  1. I agree it's a rip off and you definitely do the wiser, smarter and more frugal thing. When I'm out with my friends though it's nice to not really care about things and just have a good time. It's not like I go to every game. And we buy cheap seats so we can....enhance, our game more. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. I usually get a brat and a bag of peanuts. Sometimes I get the peanuts off the guys on Bluemound. It's like popcorn at a movie, I know it's a rip off but I have to get it. I just can't help it. I also usually buy 3-4 tall beers. So a day at the park is at least $30.00 + a ticket. But it's entertainment.
  3. They do have a veggie sausage. It's only served in one place though. You have to go to "Gorman's Grill" in the right field bleachers to get one. I had a GF that was a vegetarian and we would always have to take the walk over there to get one.
  4. I'll admit to being the poop in the punchbowl here, but I think there's literally no way you could convince me that it's even in the same league as The Show. I'm on my second year with the franchise, and they managed to iron out nearly every gripe I had with the game. The gameplay is freakin' phenomenal, and the graphics are good, too. I just wish I could afford the $600 for a PS3, so I could play it at its top form (at least graphically - haven't heard of its gameplay on PS3 yet) Haven't played it. Heard it was decent. Maybe I'll have a look. I still play MVP 2005 on my PC. Updating rosters is a snap. I don't play many console games to be honest. I prefer my PC for gaming things.
  5. We're looking good. Hitting the ball well and pitching well. That usually adds up to success. Tomorrow is another game and against a great pitcher. Good luck with that one! We have nothing to lose tomorrow. Go in and try and play a good game. But man, if we start to get on a roll here and take out the Giants and really lay it on the Cubs, that would be cool.
  6. I wasn't watching on TV but I was listening on the radio to that one. I remember Uecker really getting a kick out of it. It was a day game I believe. Man, we lost a lot of games that year. I didn't watch many but I did listen to a lot at a job I had at the time and I just remember losing like every time.
  7. The PC version is really the best here. The fact that it's so easy to get updated rosters with accurate stats/abilities, etc make it the best. You never have to buy another baseball game again....until a better one comes out.
  8. From Rob Neyer's chat today: Doug (NY): Gaylord Perry had 40 in 1972 SportsNation Rob Neyer: 40 decisions in 40 starts, you mean? Wow .... What? There's more? Andrew (NJ): Update on Perry - it was 1972, and he got decisions in his first 11 starts of 1973 and last three of 1971, so that's 54 in a row. SportsNation Rob Neyer: Thanks.
  9. Gaylord Perry with around 46 I believe.
  10. A lot of people still play this on their PC's and their are sites dedicated to updated rosters. It is widely acclaimed to be the best modern baseball game to date.
  11. Yeah Bill hasn't been producing lately. I'm guessing he's still uncomfortable in his position and unhealthy.....wait, he rules!
  12. Because he pitched 3 innings in a 9-0 game. Matt Wise had one similar this year.
  13. My heart is breaking more and more.
  14. Then there's only one rational conclusion: Chris Capuano isn't MLB caliber. Assuming MLB pitchers have little power over BAbip, we can assume Cappy isn't a MLB pitcher. Or he's injured. Or he's the unluckiest guy on Earth. His BAbip has been amazingly high lately. Can that really be bad luck? Can you be that unlucky?
  15. Batting order doesn't matter much in the end in terms of scoring runs. Obviously batting backwards is going to hurt you but swapping out Fielder and Braun at 3 and 4 shouldn't matter much. It's stupid IMO because it was working the other way around. Why mess with things that are working?
  16. We're cooked. The season is essentially done.
  17. BAbip is a very real statistic that has been backed up through plenty of regression analysis and such so it's worth believing in. The one caveat in it is when a pitcher just loses it, his BAbip should rise because he's become a meatball pitcher. Especially when a SLG% is rising with it. I love stats as much as anyone but anecdotal evidence is valuable as well. He was definitely a bit lucky in the past (remember all the run support he got? That might take something out of the opposing offense) but his number also show he's not pitching when guys are on base or when he's behind in the count. What I'm saying is he's not just giving up a few more bloop single or infield hits. He's positively getting rocked hard. And when that happens (guys are driving the ball hard) your BAbip will go up. Which means he's probably out of his league right now and simply not competitive at the MLB level. this of course is based entirely on this years stats, a small sample, but they're the most relevant to Cappy's struggles this year. I mean, his 3-0 and 3-1 counts show this easily enough. He has walked every guy that was 3-0 on him. He knows he can't make the pitch. Last year OPS against him was 2.0 in those situations. So when he gets 3-1 (presumable the fourth pitch was a ball) and he knows he has to throw a strike or at least challenge the batter, he's giving up an OPS of 1.5. So it's a combination of Cappuano being a bit lucky in the past and simply not being able to make pitches presently. I see no reason why Cappy will ever be an above average starter in MLB for any reasonable period of time. Anyone yahoo on the radio who claimed he should be the "ace" was crazy from the beginning and should never be trusted again.
