  1. ***the only problem is that all 60 innings go to 3 or 4 of the 8 bullpen ams **** You can't be serious. I guess I will break it down for you, but I'm sure I'll never hear from you again to follow up so it's kind of pointless. Or else you will come back and say "oh it just seems like it." That's my favorite one. Torres: 14.1(who has led league in both bullpen appearances and innings many times in his career) Riske: 10.1 Mota: 10 Gagne: 8.2 McClung: 7.2 Shouse: 7.2 Turnbow: 4.2 Stetter: 3.0 So if you want to use 3 of the bullpen arms as your premise then they are at 34.2 out of the 60. If you want to use 4 of the bullpen arms as your premise then they are at 43.1 out of the 60. I don't know that you could have scripted the first 20 games any better for the bullpen in terms of: 1. They have pitched the 2nd fewest innings in the league as a whole 2. They have been able to balance out the number of innings so nobody is far and away pitching more than anyone else
  2. I came across an interesting stat while trying to sort to see where the Brewers bullpen ERA ranked in the NL. While the bullpen ERA (at 4.10) ranks 10th out of 16, the Brewers bullpen is 10th out of 16 teams in innings pitched (66.1). 10th out of 16 with 6 extra inning games. That leads me to believe the starters are doing a much better job than people around here are giving them credit for. By comparison, the Pirates bullpen has already logged 78.2 innings, while the Cubs (surprisingly to me) have already logged 76.1. Also, noticed they lead the NL in wins (6-2) and 2nd in saves with 8. ****EDIT!! Amazingly with yesterday's 7 innings of work, the Brewers jumped from 15th to 10th. While it's not anything to be worried about now, it is an obvious sign that continuing to get 5 IP out of our SP and continuing to go extra innings will eventually wear the bullpen down, no matter how well they are used. The Brewers now have 66.1 innings pitched out of their bullpen. I might continue to update this as the season goes along, just because it is interesting to me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. What a great encouraging win!!! It was good to see the offense break out. It was good to see Gagne pitch well. It was good to battle back after Weeks mistake in the 9th. What a great day to be a Brewer! 12-8 and Cameron on the way plus Sheets and Yo together in the rotation starting next Monday.
  4. It's blanket statements like these that really bother me. I haven't said anything through this whole thread, but Riske has appeared in games on: May 31, April 2, April 5, April 9, April 11, April 15, April 16, and April 19. So not only has he NEVER gone back-to-back-to back, but he's only gone back-to-back ONE stinkin' time. Dont say "oh it just seems like he has" cuz that's a weak excuse.
  5. Hey everyone! I over-reacted! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm over it. I get the joke. My bad. Here's to a big win today! GO CREW!
  6. I'd agree with that if Woogie wasn't always the ring-leader of the term "yosted" every time we get beat.
  7. wouldn't this have been a good opportunity to shut up Turnbow and his agent? is he still alive or is he already in Detroit? Yeah. I'd say turnbow's probably gotta be fresh. He hasn't pitched in forever And is Turnbow still alive, or? If there not going to use Turnbow why is he on this team? That's the problem with all you Yost haters....you always "misremember", in the words of Roger Clemens.
  8. Well definitely taking this pathetic effort of an IGT off today. I come here to see who is pitching, check out their stats, and get an unbiased introduction to today's game. The jabs at Ned Yost have gotten to the point of embarassing. It really is. It's pathetic. It's a joke. It's stupid. It's dumb. Unless you think it was Ned Yost that Corey Hart dropped 2 routine pop-ups that Little Leaguers can catch, then he had nothing to do with the result last night. Sunday afternoon, people were in arms on this very site because Yost should have gone with Turnbow instead of Gagne. He goes with Turnbow last night and is crucified because he gave up back to back doubles. I actually thought TBow pitched well last night. He groofed that first fastball that Braun should have cut off and held him to a single. I thought it was encouraging that he worked out of a situation where guys were on base and he has typically imploded in those situations. Anyways..rant over....but i'm taking this thread off today. I do appreciate the work that Woogie puts in, but not when he turns them into a chance to take shots at the manager. Obviously being a coach, I have a different perspective than people who have never coached and often times never played in their life. They don't get it.
  9. Wow. Corey Hart has literally cost them all 3 runs tonight with his pisspoor defense. great job by the bullpen to minimize the damage.
  10. While I typically agree with a lot of what you say, endaround.... J.J. has really heated up since being moved to the #2 spot. He's been seeing strikes and hit very well on the road trip, including his first HR. I hardly would call that a glaring mistake, especially given the absence of Cameron.
  11. I stand corrected. I went through game logs of Rivera, Smoltz, Putz and stopped there because I just dont have time, but NONE of them have ever pitched 4 consecutive days. Rivera and Smoltz pitched 3 straight days virtually every month, but never a 4th. Maybe there is some validity to the crowd that is saying Gagne shouldn't have been used yesterday. I didn't have a problem with it. And still don't. But definitely can see your side of it now. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!!
