  1. That is the beauty of letting Krynzel have a go. The guy has proved he can lift his game at each level he ups to - just like Corey Hart. So, isnt it great he will start his learning curve in September. It is pretty interesting the last couple of starts by Hendrickson. It is a bit of proof you dont make a guy rot at AAA until his era is under 1. Why does Viz pitch with a 5 run lead? Isnt Viz the most used guy so far this year?
  2. "I was happy to see Kolb blow the save. We can actually afford to sign him now." I agree rl, if Sheets and Kolb blow really bad for the rest of the year, we may get our payroll below $20 mill. Actually, Sheets has at least one more option. I think we should send him back to AAA.
  3. "I think it's very sad that the Drews don't understand the value of time, however." true, true word Al. Maybe it was you or someone else with the same idea, but I nowr realise how stupid it is to delay entry onto the 'path to free agency'. These guys must be incredibly stupid on both ends. They can set themselves up for life NOW and they can get the pot of gold ASAP (when free agency hits). But they choose neither. How can someone like Boras convince their clients to be so incredibly stupid? Actually, can anyone give any examples of holdouts that ended up with nothing. I wonder if they sued their agent. Oh, I would like to see Boras sued for bad adivce. It would be great.
  4. I guess we can appreciate our normal pen now. It seems it is easy to find good relievers, but you can see how a couple of poor relievers (recently Hendrickson, Phelps) can really hurt you. I wish Ned would stop mucking around. We had a game to win and he wants to 'steel' a new guy. I wish he gave Hendrickson so much rope. Why cant you just use these new guys in non pressure situations. There is the odd game where we are behind by the 5th and 6th inning.
  5. I went to write a post on minor league board when we had guys 1st and 3rd 1 out. I checked back to see if somehow scored a run... and we scored FIVE. Wow. Obermeuller shows me he is just not there yet. Next year at Indy as a late developing starter will be good for him and Indy. I like that Branyan seems to be able to recognise strikes and balls (unlike Jenkins). Russ Ks swinging at strikes and he walks NOT swinging at balls... and every once in a while, when he connects... wow. He is a good ball player. The best quote I heard re Russ was from a manager of another team I think. He said if Russ got 500 at bats every year, he would hit 50 home runs each year. Heck, I really hope we have Russ around for a couple of years at least. He is only 28 now, and seems he has been around forever. I would be interested if anyone studies how high K sluggers 'age'. Mabye they are good until 35?
  6. The beauty of these threads is I can avoid the game, and read the thread and feel all the ups and downs in about 10 mins. It is great. So, thanks guys I felt the joy (Davis, Branyan) I felt the fall, the pain, the disappointment, the resignation... Then I swore at the kids, yelled at the wife, kicked the dog, and apologised... it all took about 15 minutes. What a time saver!
  7. You know we are looking like the number six draft pick for next year. It means if we sign a big free agent or two we will not have to give that pick up as it is in the first half.
  8. The sound of Wendy upping her pettty cash allocation for next year. Luis just cost himself 100k in arbitration. It is all coming together for Wendy. Sheets will finish the year 9-15. His arby numbers will drop from 6 million range to 3 million. Ching ching. Adams was probably due a small 'thank you' pay rise, but he gave up 4 runs yesterday. Ching ching. 50 grand saved. Kolb has stuggled in a couple of games lately. Not enough for Wendy, but Ching ching.... probably can save 500k with a bad game or two on top of the wee late struggles. Santos... was going for the 'thank you' pay rise, but Wendy keeps starting him in the daylight. Ching ching... 100k saved. Kinney picked up by KC. Ching Ching... 50 k saved. Wendy will be rolling in it next year.
  9. This is where our management will begin to see the self fulfilling prophesy. The average fan will see Durrington on third with nobody out. We butcher it and get no runs. The other team get a guy on third with no outs, and promply score him. The average fan will just go home and think 'I am not going to pay money to watch that crap. It is embarrassing to be a Brewer fan when our number two batter is on third. Then our 3-4-5 batters have about as much chance of scoring him as the Bee Gees.' The management should simply fold the franchise. They are not serious about selling. They are only stalling so they can all each have a few hundred grand salary a year. The commissioners office should look into this joke of a management.