  18. I don't have access to ISO but measuring the SLG% with BAbip shows a correlation. In short, as his BAbip rises so does his SLG% against. Assume a bit less because I don't think BAbip counts HR's and SLG& does...
  19. The problem with Capuano this year is he doesn't get guys out when he's even or behind in the count or when they're on base. OPS's against him are just terrible when he doesn't throw strikes. Get this, he has walked every single batter he has gotten a 3-0 count on this year. Every single one.1-0 and 2-0 counts give OPS's about 1.0. His first pitch OPS is 1.0. So, on 0-0, 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0 a guy is either getting on base via walk or driving the ball. He doesn't do anything to a guy the second he gets behind and sometimes when even. Even a 3-1 count gives a 1.5 OPS! He does fine when he gets a guy 0-1 or 0-2, but almost every pitcher does. But you're not going to get a lot of guys there. And since he has to work to get to 0-1 (remember guys are crushing him at 0-0 in the first place) it's even more rare. With no outs his BABIP is .366. That can't all be luck, can it? Maybe he's throwing meatballs down there. With 1 outs he's right on average, a .290. With 2 outs though he falls to .342! Probably because there are more likely to be base runners at this time? As he faces batters more his BABIP goes up and up and up. From .317 to .323 to .375! Consider the defense is responsible for it being around .310. You have to assume the defense is a constant and the fact it rises to .375 means he's getting rocked hard the third time through. This makes sense because from pitches 75+ he gets rocked. The SLG% rises with the BAbip. Although typical for most players, his is really, really bad.. What does this mean? His BAbip is a function of bad defense but also the fact that he gets balls driven really hard. Why so bad? Because he can't pitch when he gets behind in counts or when he gets a couple guys on base. This is a deadly cocktail. He falls behind in a count and guys get on. then it doesn't matter if he falls behind because he doesn't pitch well and guys get hits. He simply can't afford to fall behind in a count almost ever. He needs his control to be perfect because it's obvious his power isn't. So when his command is off he's throwing meatballs over the plate these guys are rocking. Lots of talk about luck and Cappy in this thread so far. The only luck I see is he's throwing the dice trying to get lucky with meatball pitches and guys are rocking him. Endeer is mainly right. Cappy wasn't too different in the past. Before he did better with men on base. But his OPS's after pitch counts and situations were about the same (a little worse this year). He just got pretty lucky before. Although 2 years ago he was a stud when guys were on base and that's what saved him.
  20. Nice. I laughed a couple times off that one. Well done.
  21. Well, since they were wrong before....
  22. That breaks my heart. But I also like to believe that the latest stretch is a small sample too and that they can only get better. This team has been so streaky this year it's hard to really put a finger on it...
  23. That's what I'm scared of. That we're actually falling back down to Earth really fast and really hard. The baseball math Gods let us have our fun and now are taking it out on us bad by making things regress and average out in a big way by creating 8 runs on average for the other teams per game. The optimist in me wants to say we're gonna start blowing other teams out. But are we? Maybe this really was just a ~.500 team all along.
  24. We've been so bad lately, especially in August. We're giving up 8 runs a game over our last 14 games! We're hitting poorly and pitching poorly. Nearly every single pitcher has been simply terrible the last month to month and a half. We're playing well below what could be expected from any MLB team. We always talk about regression to the mean with players and teams and such. But, isn't it just as reasonable to talk about progression to the mean? When a team has been this bad, and we've been beyond bad, you have to expect things to average out by getting better. This team isn't this bad. No team is. But this team has been competitive nearly all year long and you have to believe that things will get better in a big way. Are we simply regressing to this team ability, a sub .500 team? Or is all this losing (and losing BIG) setting up a huge run to finish the season by bringing our numbers back in line with the talent of this team?