  12. I don't blame Yost for bringing in his closer with a 3-1 lead. Yes it was the 4th day in a row, but closers pitch 4, 5, even 6 days in a row ALL THE TIME. Cordero pitched 4 days in a row 3times last year. Turnbow pitched 4 days in a row 2 times the year before. It was the right choice to bring him in to get the bottom 3 guys in the order. I don't blame Gagne. After the HR to Fukodome on opening day he retired 15 of his next 16 hitters (aside from the picnic area HR). He hung a changeup against Encarnacion after falling behind in the count and then Bako golfed a low inside pitch out. Big deal. The one thing I wish Ned would have done was leave Gagne in to finish the inning. The previous 2 times he blew leads, he buckled down and get them to the 10th inning. I think he would have done the same thing yesterday and gotten them to the 11th. But back to the original point, this doesn't mean I don't trust Gagne to close games and it certainly isn't Ned's fault for bringing him in. It's jus something that happens over the course of a long season.
  13. I could not disagree more. He pitched his $10 million closer. In a 3-1 game. With the bottom of the order up. It was probably the easiest decision that he will make all year. If there is a stretch in May or June where Gagne has saved 3 straight games and we are in the same situation for game 4, I would certainly hope Ned won't hesitate to trot Gagne back out there. He's a proven closer being paid to close games for us. This was the easiest decision of the year. There was no debate.
  14. Bringing in Gagne was an easy decision. Closers throw 3, 4, 5, even 6 days in a row all the time. When the Brewers have a lead in the 9th inning or behind Gagne is the guy and should be the guy. That shouldn't change. As for jumping all over Gagne. Between Fukodome's HR and the 2 HR's today, Gagne has given up a total of TWO BASERUNNERS (one was the solo HR to Patterson in Milwaukee) over 6 outings. Get off his back. He'll be fine.
  15. WOO HOO!!!!!!!! C'mon Rickie or JJ! I don't care who http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. You worded it WAY better than I've been trying to word it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I do understand that April games count the same as September games, but if you haven't done it from April-August (my logic) then you are probably able to get away with it in September.
  17. Fair question. I guess if it were September. Yes. Or playoff baseball, ABSOLUTELY. But in April, on back to back days, I just think doing that every time the situation arises will burn out your closer. (unless you plan on your team being bad and not having a whole lot of save situations). Mabe this is bad logic. I don't know. I'm just thinking long-term. I have NO problem with the premise of bringing him in being the "right" move. I just feel like it runs the risk of burning him out.
  18. No I was being serious just because there are enough save situations over the course of a season. If you pitch your closer in "non-save" situations too you are going to burn them out. Obviously I'd like having Cordero go against Braun, Fielder, Hart, but I just think that closers are geared to close and if you pitch them in tie games also, you will wear them out. I could be wrong on this, but just my opinion.
  19. I just don't believe in bringing in your closer in a tie game. Sometimes at home it's OK. But never on the road.
  20. How stupid is Dusty Baker to bring in Cordero in another non-save situation. Closers are geared for saves. A lot of them struggle in tied game situations. I'm glad Yost doesn't do this very often.
  21. You're right. He never should have thrown 3 balls to Griffey. What a terrible performance. It's shocking how this team keeps finding ways to win despite the ineptitude of their manager. Shocking, really.
  22. If that's true, my fault. Brian Anderson misspoke earlier in the game then as he said 112. Thanks for the correction. Either way, it was the correct decision to let him pitch the 7th against the bottom of the order. He was dealing today!
  23. Hell of an outing Yo!! Great job! NOW go put your coat on and dry off. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Let's get him a run for the win.
  24. He just threw 112 pitchess 5 days ago in his last rehab start. He should be able to throw 120 without any problem. Good decision to send him out to face the bottom of the order.
  25. Pitchers are built to pitch between 100-120 pitches every 5th day. You can disagree with it, but don't single out Yost. Other managers are doing it with young pitchers with injury pasts all over the place. Felix Hernandez first 4 starts: 97,97, 117, 115 Adam Wainwright first 3 starts: 107, 93, 115 Aaron Harang first 4 starts: 99, 108, 99, 110 Carlos Zambrano first 4 starts: 89, 106, 107, 102 Cole Hamels first 4 starts: 103, 103, 111, 102 Johan Santana first 4 starts: 100, 91, 113, 105 Brandon Webb first 4 starts: 90, 98, 104, 104 Jake Peavy first 4 starts: 107, 116, 101, 113 Ben Sheets first 4 starts: 99, 109, 116, 60* Daisuke Matsuzake first 4 starts: 96,96, 108, 117, 101
