioning "age" before, this is a touch out of line. Dear Censor Police I really have no idea what you are talking about? Do you have some database stored on each poster? Would you care to enlighten me on my past 'error against the state'? So, along with swearwords, an example of illogical logic used by my teenage children is deemed offensive? Hmmmm, what is next? Dare I talk about Julio Franco? Sincerely The Sincerely Apologetic Offender
  22. WV it has been shown (not by me, but by Vroomos or somebody like him) that OPS best determines runs scored and runs scored determines win/loss records (of course, assuming pitching is similar) But this entire arguement stems from the fact that I innocently posted 'hey, our lineup is as good as Atlantas, even better'... and that drew a small wave a dissent; which is crazy, because if you look down the lineups we are evenly matched teams; it was just an observation But I am continually amazed how stat heads then must jump up and down and even argue against themselves. I am in the camp where there is indeed some mental side to this game. So, I am always interested in how the SAME stats can provide different outcomes. And I see the Brewers having decent talent - that stats show it, and they have poor outcomes. Hence I believe the Brewers are in a mental funk. But man oh man, try to say that here, and they are carving up your body for the vultures to feast on.
  23. And... as I predicted... we have the teenage / stathead argument as OPS matters to determine the underlying quality of a team EXCEPT WHEN I DO NOT AGREE WITH WHAT IT SHOWS So, in this case we will look at the only stat that backs up our pre-determined, bias that Atlanta has a better team... win/loss records But, tomorrow, when we want to explain why the Nats cannot win it all, we will ignore the win/loss record and focus on... whatever stat supports our pre-deterimined, bias that the Nats cant win Oh, the joy of having a discussion with stathead/teenagers
  24. I have no idea how to argue with statheads. They are like my teenage children. When you explain to them using their own logic they simpl say 'nah, that logic does not apply right now'. So for the stat heads and those who like to watch... OPS batting position by position for MLB events only (I was gonna use the Corey Hart joke, as well) 1- 796 to 678 Crew +118 2- 849 to 826 Crew +23 3- 830 to 851 Braves +21 4- 866 to 939 Braves +73 5- 754 to 835 Braves +81 6- 834 to 600 Crew +234 7- 754 to 730 Crew +24 8- 578 to n/a (less than 10 at bats for Francoeur) So, here is where the stat heads, who need to justify that the Braves are the better team, will trot out... well, what the heck will they trot out? Actually Atlanta has the 2nd best era (team) and the Crew used to be 2nd but has now dropped to 5th in the Nat.