  10. Clutch does not exist. I agree. But ANTI-CLUTCH does exist. I am going to start a new movement. It is called the NEW saberMATH. Anti-clutch will be one of the cornerstones.
  11. Crew SEVEN hits for 1 run. Other team SIX hits for 4 runs. We do look a little weak against a lefty. If we sit every guy who is left handed, we do lose a little juice from the lineup.
  12. Al is a wee bit abrasive, but to be honest, he has lots and lots of good, good ideas. The idea of replacement level players... buying them cheap is really good (except we dont want 25 of them at the same time!) The sample size, he really is right on that. The mantra that batting average is meaningless on its own... correct, Al.
  13. RoCo... "I hope when I grow up" Are you kidding me. Not only are my co-posters idiots, some of them are young. The only young people I want anything to do with are named Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Lopez, or Halle Berry.
  14. Al..."Allow me to say, if you took part in the above thread, I truly feel sorry for you." Darn, darn, darn. I almost did not participate at all. But I added one post when Kolb hit that guy. And now I am lumped together with all you idiots. My mother always told me to avoid bad company. I should have listened to her.
  15. I wonder if Kolb is hiding an injury. It does not make sense that he is suddenly wild. His last two or three outings he has been walking and hitting guys. It is not likely that he suddenly forgot how to pitch.
  16. rebmun, there are few interesting concepts in your lineup. First: center field will become a defensive PLUS for us with two guys playing there, I like that Next: Jenks playing second base will show him just what it is like on the other end when he is batting Finally: Helms at short is brilliant. He will have more time to make sideways motion before the ball is past him.
  17. Shampoo... "And for people wating for prospects to be the save all-is going to be more of the same. This organization just doesn't have the horses to compete on the major league level-- don't be fooled with all the prospect talk." What I dont understand is that the correct move financially, futurewise, TODAYwise, is to start bringing up the prospects. Hart and Krynzel and Hendrickson should be up tomorrow. Why does management bring up Obey, Durrington, Magruder, Leifer... It seems they want to bring up any old guy with no future with no stats OVER young guys with a future and good stats. Someone explain to me how OLD, no future, no stats is a preferrable to YOUNG, future and good stats.
  18. Wendy is happy, but we are gonna be sad. Sheets less money in arby. Kolb less money in arby.
  19. Doesnt the leadoff guy (1 spot) lead off more innings than any other? And since Overbay is the only guy who can bat, wherever you do put him will change the predicted outcome.
  20. Free Beer and VB (Victoria Bitter, much better than Fosters) on your next trip to Sydney for the closest Neddy quote following this game. Your can choose to predict the quote covering any topic Helms Sheets Burnett Weather Adams Grieve The ame Philosphy in general ...
  21. I suppose a 4-0 game with Ben going 8 innings would have been a wee bit boring. This game is exciting now. We have a real battle going on.
  22. Especially because of the age (but I have more teeth). Hey we have an election coming up down here and the question the media is asking all the old politians is 'did you ever smoke the stuff'. And all the pollies say 'yeah, of course, whatta you think'. Only one guy said 'I did not inhale'. Then the media started asking 'did you smoke it; did you inhale'. The pollies just roll their eyes and walk away with a big smile. Ben should go one more inning.
  23. Bill, Ben is our horse. And he stepped up big time that last inning. Let Ben make another statement in the next inning. Let him shame his mates. One more inning, then send Ben to the hotel early.
  24. a couple of infield singles and couple of seeing eye singles to the outfield.... equal 4 runs and no win This is Major League! Wendy has corrupted some of our players to throw the games... not to move the Brewers, but to lower how much money Ben will get in arby. If a guy is 9 - 14 on the year with a 2.25 era how much money will he get?
  25. do we actually have to put a player in every postion? maybe we can go with a 6 or 7 man lineup
